its so funny growing up watching psych and not a lot of 80s movies because I'll finally watch something famous like Jaws and just nod along to the jokes going "mmhm. just like in psych. yes I get it now."

ok and the flip side of this is I'm finally watching Lars and The Real Girl and I'm like "wow, why did I think this movie was about a dating show? where did that idea come from?" and it's just psych. I assumed the episode Shawn and the Real Girl was riffing off of the movie's plot, but no just the title.

Also loved that it actually is Woke Odyssey. Not in a "we cast black and trans actors" way but in a "this is a movie about man's hubris, the disregard for and destruction of social contracts, the disdain with which we treat the living and the dead, the violence we wage against each other, the way we become enraptured with 'great' instead of 'right,' and the way all of that degrades the soul of man" way

I’m so glad they made Gus smart. I’m so glad they made Gus a teammate that speaks his mind and rolls his eyes at the “wacky but cool and always right” protagonist. I’m so glad that he’s a real person who has a life and a job and his own skillsets that rival yet complement Shawn’s. Shawn is fun and makes sure he’s the focal point of the show but I really think the show would be empty without Gus.

If Psych only followed Shawn I’m convinced I would find him irritating and, at times, unwatchable. But there’s something about Gus being there and being exasperated and yet backing Shawn up and correcting him when he’s wrong and Shawn actually listening that makes them. the best duo.

One of my (numerous) favorite Psych gags is when every character except Shawn is off participating in different unhinged behaviors and Shawn's just like "????????? Is ANYONE going to help me solve this case. What is going on. Why are you like this."
