Artist of the Year: Jorge Elbrecht
Obsessive Rant. If you know me very well, you know I go through musical obsessions. My music deep dive of 2020 has definitely been the work of artist/producer/mixer, Jorge Elbrecht. Over the last decade, Elbrect has likely been the man behind the console of many of your favorite albums. He was there mixing, producing, and often playing on albums by bands like Chairlift, Ice Choir, Au Revoir Simone, Haunted Hearts, No Joy, Tamaryn, Wild Nothing, and Japanese Breakfast to name a few.
Somehow, besides being the "5th member" for many of these acts, Elbrecht has managed to flex his own unique pop stylings across several genres and several bands. From mysterious beginnings as the leader of art collective/rock band, Lansing-Dreiden, to the more traditional guitar pop gems of Violens, Elbrecht spent much of the 2010's in the NYC indie music scene. Since then, he has focused on his solo career through a few different projects; his dark 80s synth based work as Gloss Coma, his prog-metal work as Coral Cross, and his 60s tinged psych-pop works as Presentable Corpse. It's a lot, I know, but trust me, you will find something you like in this amazing body of work.
