As I move in to the new year, and my spring semester in college, I want to be more mindful of what I spend my time and energy on. I put together this vision board for 2026 to help me understand what I want my future to look and feel like. My biggest goal is to tattoo skin this year, and possibly start an apprenticeship. I want to consume more thoughtful media and surround myself with likeminded people.

This movie was something else for me. My favorite movie released since Nosferatu (2024). I was already a fan of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and was familiar with Guillermo Del Toro's work. What I admired so much about this movie was Del Toro's ability to capture the loneliness and isolation of neglect, abuse (especially in young childhood), and the trauma that is faced afterwards. The moment that Frankenstein's monster was created, he was outcast from the world. Victor disregarded him, and all he knew was isolation and pain, yet he interpreted this as "love" from Victor, in the same way that Victor only knew love from his father in the books. I thought it was an interesting and purposeful choice by Del Toro to make Victor's father equally as abusive in the film adaptation, as in the books both Victor, and Victors father, are significantly less hateful. Del Toro played on this adaptation so well while keeping Mary Shelley's story and purpose prevalent. Elizabeth's role in the film was as a maternal, motherly figure and I believed that she captured that perfectly. I am a big fan of Mia Goth's past films and I think shes an amazing actor. Her depiction of Elizabeth as a delicate, and soft character paralleled that of the butterfly scene in which Victor tried to confess his love to her. She felt trapped and Frankenstein's monster understood this, because all he ever knew was pain and being trapped as well. Also extremely honorable mention to the memento mori references, specifically referencing artwork from the 17th century. I saw a video about how Frankensteins monster is the only exemption from memento mori -- "remember you must die" -- and all that he wishes for is to be one with the fruit. To be reminded that he too will rot. Bring back gothic horror!
