It has been a week with my big move. Oh the stresses of moving... If it was a local move, it’s not that bad. But, across the state!? yeah.
Getting settled in, my cat and I are content. I believe that God will do great things in my life. After 3 years of living alone (with my cat), we are adjusting to having roommates.. My parents, my sister, her baby and husband.. But hey, more food in the house is a plus! That food wheel can do so much.. (If you’re single)
A new chapter requires you to Burn The Ships and Your Plows
A recent message that I spoke on was about looking to the new horizon.
There was an explorer with a bunch of men and ships. They were to explore the plains and the mountains. When they landed, He called all of his men to shore, “We will March forward to the new horizon.”
But, as he spoke about what he wanted to do, no one wanted to follow him. Remember this is ships from the 17th century so a bit of history for ya..
They were comfortable with their sweaty beds that stunk of drunkenness and the confines with the ship, that they didn’t want to go anywhere else.
Again he had all of his men on the shore, but this time, he had his generals burn the ships.
“We all will not turn back, we will move forward to the future, a new horizon. A new foundation.”
In 1st Kings, we can read up on Elisha’s blessing from when Elijah put the cloak on him. The oxen were killed and served and the plows were burned.. why there was no where to turn to.
When we burn our ships like the explorer, or burn our plows, we have the ability to set our sights on a new horizon or a new foundation. We are committed.
Mine was to move forward into A new way of life.
Yes, applying for jobs... During this corona stuff, it makes things harder to deal with.
One of my friends, who taught me how to ground yourself said take your five senses:
What are 5 things you can see? Look for small details such as a pattern on the ceiling, the way light reflects off a surface, or an object you never noticed.
What are 4 things you can feel? Notice the sensation of clothing on your body, the sun on your skin, or the feeling of the chair you are sitting in. Pick up an object and examine its weight, texture, and other physical qualities.
What are 3 things you can hear? Pay special attention to the sounds your mind has tuned out, such as a ticking clock, distant traffic, or trees blowing in the wind.
What are 2 things you can smell? Try to notice smells in the air around you, like an air freshener or freshly mowed grass. You may also look around for something that has a scent, such as a flower or an unlit candle.
What is 1 thing you can taste? Carry gum, candy, or small snacks for this step. Pop one in your mouth and focus your attention closely on the flavors.
This helps when you are going through a tough time and feel anxious. Yes we should pray, but is that your first reaction? I’ll bet your first reaction is to breathe in and out a few times to get your bearings..
But hey, we all know that God is faithful, wise, and he provides!
I can ramble on.. So, I will try to make a weekly Blog for anyone that reads these posts.
