really sucks to see people, especially americans, using this as an excuse to be acting smug like "see? fuck irish people" like this is a fucking gotcha???? like that is any kind of solidarity, like there is any real satisfaction involved when people are having their entire livelihoods destroyed.

demanding performative, ego assuaging shows of solidarity from the Black people actively being brutalized by people you share an identity with is genuinely out of touch, self centered, & callous.

& this wouldn’t feel so much like a gotcha if white Irish and Irish Americans weren’t so committed to distancing themselves from their overall collective commitment to maintaining white hegemony (here in the US or there in Ireland) by citing pasts as indentured servants, English occupation, famine & a split of the “real GOOD Irish” vs every “bad fake Irish” white person. Ignoring that their histories are concurrent with Irish American people, were part of the chattel slave owning class while being discriminated against, were & are a part of the genesis of slave catching police forces, & participants in multiple pogroms against immigrants of color in Ireland of the years.

That need for psychological distance is useless to the people currently suffering.

Small Eridian equivalent of a sigh. “No. Not needed for life. In fact Grace will die if he falls in water and does not get out.”

“Tell him we give him water in containers that won't kill him. Lots lots lots of water on Erid for Grace to drink.”

“No. Grace say he want water on ground. Also want it with excess sodium chloride compound so it will be unhealthy for drink.”

To celebrate Erid getting their sun back on track, Grace asks for some alcohol. There's a small amount left from the Hail Mary and Rocky offers to take it to the science Eridians to see if they can synthesise more.

“Grace want this liquid for celebration.”

“Of course.” They scan it. “You have wrong liquid. This contain compounds which are poisonous for humans.”

“Yes yes yes. Grace say humans like feeling of being slightly poisoned.”
