It’s my personal head-canon that Stiles remembers what Derek’s stubble felt like under his fingers for months. And he keeps flashing back to it whenever Derek’s around. Whenever Derek makes a sly comment or tries to be intimidating, all Stiles can think is, “I’ve seen you vulnerable,” and “I’ve held your face in my hands.” And how crazy it is to think of Derek as less than what he pretends to be, to think of him as fragile or breakable when his face is as hard as iron. And sometimes Stiles itches to touch him again—to trail his fingers against the back of Derek’s neck as he passes by or to wrap his fingers around his wrist and feel the blood pumping beneath—just to remind himself exactly how human Derek can be, even if he doesn’t remember it, himself.
