fic: decadent stress chamber pairing: hollanov words: 48k (complete) tags: frat au excerpt:
From the vantage of halfway up the stairs, the bodied sea almost makes sense, has a certain current to it. Parting and cresting, surging, slowing down. There’s a guy right in the middle defining the tide. He’s not huge huge—he’s like, Shane huge. Just noticeable. Anything so sturdy in the middle of the ocean would be. “Who’s that?” Shane asks, and regrets it.
chapter 8
Rozanov blinks. “It’s Khishchnik.” “Keeshnook,” Shane repeats. He shakes his head, slows it down. “Khishchnik.” “Kheeschnik.” “Better.” Every tendon in Rozanov’s face is taut. His face is red in the same shade of brimming need Shane's entire body is tangled with, wound around and gripping each individual rib. He takes a step forward and then another. Tight, tighter. “And, Ilya, also. Il-ya.” Shane swallows. “Ilya.” Ilya nods. No more wire; only glow left inside Shane’s chest.
45 & 39 !
45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic? amazingly getting to the point, which i still feel like six words too many in any given sentence from! but that is my whole goal with writing, not to write Well but to have the least impeded path between what i say and what i mean. like here is a good example. from the first? thing i wrote in 2024:
It’s like being cracked open, laid plain, the humid jewels of a bitten orange slice, he feels like a half-ravaged meal, ruined early
there is way too much going on here. i would now write it:
He is a bitten ripe slice, ruined early. Humid and wet and cracked right open.
which is also crazy and i would edit it down to:
He is a ripe mouthful, rind pried open.
bc u can see i love a phrase like ruined early. i just love it. but i'm confusing what i would love to scrunch into a knuckle tat for a necessary descriptor. if i am committing to fruit (and i almost always am) especially in metaphor for asshole this doesn't actually tell me anything about either the fruit or the asshole.
also lately i've been really really trying to not use a comma to separate what are basically same thesaurus terms. so ripe and humid and wet all accomplish too close to the same thing. i don't need jewels of an orange slice, i don't even need slice if i have ripe and rind. i like bitten but i don't really like how it sounds with ripe slice, and using mouthful instead means i get to allude to the indulgence of taste. if i can i will always choose more sensory, esp bc here the resonant soreness of bitten comes across just fine if i fit in pried since they have equal weights of ache to me
39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who? i don't know about process because i don't think i've ever tried anything different processwise except once to thoroughly outline and i hated that for general inspiration, i think hollycomb still does my favorite job of getting across a full brimming character with the plainest, fewest words. aspirationally i would love to use less words. also i think eleadore does my favorite close third person pov thing of asking a question when the character either can't or doesn't want to believe what's right in front of them. bc i love deep internal and i love hope or dread breaching the narrative in a way that isn't just like 'he felt hopeful' or 'he felt dread'.
the first thing u need to understand about athletes is that they are cringe losers bc they skipped school in hopes of never having to work a real job. the second thing you need to understand abt athletes is that they are first and foremost workers whose years of lucrative labour are capped by the very real limit that the strain of that selfsame work puts on their bodies which means they retire at an age before most people's careers even really take off and are expected to get by for the rest of their lives on the money they earned those few years. the third thing you need to understand is that they want to fuck their coworker.
You should be starting a recipe book. I don't give a shit if you're only 20-years-old. The modern web is rotting away bit by bit before our very eyes. You have no idea when that indie mom blog is going down or when Pinterest will remove that recipe. Copy it down in a notebook, physically or digitally. Save it somewhere only you can remove it. Trust me, looking for a recipe only to find out it's been wiped off the internet is so fucking sad. I've learned my lesson one too many times.
happy disability pride month to mean cripples, nasty addicts, people with down syndrome who arent nice and talk constant shit, wheelchair users that WILL run you over, autists that dont care and arent about to pretend to, people who lie to their psychiatrists, people that sit on the floor in public places with no benches, amputees that lie profusely about "what happened"; to the "noncompliant", the "drug seeking", the "mean", the "difficult" and the "undeserving", and so on and so forth, i love us all and we deserve the world actually mwah mwah
There was a massive shift in how our culture understood morality when, after World War II, the general public realized “just following orders” was not an excuse for crimes against humanity. Now we need another moral shift in which we decide, as a culture, that “for the benefit of the stockholders” is not an excuse for anything.
We kind of need to relearn the “just following orders” part again
WIP Week
My newest WIP
It's A Nice Man in Montreal . Obvi. I have a few other things percolating, but none of them have words attached quite yet.
Justin laughs about it when Shane tells him about the guest room idea. and Shane almost walks it back, but then he says, "No, I'm flattered. Fucked you so good you couldn't stay awake. A new personal best. The rest of us use a sex towel, but I'm down for your idea. How many beds do you have? Should we try them all?" Shane has four beds and they're definitely going to try them all.
This is just a small amount of chapter 4. Because there's only a small amount of Chapter 4 in existence so far.
I haven't written on this one that much this week because of personal life bullshit, but it's still on my mind and it will be happening. SO THERE. Anyway I wrote approximately 56 words on this today and that's not nothing!
Look at this!!!!! This lego ideas entry is titled "Summer at the Cottage" and it doesn't mention heated Rivalry, but this is unquestionably the Heated Rivalry house. Lego doesn't want to co-brand with Heated Rivalry as an IP (probably because of their somewhat inconsistently applied brand standards, which exclude sexy stuff), but this is still a super queer build, and if the HR fandom can get it to 10,000 votes, Lego might make it and then, maybe, we can all go to the cottage.
(And someone, somewhere will DEFINITELY make a Shane and Ilya to buy from them -- I'm looking at you Citizen Brick)

I cannot stress how important it is for the radical left to develop an actual array of media outlets. A huge part of the rise of the alt-right was that they developed a compelling online presence with no leftist media to counter it. Not to mention we will never grow significantly ourselves without a modern presence that reaches out to people

Look! It’s a new banner! Thank you to @blackberrysummerblog for the tag. I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to get more Crucible Marriage AU!
I got absolutely no drawing done this week because the Cirque AU has me in a chokehold. I decided to ride out this wave of hyper fixation for as long as it lasts.
I've been having so much fun doing various deep dives in different aspects of Cirque du Soleil. We're talking AMAs, a day in the life videos, and any and all manner of behind the scenes videos. The Little Purples have been subjected to endless hours of my Cirque du Soleil playlist in the car.
I'm exceedingly amused by this note I left myself:
As if I'm not the one writing it. In truth, despite my outline, none of this went the way I thought it would.
Here's a bit of tipsy Baz POV for your Sunday:
I wish I could always be here. In this pub, sitting a booth and pressed up against Snow. He’s so warm and solid. He must be nice to wake up to on a rest day or any day, really. I bet he wouldn’t even fight me when I steal the covers. Perhaps, I may have had too much to drink.
Our height difference isn’t quite as pronounced when we’re sitting and his broad shoulders are so inviting. He’s so captivated by the American’s story, I wonder if he’d notice my head leaning on them. The perfect crime.
Baz's drunk inner monologue is very much my own drunk inner monologue.
I hope you all have a lovely Sunday! Here are some hugs and high fives:
