you know whats fucked up? sharpay evans isnt even popular or well liked in the school, shes just in the musicals. like yeah she's rich and in every show but she is profoundly alone, all she has is ryan and his whole character arc is about developing his own selfhood and individuality. alone and trapped in her gilded cage of wealth and social status, how lonely of an existence it is to be sharpay evans.

I think the fact that she's a twin showcases how much she brings this upon herself. She and Ryan are both rich theater kids that love the attention of being onstage, but Sharpay has decided that she's entitled to be onstage and popular and all these other things, and she will do everything she can to manipulate her way to the top. By the end of the first movie, Ryan has happily accepted that he doesn't need to be the lead focus of everything, and he eventually becomes friends with the whole gang because he's open and kind to them. I love the juxtaposition of the two of them.
