muse of doom
The muse of doom is like a fatal error in the medium, in the entire game itself. The muse’s presence is a potent, viscous disease, yet sburb doesn’t exactly have antibodies that will actively seek the muse out, other than underlings and such.
The must of doom steadily corrupts the game and causes it to break. This results in a plethora of strange occurrences. This ranges from: Distorted textures, glitched enemy models, invisible walls, walls that are actually allow passage. insane loot tables, varying enemy strength…well, i could go on for ages here, but the longer the must plays, the weirder the game gets. There is no literal doom approaching, but rather, the game’s increasingly stability causes it to be very, very dangerous.
However, ultimately, the muse of doom’s presence also ensures that the game -will- be completed, and that the new resulting universe will be made, they effectively seal the fate of the session. Whatever happens to the players during the game, and after their success, however, is anyone’s guess. Anything can happen.
Theory: for every muse role assigned, a lord of the opposing aspect is also assigned. Not necessarily in the same game session; but somewhere. Somewhere. Somewhere there is a lord of hope ascending to a godhood beyond the goodhood SBURB typically bestows upon the cleverly deceased. Maybe they’ve decided the game is fundamentally unjust, and have elected to re-invent the entire concept of universe-creation-via-meteoric-death-and-coming-of-age from the bottom up. Their game is just as unrecognizable as that of their muse counterpart, but due entirely to intentional intervention. Is it possible to become a game’s win condition? What if you just croaked yourself and demanded a new universe and all its possibilities be true?
