The International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit (IIMD) www.iimd.org is commemorating its 97th anniversary of serving the community in immigration, social services and global education. Our theme for 2015 is “Unity in our Global Community”, a series of celebration events highlighting the achievements of individuals and groups who are making the difference in our community. Question: What would be the positive change they want to see in the world? We asked people to answer the question on social media, with a selfie. This selfie campaign will culminated in a mural that will be launched on March 28th, a collage of photos and messages from all over the world that expresses peoples desire for change. The goal was to use each picture as a pixel in the creation of a the Flags that are part of a large wall mural, called, "Many nationalities, many creeds, one country!" A mosaic, from a distance the viewer sees the image of a flag. Closer up, the viewer will notice that the mural is composed of hundreds and thousands of images of people’s faces, Each piece of this mosaic will be a "selfie" submitted by (students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, volunteers, sponsors, suppliers etc.). Your picture will appear on the flag of the country you are in at the time of the selfie. People on every continent – 113 countries and regions in all will be invited to post selfies. From Antarctica to Yemen, Greenland to Guatemala, Micronesia to the Maldives, Pakistan, Poland, Peru – and on. The project has a International based social action campaign built in to, inspire a global learning and cultural awareness program to help our children to think globally and act locally, to create social and economic change. The campaign has a goal to reach 10 million kids or more, causing a tipping point that creates PEACE throughout the world. It’s a collaboration of the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit and several businesses, organizations, institutions from our community and 91 different ethnic groups throughout Southeastern Michigan. We are proud to continue building the bridges of harmony, unity, understanding and peace in our local and global community.
