Exactly 4 months later and I finally finished the hat/costume. I got so many compliments from the fair, which was so nice, but now I have plans for next year's fair. Any suggestions are welcomed.

My Halloween costume for this year

I crocheted the hat, made the tail from fabric I found from my local nonprofit craft shop, and the vest was a find from a thrift store. Overall the entire costume was $12.10 and it kept me incredibly warm during this really cold Halloween.
