OH MY GOD I NEEDED THIS
For the chronically anxious and/or otherwise mentally ill:
This is not a screamer, jumpscare, or any other kind of horror link I don’t know the name of. It will not cause you to question reality and as far as I’m aware, there is no reason it should cause any kind of hallucinations or psychosis. I don’t want to spoil the surprise because it’s DELIGHTFUL but I am happy to tell you it’s very sweet and gentle and also great lowkey stress relief. This is a cinnamon roll link appropriate for all ages (yes, all the way down to babies) and you will enjoy it if you click it. ❤️
This makes me so happy

Mad with boop power! I felt inspired.
Beldam
I think my mother was a Beldam. But I was not Coraline Jones.
My visits to her world were limited. Only a few times a year, but she made them count.
From five to sixteen, I believed the lies she weaved. I took her visions and stories as the truth.
“You’ve been living in the other world,” she would tell me. “You’d be happy with me. I’d take care of you and give you the love you need.”
I wandered the real world feeling trapped. I felt no love here. Would my soul be stolen from me if I didn’t get back to her world?
My soul was being stolen. A chunk every time I saw my mother. A grain’s worth with our daily phone calls. Until I was left with a hole in my chest. My soul was broken and scattered across the world.
A question remains. If my mother was a Beldam, what happened to the original? Gone and transformed if you ask my father. The original was lost to whatever drug had been her choice.
I think the loss was much sooner in her life. Her own soul was taken from her at a young age. Broken and thrown away. Instead of finding her missing pieces, she wanted to take mine. A daughter’s soul must fit perfectly.
A dangerous love. If you can call it love at all.
I’m twenty-six now. The door to her world has been shut and locked. The key is at the bottom of the well. The only proof she exists anymore is an occasional sad knock and whispered tale of pity. She doesn’t even attempt to open the door. The expectation is for me to walk through.
I’ve turned away from the door. There is no time to listen to her stories. I have a soul to rebuild.
I find the shimmering pieces every once in a while. They had fallen in works of art and in books. I have found them in my own mind. They fall free when I write something I can feel pride in.
Every so often a stranger will walk into my life. I won’t see it at first, but they carry a piece of my soul on them. Once I have time to truly look at them, I see it. It shimmers in their eyes with every broad grin. My heart warms, knowing that a piece of me is in their joy. I don’t try to take it back. I know it’s there, and that is enough.

I'm getting close to being done with this fic. Thought I'd post it here, too.
This is one part of a pair of painting that I'm working on. You Good Omens fans probably already know who's on the other part.
Please click on it to see it in better resolution 😅.
This portrait took me almost a week to finish, but I had a lot of fun working on this. I'm both glad and kinda sad it's finished already.
Surprisingly the hardest part to draw is that damned phone cord and it's many coils.
Edit:
I seem to have forgotten to mention that I used a photo as a reference for this portrait.
Let Me Try Again pt.7
“I’ve got it, Angel,” Crowley called. He’d been tinkering with the telescope for some time. He’d finally positioned it just right for Aziraphale to see his creation. Aziraphale pulled his jacket around him a bit tighter as he moved to join Crowley. His feet crunched in the snow.
“Let me see, dear,” Aziraphale said as he looked through the lens. When he looked through, he could see patches of celestial lights. There were swirls of color that seemed to dance around each other. They reminded him of the patch that he got to watch Crowley create. “Oh, Crowley. That’s beautiful.”
“Thanks. I’m rather proud of that one,” he replied before a shiver overtook him. He crossed his arms to shield himself. He wished he would have put on a thicker jacket. That’s what he got for trying to stay fashionable. Iceland was very cold. It didn’t help that they were in the northern part in the winter. Still, the trip was worth it.
“Are you alright?” Aziraphale questioned, seeing the shiver.
“I’m fine. Just a little cold,” he answered. Aziraphale gave him a fond smile before looping his arm in his. Crowley smiled back at him and didn’t argue as Aziraphale began to lead him back inside. They could come back out to the telescope tomorrow. Aziraphale would like to look a little more, but not while the other man was shivering.
“We’ll get warmed up with some cocoa. I think we can watch the northern lights from the window,” he said. Crowley normally drank things like coffee or wine, but hot cocoa sounded pretty good right now. They both felt a wave of warmth when they entered their little cabin. It was enough to make Crowley let out a groan. Despite not being in snake form, he felt like he’d just found the perfect warm patch.
“You go ahead and get cozy. I’ll make the cocoa,” Aziraphale instructed as he took his jacket off and hung it up on the rack.
“Are you sure you don’t want any help?” Crowley asked. Aziraphale took his jacket from him gently before shooing him to the living room. The demon rolled his eyes before moving to the window. There was a ledge by the window that had a cushion that fit the space. He thought it would be perfect for their viewing of the sky. It just needed a few things.
Crowley grabbed a few more throw pillows and sat them along the edge. He placed them the best he could to where they would both be comfortable. Next, he went and grabbed the spare comforter that Aziraphale had brought with them. He almost felt like a child having to drag the thing. It was large and overstuffed, but it was one of the warmest things Crowley had ever experienced. He wrapped it over his shoulders and crawled onto the ledge.
Crowley looked up at the flickering of the northern lights as he listened to Aziraphale humming in the kitchen. The demon couldn’t help the smile that spread across his lips. He never thought they would get to experience this. Being alone with his angel was enough, but being in a place like this made it all the better. It was a bit domestic. That was a luxury that the two never got before.
He heard the fridge open and close a few times and then heard the record player turn on. It was a soft melody that played through the speaker and drifted into the living room. Aziraphale hummed along with it as he entered. He carried a tray that held two hot cocoas and a small snack tray. Crowley should have known the angel would get peckish.
“What?” Crowley asked when he saw Aziraphale grin at him. The light twinkled in his eyes, which brought a warm feeling to Crowley’s chest.
“You look so comfy, my dear,” Aziraphale said as he came closer, taking in the image of Crowley looking so comfy. It made him think of a little snake that had created a nest for them. Crowley lifted the side of the oversized comforter and motioned for Aziraphale to come closer.
“You laugh now, but wait until you get under here.” Aziraphale rolled his eyes but complied. Crowley took the tray from him as Aziraphale joined him under the blanket.
“It is rather warm under here. And you brought extra pillows. I don’t know that I’ll be able to leave this spot,” the angel said. He scooted closer to Crowley and leaned against his shoulder. “Not to mention, the company is lovely.”
“Don’t flatter me. I know you’re just as excited for the cocoa as being next to me.” Crowley felt Aziraphale give his arm a gentle swat.
They settled in, sipping their cocoa and occasionally taking something from the snack tray. They enjoyed the comfort of each other and listened to the music playing. The lights danced in the sky. It reminded Crowley of how the stars would move when they were first created. He didn’t miss being an angel, but he did miss being able to create.
“Crowley, all of this has been lovely,” Aziraphale said. His hand trailed up Crowley’s arm. The demon leaned into the touch with a hum.
“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.” He turned to the angel and saw the lights twinkling in his eyes again.
“I really am,” he replied softly. “Heaven should take some notes from this. I can’t think of anything that would be more of a paradise than this.” Crowley swallowed as he tried not to grin.
“You sappy bastard,” Crowley said as he wrapped his arms around Aziraphale and pulled him closer. Aziraphale shifted to where he could lay his head against Crowley’s chest and put his arms around his waist. “But you’re right. This is by far one of the best places I’ve ever been.”
Aziraphale curled closer, listening to Crowley’s heart beating in his chest. The feeling of lips pressed against the top of his head brought another smile to his face.
It felt like they had won. They had defeated Heaven and Hell’s plans for destroying the world. Their tiny team of two had come out on top. And Aziraphale was happy that he had finally figured out what Crowley meant when he said, ‘their side.’
“I love you,” Aziraphale said. He could feel how Crowley shifted and leaned his cheek against Aziraphale’s head.
“I love you too, Angel.”
It had been a sad few weeks since Aziraphale had returned to heaven. Muriel had done their job and stayed to take care of the bookshop. They
Let Me Try Again pt. 6
The day had come. Elizabeth was pregnant, and the angels were going to explain the purpose of her future child. Crowley would immediately wipe her memory after the angels had left. The entire matter felt strange to Aziraphale. He was headed in with angels and not Crowley. It felt isolated somehow.
Elizabeth looked at the group strangely as she opened her front door. Aziraphale gave her a warm smile, but the rest of the group kept a serious expression. They were unused to human interaction. They saw no need for pleasantries.
“Hello, miss. Would it be a bother for us to come in?” Aziraphale questioned. She squinted at him before looking around at the other faces. Aziraphale felt a shoulder bump him as Uriel and Micheal went inside. “Oh, dear.” This was not going to go well.
“What do you lot want?” Elizabeth asked with a frown. This was going badly already. Crowley watched from behind a bookshelf. He had taken his snake form to slide behind furniture until the time was right. The sight even made him cringe.
“We’ve come to speak to you about your pregnancy,” Uriel stated. The woman looked even more confused now. She looked behind herself, wishing she could call her husband. However, she remembered that he had gone out to do the grocery shopping.
“How do you know about that? I’ve only done the test last night,” Elizabeth replied. Aziraphale could tell they had angered her. Although, he couldn’t blame her. They had not told who they were or even given her a pleasant greeting.
“Perhaps we should do some explaining,” he said as he stepped in front of the other two angels. He cleared his throat, keeping a smile the best he could. “You see, we’re angels… From Heaven.” He gestured upwards. Crowley shook his head.
“You’re lunatics. I need you to leave,” she responded, gesturing towards the door. Aziraphale was the only one who made any effort to move. Micheal and Uriel kept their stone-faced expressions in place as they stayed put.
“You are carrying a very important being,” Uriel stated. Elizabeth stared at them with a grimace.
“Please, I wish you would leave.” Crowley wondered if he should do something. Although, there wasn’t much he could do from his position. Besides, he would be giving up the plan if he stepped in.
“We’ll leave in a moment, I promise,” Aziraphale stated. “It’s just, you see, your baby will be very important. He’s going to be the reincarnation of Christ.”
“What?” She looked exasperated now. Aziraphale held up his hand and miracled a flower in his hand as a way to prove that there was truly magic involved and not three nuts off the street.
“Me? Why on Earth would I have Christ as my child?” She asked, still perplexed. Elizabeth was no fonder of these strangers than she had been a moment ago.
“You proved yourself worthy,” Micheal interjected. “You have lived your life with minimal sin.”
“…But why would Christ even need to return?” She questioned. Crowley was amazed by how well this woman had handled herself. She had not once backed down and refused to let her questions go unanswered. It was almost a shame that he would need to wipe her memory. There was a glance exchanged between Micheal and Uriel.
“For the end times. Your child will grow and learn from you. It is your responsibility to teach him what he is meant for,” Micheal explained. Elizabeth suddenly looked frightened.
“The end? You expect me to raise a child to destroy the world?” She asked, more anger growing in her voice. “My child will bring nothing but peace!” Crowley wanted to chuckle at the way this was playing out. He shifted closer, only to bump against a picture frame. It did not fall, only shifted. It was still too much. He could feel it when Uriel’s gaze snapped to him before he was being pulled in. The next thing he knew, he was in human form with their hand wrapped around his throat.
“ACK, bloody hell!” He swore and coughed. He looked up from his newfound spot on the floor.
“We should have known the demon was here. Anyone who doesn’t go along with the ineffable plan must have an influence over them,” they stated. Aziraphale wasn’t sure what to do.
“Haven’t done anything,” Crowley replied. He knocked the offending hand away before standing. He straightened his jacket and backed away. Uriel’s look shifted to Aziraphale.
“You’ve been telling him our plans.”
“What? No!” Aziraphale was beginning to panic. He didn’t want anything to happen to Crowley or himself.
“Oh, lay off of him. I’m a demon. It makes perfect sense for me to trail the new archangel. I didn’t even know what was going on here,” Crowley argued. He had no idea if the others would believe him, but he couldn’t have them pointing fingers at Aziraphale. Uriel gave them both a hard stare.
“Honestly, we haven’t exactly been friends since I took my new position,” Aziraphale interjected. There was a flash of hurt that went through Crowley at the sentence. “Perhaps I hadn’t made it quite clear to him.”
“Make it clear,” Uriel ordered. Aziraphale looked at the demon worriedly before grabbing his jacket. He yanked him towards the door, making Crowley staggered.
“Right, be back momentarily.”
“Hey!” Crowley yelped as he was dragged outside. Aziraphale slammed the door behind them.
“Follow my lead,” he whispered before gripping the front of the demon’s jacket. Crowley barely had time to process the statement. His back collided with the door.
“Ouch, damn it, angel!” He snipped. Aziraphale pressed against him with his best attempt at a mean face. He wasn’t sure if either of the angels were watching them.
“Now, see here, you fiendish… Thing,” he said loudly. It was the best he could come up with. “This is Heaven’s territory. I suggest you stay far aware.”
“And what do you think you’re going to do about it?” Crowley questioned. He was on board with what Aziraphale was up to. Of course, it would have been nice to know to brace himself earlier. Aziraphale looked panicked as he stammered for something to say. “I said, what are you going to do about it?”
“I-I’ll make you regret it!” Aziraphale said. He backed them away from the door before slamming into it again. Now that the initial shock was over, Crowley was more aware of how Aziraphale leaned into him. It made him a bit weak in the knees.
“How?” Crowley asked. Aziraphale huffed in annoyance. Why did he have to ask him anything? He had intended on pushing him against the wall and making a few vague threats. Then, the demon was supposed to run away as though he were truly frightened. What had gotten into him?
“I’m not sure how. I suppose I’ll have to come up with a punishment. Perhaps a good lashing now will deter you from any future problems,” Aziraphale replied, unaware of the way that Crowley licked his lips. The demon chuckled, pleased with the idea of his angel punishing him.
“You’re going to whip me?” He purred, shifting against the door. He knew he should stop this line of thinking, but he couldn’t help himself. Where would this take them? Probably nowhere, but a demon could hope.
“I think a firm slap across the face will do,” the angel said, giving him a perplexed look. He was oblivious to what was going on in Crowley’s head. He lifted a hand and raised his eyebrows for a second to convey what he was doing. He’d give Crowley a fake slap, and Crowley would pretend that it actually hurt. He pulled his hand back before letting the fake slap fly.
“Punish me, Angel,” Crowley growled with a devious grin. Aziraphale’s eyes widened as his body suddenly felt hot. The fake slap picked up more speed with his shock. There was an audible ‘thwack’ as his hand collided with the demon’s cheek.
“Bloody hell!” Crowley gasped as he was sent to the ground. He rubbed his burning cheek as Aziraphale stared at him. The angel covered his mouth with his hands, and his eyes were as round as dinner plates. He was about to help Crowley up and apologize, but the door opened. The two angels were done with business. He did his best to look composed.
Uriel looked down at Crowley. They had expected Aziraphale to come up with some cheesy act to cover up his treason. Judging from the vibrant red mark on Crowley’s face, they determined this was not face. The alliance between the two must be deteriorating as they had planned.
“Aziraphale, we have much to discuss,” Micheal stated. He nodded before following them. Crowley just watched as he walked away, face still stinging.
“I’m an idiot,” he muttered to himself.
….
“How bad is it?” Crowley questioned. Aziraphale had gotten back about ten minutes prior. The angel had been quiet as he prepared two cups of tea. Crowley had been a bit worried when he didn’t make his usual hot chocolate. Aziraphale handed him a cup before sitting next to him.
“Honestly, we’re much better off than we had thought,” Aziraphale stated. He sipped his tea and let out a relaxed sigh. “Elizabeth never relented. She has no intention of letting her child end the world. We just have to make sure that no one tries to brainwash her to get her on Heaven’s side.”
“I think we can handle that,” Crowley replied. There was a short silence between them, and the demon felt the mood shift. He was overly aware of Aziraphale watching him from the corner of his eye. Crowley looked at him with a furrowed brow. “Why are you staring at me?”
“I’m not staring,” Aziraphale replied, sipping his tea again.
“Angel, I can feel you burning a hole in the side of my head. Something is on your mind. You might as well just tell me,” the demon stated. Aziraphale seemed to steady himself.
“…I was just thinking about the other day.” His face took on a red tint. “I was thinking about how you reacted when I pushed you against the door.” Crowley let his head fall backward with a groan.
“Shit. I’ve got to start keeping my mouth shut.” They fell into another silence. Aziraphale continued to watch the other man.
“Well?” He asked. Crowley gave him another confused look. He would regret asking.
“Well, what?” He questioned.
“Why did you react that way?” Aziraphale questioned. Crowley stood from the sofa.
“I’d prefer not answer that,” he stated, but the angel followed him. “Aziraphale, I don’t think you’re going to like any answer that I give you.”
“I promise that I won’t judge. I just want to know,” he stated.
“Nope!” Crowley attempted to disappear into the back of the shop but had a hand wrap around his wrist and pull him back gently. He swallowed thickly as he tried not to meet Aziraphale’s eyes.
“Crowley?”
“Y’know? Maybe we should talk about how you slapped the absolute piss out of me? How about that?” He said, trying to distract anyway that he could.
“I didn’t mean to! You startled me,” Aziraphale explained. Crowley shook his hand away and took a step back. The angel was starting to worry. Had he done something wrong? Crowley moved to walk away again, and Aziraphale couldn’t take it.
“Oh, why can’t you just tell me?” Aziraphale asked as he followed. Crowley felt the hands grab him again, but they gripped a bit tighter. Aziraphale turned him towards himself before moving his hands to the demon’s biceps.
“Aziraphale!” Crowley gasped as he felt himself being shoved backward. His back pressed against a bookshelf as the angel held him in place.
“Does this have the same effect?” The angel asked. If Crowley wouldn’t tell him what had happened, he would have to recreate it. Crowley stared at him with wide eyes.
“What on earth has gotten into you?”
“Answer my questions first!” His hands squeezed tighter, and Crowley could feel his mouth go dry. This was going to turn bad fast.
“I don’t know what to tell you… I’ve never felt like that after being roughed up,” he replied. Aziraphale felt his cheeks heat up.
“S-so you liked it?” He asked, and he could feel Crowley pulling away again.
“I don’t like this conversation,” the demon stated. He pushed away from the bookshelf only to be put right back where he had been. He clenched the edge of one of the shelves as he gritted his teeth.
“Please, just let me try again,” Aziraphale said in an almost frantic voice. Crowley furrowed his brow as he relaxed a bit. He wasn’t sure why Aziraphale was so worked up about this.
“Why do you want to do it again?” The demon asked. Aziraphale blushed.
“Because… It’s because,” he stammered before clearing his throat. Crowley couldn’t hold back a small smirk as something clicked for him.
“It’s because you liked it. You enjoyed throwing me around, you little deviant,” Crowley stated as his smirk turned into a full-blown grin. Suddenly, Aziraphale’s face turned beet red, and the angel moved away.
“Not initially,” Aziraphale admitted, still avoiding any type of eye contact. He wrung his hands together. His mind was obviously whirling and looking for something to justify his actions on. Crowley knew he’d be taking the blame when the angel’s eyes snapped back to him. He moved in quickly, and Crowley was back against the shelf. “If you hadn’t tempted me, we wouldn’t be having this conversation!”
“What the hell did I do?”
“You kept asking me questions! I didn’t know that you were using me to imagine some lustful situation.” Crowley rolled his eyes. “Don’t give me that attitude!” The angel shoved Crowley, his hand pressing in the center of his chest. Crowley grunted as he looked down at the hand. He bit his lower lip in an attempt to behave. Still, he needed to say something.
“Why do you get to tempt me, but I have to behave?” Crowley questioned, his voice a bit deeper. Aziraphale felt a shiver go down his spine.
“I’m an angel. I don’t tempt people,” he responded. “Don’t blame me for whatever lust you’ve been feeling.” Crowley chuckled before stalking toward the angel. Aziraphale backed away with a gulp. He stopped when they got to the edge of the sofa.
“That’s a load of bollocks, and you know it,” Crowley stated. “You want to know what I feel every time you shove me? My legs turn to jelly, and my body gets hot. Do you know why? Because a certain little angel is enjoying himself at my expense. I agreed not to tempt you, but you aren’t holding up your end of the bargain.” Crowley pointed a finger towards Aziraphale. “If you shove me one more time, I’m going to have my own fun. Do you understand, angel?”
Aziraphale chewed on the inside of his lip. Crowley couldn’t be serious, could he? He would never force Aziraphale to do anything. It wasn’t like he had been aware that he was teasing him. At least not at first. He looked behind the demon and saw the arm of the sofa was just behind his knees.
“I think you’re bluffing,” Aziraphale stated. He saw the other man’s expression shift to incredulous.
“Bluffing? You daft basta-” he was cut short by Aziraphale shoving him backward. The back of his knees hit the armrest, causing him to fall. Aziraphale hadn’t planned on the demon grabbing the front of his jacket and dragging him down. He tried to stand up quickly, but Crowley already had his arms wrapped around his waist. His fingers gripped onto his jacket.
“Think about this before you do anything rash!” Aziraphale warned. Crowley rolled his eyes.
“Calm down. You already know I wouldn’t do anything to you,” Crowley replied but did not loosen his grip. His angel was going to stay here with him. Aziraphale sighed a breath of relief as he looked down at the other man.
“…I didn’t mean to tempt you,” he said softly.
“S’lright, angel.” His hands shifted slightly on the small of the angel’s back. “But you know… Saying something isn’t the same as doing it.”
“What do you mean?” Aziraphale questioned. His mouth dried when he felt Crowley’s breath by his ear.
“I just want to talk to you,” Crowley spoke softly. Aziraphale caught sight of the yellow eyes that peered at him. The demon’s gaze was much more intense than his voice. Aziraphale knew that he had pushed his luck.
“You could talk to me while we sat up. We could finish drinking our tea,” he offered but heard a chuckle. It sent a chill down his spine and made his scalp tingle. “Oh dear,” he muttered.
“What’s the matter? Don’t like having your buttons pushed?” Crowley teased. Aziraphale chewed on his lower lip. “Surely you can handle the temptations of a demon. Oh, pious archangel.”
“You said you wouldn’t do anything,” Aziraphale replied, feeling fingers trace up his spine. Crowley did not have a tight grip on him anymore, but it was too late to move away. He wanted to stay right where he was.
“I haven’t done a thing, angel. I’m only talking,” he replied, his lips brushing gently against the shell of Aziraphale’s ear. It made the angel suck in a breath. “Now, there are certainly things I would like to do… There are things that I’d like you to do to me.”
“Crowley,” Aziraphale warned. He lifted himself to where they were a bit further apart, but he was still above Crowley. He smiled up at him as his hands slipped down Aziraphale’s sides and up his chest.
“Have I told you how pretty of an angel you are?” Crowley asked softly. Aziraphale’s eyes slid over him. It was such a different look and feeling for the demon to be underneath him. Aziraphale knew that he wanted Crowley, and he feared that he would cave soon. “I mean that. You’re a gorgeous person.”
“You flatter me, dear,” Aziraphale stated. Crowley’s hand moved to cup the other man’s cheek, and his thumb rubbed gently at his lower lip. Aziraphale pressed his lips against the thumb with a hum. “…Did you know that you’re a master of temptation?”
“I’m only as good as you’ll let me be.”
“That’s not entirely true… I think I feel the work of a masterful demon working on me.”
“Is that so?” Crowley asked. His golden eyes were half-lidded as Aziraphale leaned back down to him. Their lips met slowly as if to taste each other as their eyes slipped shut. Crowley’s arms slid to wrap around Aziraphale’s shoulders and bring him closer. The pace increased slightly as their mouths worked against each other.
“Angel,” Crowley muttered as the lips left his mouth to trail his jaw. Crowley leaned into the affection. Then, he felt one of Aziraphale’s hands begin to roam. It started at his waist with a gentle squeeze. Next, it trailed up his stomach and over his chest. “Fuck me,” Crowley swore as the hand caressed his neck on the way by. Aziraphale chuckled as his fingers carded through the demon’s hair and gripped it. The demon’s breath hitched in his throat. Perhaps fucking him was what Aziraphale had in mind.
Crowley felt his body grow warmer until he was nearly boiling. Aziraphale had lowered to press firmly against him, and his mouth was still working against Crowley’s jaw. Where had the angel learned to do this? Was this in his books? The grip on his hair made him tilt his head back.
“Oh, Aziraphale,” Crowley said, feeling the hot mouth on his throat. It seemed to be traveling downward. “Aziraphale,” he said with more urgency. “Think about what you’re do HING,” he let out what was almost a squeak when he felt a nibble at his collarbone. “I don’t want you falling into lust. Screwing a demon may be hard to explain to upstairs.”
“Is it really lust if you’re truly in love with each other?” Aziraphale questioned.
“… Now, that’s what I call a temptation,” Crowley stated, tugging at Aziraphale’s collar. The angel moved as directed. Was this what they were going to do? Were they going to bang on Aziraphale’s sofa? Although the angel would probably refer to it as making love.
“What are you two doing?” Came an inquisitive voice.
“Muriel!” They yelled in unison. Between Aziraphale trying to get up and Crowley attempting to help him, Aziraphale landed on the floor with a thud. Crowley grimaced at seeing Aziraphale flat on his back.
“Was this a bad time?” Muriel questioned
“Yes,” Crowley answered.
“No,” Aziraphale said, shooting him a look and getting to his feet. “No, dear. We were just.” He brushed his vest off, still looking to Crowley for help. The demon shrugged, not knowing what to tell him. “…Never mind that. What did you need?”
“You got a book in the mail. I thought you’d want to see it.”
“Yes, I would. Thank you, Muriel,” he said before heading to the next room. Crowley watched him leave. After a second, Aziraphale popped his head back in. “Crowley.”
“Yes, Angel.”
“We’ll finish our,” he stopped to clear his throat. “Our activities later.” Crowley gave him a grin.
“I look forward to it.”

The days that Aziraphale spent in heaven seemed to get longer and longer. The other angels were determined to find the right woman to bring the reincarnation of Jesus. There were only so many times that Aziraphale could use the excuse of premarital sex. Then, something unexpected happened.
Aziraphale stared wide-eyed at this woman’s file. She had done nothing wrong. It was completely spotless. Some angels couldn’t claim a record like this. How could a human achieve keeping their self so pure?
“This can’t be,” Aziraphale muttered as he stared at the blank paper that was meant to list this woman’s sins.
“I say we let her conceive within the month,” Uriel stated. Aziraphale tried not to panic. He swallowed thickly and closed the file.
“I agree,” Micheal added. Aziraphale looked between the other angels with a forced smile.
“But,” he began, noticing the eye rolls he received in response. Clearing his throat, he continued. “What if this Elizabeth woman doesn’t wish to have a child?”
“It’s irrelevant. Besides, our sources say that she and her husband have been trying for a child,” Uriel stated. This was bad. Aziraphale had no other argument. “Now, then. Everyone in favor, say aye.” There was a chorus of agreement from around the room. Then, Aziraphale could feel their eyes on him. They were waiting for him to either agree or give some justifiable reason not to go through with their plan. He wished desperately not to do this.
Elizabeth was truly a noblewoman. She’d never taken anything or even lied without returning to the person out of guilt. This was the type of woman who deserved an award. There was no getting around this one.
“Aye,” Aziraphale said, trying to ensure he didn’t sound disappointed. The other angels may have not actually wanted him here, but they weren’t aware that he knew. He felt worry rise in his chest as they all nodded in agreement. There was no getting out of this now.
….
Crowley assumed that an irritated customer had come in from the way the door opened and slammed. Or they were leaving because Muriel wouldn’t sell them anything. The demon wandered towards the front of the shop to find out what was happening and to curse whoever was making a ruckus. Instead, he had Aziraphale collide with his chest.
“What the bloody hell are you doing?” Crowley questioned as Aziraphale buried his face into Crowley’s chest. “What’s got you strung out?” He wrapped his arms around the angel but still gave him a perplexed look. Aziraphale squeezed tighter.
“I’ve failed,” Aziraphale muttered. Crowley furrowed his brow before gently removing him. As much as he would like to simply hold Aziraphale close, he knew there was a better way to make him feel better.
“I’m sure you haven’t failed, angel. Go sit down, and I’ll make you some hot cocoa,” Crowley stated. The sad look in the angel’s eyes made his chest ache. Aziraphale looked like he needed to be held this second, but he still did as he was told. He sat down and fussed with the ends of his coat as he waited.
“Alright, tell me what’s wrong,” Crowley said as he sauntered in with a mug in his hand. He handed it to Aziraphale before sitting across from him.
“They’ve chosen a woman for the second coming. What am I supposed to do now?” Aziraphale questioned. He paid no attention to his hot chocolate, but Crowley knew just the warmth of it in his hands would help to calm him. The demon shrugged.
“We could try to convince her to… Well, you know… Get rid of it,” Crowley stated, even though he knew that wasn’t going to be a real option for the angel.
“You can’t just abort the reincarnation of Jesus Christ!” Aziraphale responded. The shock of the suggestion was enough to get him out of his self-pity. “Crowley, I need you to be serious.”
“I’m a demon. I have to play devil’s advocate. Besides, there aren’t many options here.”
“I don’t know if there are any options. Once Elizabeth conceives this child, the angels will inform her of her child’s purpose,” Aziraphale explained. Crowley leaned back in his seat.
“Well, there’s two options right there.”
“What do you mean?”
“Either stop her from getting pregnant or make her forget what the angels tell her. Can there really be a second coming if he doesn’t know his purpose?” Crowley questioned. Aziraphale thought for a moment. Was Crowley right? Or would this child figure out things for themselves? Perhaps this was a doomed mission.
“I think the second option would be best. Heaven is going to be keeping a close eye on this. So, keeping her from getting pregnant isn’t an option. But, we could make her forget… I do hope this works,” Aziraphale responded. Finally, he took a sip of his cocoa and relaxed.
“We’ll make it work,” Crowley replied as he stood from his seat.
“Where are you going?” Aziraphale asked as the demon began to exit the room.
“Wait here,” he instructed. The angel furrowed his brow but waited patiently. He didn’t hear Crowley come back in the room but felt it as two arms slipped over his shoulders. “Have a look at that, angel.”
“What’s this?” Aziraphale asked, taking the photo into his hands. Crowley let his arms wrap around Aziraphale’s shoulders. His cheek pressed against the other man’s as he looked at it as well. The photo showed a cabin on the top of a hill. Aziraphale thought there was a telescope out front if he could see it correctly.
“It’s a rental cabin in northern Iceland. It’s in the perfect spot to watch the northern lights and has a view of an area of stars that I made. I thought it’d be nice to take a trip when all of this blows over,” Crowley stated. Aziraphale processed what was being said. His face and chest warmed as he realized that Crowley wanted to have alone time with him. His mouth started to twist into a smile.
“Oh, Crowley,” Aziraphale said softly. He placed the photo down before placing his hands on Crowley’s arms. “It sounds lovely.”
“…But?” Crowley questioned, tensing under the angel’s touch. Aziraphale wondered why the demon suddenly seemed uncomfortable. Had he done something?
“But what?” he asked just as softly as before. Crowley seemed to relax a bit, but not completely.
“Don’t know. I thought you might have an objection.” Aziraphale turned in his arms to look him in the eyes.
“I would love to go look at the stars with you. As soon as we sort this out, we’ll go for a week or two,” he stated and watched as Crowley grinned.
“If it goes well, I may have to keep you there a little while. I might want to keep my angel to myself a bit longer,” he replied. Aziraphale gave a hum before leaning towards him. Crowley shifted to give him a better angle for their lips to meet. He could taste the cocoa on his lips. Crowley nearly whined when Aziraphale pulled back.
“How do you know it won’t be me keeping a demon hostage? After all, it’s my job to thwart evil,” he teased. Crowley chuckled.
“Then, thwart me, darling,” he replied. Aziraphale leaned back in with another sweet kiss. The angel placed his hand on Crowley’s cheek and caressed it. He hummed again as his eyes slid shut. Crowley leaned closer to him, feeling how his chest warmed with the contact.
Aziraphale pulled away, their lips smacking as he went. Crowley felt them move to his jaw. The demon grunted at the feeling. He never would have thought Aziraphale would be so bold so quickly.
“Aziraphale,” he breathed out. “You’re tempting me right now. That doesn’t seem very angel-like of you.” The grin he had fell when Aziraphale pulled back. There was worry etched across his face. “That was a joke.” Crowley tried to catch his lips again, but Aziraphale pulled back.
“There’s too much on the line right now to risk falling from grace,” Aziraphale stated before standing from his seat. Crowley grimaced. He knew he had messed up with that comment. He should have kept his mouth shut.
“Angel, we were only kissing. No one has been damned for kissing,” Crowley replied, wishing for the contact he had just lost, but he knew this was his fault. Anytime he grew uncomfortable, Aziraphale was prone to run. His flight instinct was activated. “What does it matter if you tempt me anyway? I’m already a demon. What else could possibly happen to me?”
“But what about me, dear? I’m still an angel. Heaven will watch what I’m doing, and if they suspect I’m getting in the way of their plans, they won’t hesitate to find a reason to throw me out,” Aziraphale replied. There was a saddened look in his eyes that showed he wished to continue what they were doing, but he was too afraid of the repercussions.
“It was only kissing,” Crowley said again quietly. There was always the fear that he would lose more and more of the angel. Aziraphale’s mind was obviously running away from him as he began to pace the floor.
“Yes, it was only kissing, but think of what it could have turned into,” he responded. Crowley kept his mouth shut. He would love to think of what a simple kiss could turn into, but that may have been the wrong thing to respond with. “It starts with gazing into each other’s eyes and pressing our lips together. Then, there’s a bit of caressing. That turns into fondling and grasping. Someone suggests heading to the bedroom and-”
“Angel,” Crowley tried to interrupt. Aziraphale was quickly pacing now. Crowley moved to try to stop him. He raised his hands to grab his shoulders, but the angel changed course.
“The other follows them.” His voice was getting louder but deeper. This meant he was getting into his own dramatics.
“You’re going a little far with this.”
“The next thing you know, we’re doing the upside-down tango, and you’re tied to the headboard!”
“Huh?” Crowley stopped completely. His eyes widened as his cheeks reddened. “Upside-down ta- What the devil have you been reading?”
“Oh, dear. What if they cast me out for being so lustful that I even thought of that?” Aziraphale questioned, beginning to get hysterical.
“Why do you get to tie me up?” Crowley muttered before getting his mind sorted out. He stepped in front of the frantic angel and grabbed his shoulders. “Angel!”
“You aren’t going to be cast out. Calm down.”
“But what if-”
“No ifs. Apparently, your what-ifs get a bit kinky… We’ll discuss the logistics of that later. In the meantime, we’ll keep everything nice and chaste. But I would still like to kiss you,” Crowley stated. Aziraphale still seemed frazzled. “I won’t tempt you, and you won’t tempt me, okay?”
“…Okay,” Aziraphale responded. Crowley pulled him into a tight hug before kissing the top of his head. Aziraphale melted into him with a sigh.
“But, I would like to know which one of these books you got that tango thing from. I may need to know what’s going on under these little curls,” he said as he played with a lock of Aziraphale’s hair. The angel rolled his eyes and hugged him tighter.

Aziraphale had not expected to see Crowley so happy. The demon sat across from him with a broad grin on his face. To Aziraphale, it was endearing. However, he thought that it scared the waiter. She had taken their order and then hurried away, throwing concerned glances at the two.
“I hope their tuna is fresh,” Aziraphale stated as he sipped a glass of lemon water.
“If not, I’m sure that we can miracle you up something better,” Crowley replied. His arms were crossed on the tabletop as he looked at his angel. He’d been able to kiss him. He’d spent so long wishing for that contact. Crowley wanted more but didn’t wish to be greedy.
“I suppose you’re right,” the angel responded. He could feel Crowley’s eyes on him. His fingers tapped as he glanced between Crowley and the room. Still, the demon’s gaze never relented.
When Aziraphale thought of being admired, he thought of how people wandered through an art exhibit. They would stop in front of a particular piece that caught their eye and stop to examine it. Their eyes would travel across the exhibit, taking in every detail. He had occasionally wanted to know what it would feel to be that artwork. However, he had never thought about the gaze staying in one spot too long and burning a hole in the canvas.
“Crowley,” Aziraphale said softly.
“Yes, angel?” Crowley asked, voice sounding like it was melting. Aziraphale’s eyebrows knitted together.
“Are you alright, dear?” the angel questioned. He had never seen him like this before. Sure, he knew that Crowley had admired his form a bit in the past, but this was on a different level.
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Well, you’ve been staring at me quite a bit,” Aziraphale stated, hoping not to hurt his feelings. Crowley’s smile shrank a bit but did not disappear. Now, it looked small enough that perhaps he wouldn’t scare the waitress. The demon seemed to hesitate before responding.
“I’m just…Well, happy. We’re on an actual date, angel. I was afraid we’d never get to do this,” he answered. Aziraphale gave him a soft look while holding his hand out over the table. Crowley took it in his and squeezed gently. They fell into a much more comfortable silence as they waited for their food.
It was Aziraphale’s mind that began to search for an answer now. If they were on a legitimate date, did this change anything? Sure, he had assumed that Crowley had known they were casually dating the whole time. He had assumed that the demon wanted to take things slowly and not worry about any type of label. Perhaps he would be inclined to do so.
“Crowley?” The angel asked. Crowley hummed his response. “What would you consider us?”
“What do you mean?” Crowley questioned. His thumb rubbed over Aziraphale’s knuckles.
“Well, are we friends, or would you like to call us something else?” Crowley seemed unsure of how to respond. He hadn’t thought this far ahead. He knew this was the angel he had been in love with for centuries and that they were out to dinner. He wasn’t sure if he needed anything else.
“Um, well,” Crowley began before pausing again. Something in the angel’s eyes shifted as he seemed to think more deeply about the matter.
“What else could we call each other?” He asked, suddenly very concerned with the topic. Crowley braced himself for the potential whirlwind. “I’m sure that people would view us as boyfriends, but can you really call us that? We aren’t even human, much less human men. Friends is good, but it’s hardly romantic. Partners sound too much like business.”
“Aziraphale,” Crowley said, pulling his attention back. “I just consider us to be ‘us’. I don’t think we need any fancy words for it.”
“Perhaps you’re right,” he replied. Crowley gave his hand another squeeze before pulling it away. Crowley picked up his water glass to take a drink. Aziraphale chewed his bottom lip as another thought popped into his mind. He leaned towards Crowley.
“Would you consider us ‘lovers’?” He asked quietly. Crowley’s eyes blew wide.
“Two tuna rolls?” the waitress asked, holding two plates. Crowley couldn’t hold back as his water spewed from his mouth onto the table. He coughed violently, covering his mouth with his hand. The waitress and Aziraphale watched in distress, unsure of what to do.
“Are you alright, dear?” Aziraphale asked. Crowley gave another cough before grabbing a napkin and cleaning up his mess.
“I’m fine,” he choked out. “Very sorry,” he added, looking to the waitress. She gave him another concerned look before setting their plates down. “Can I get you anything?” she asked, and he shook his head. She walked away as Crowley’s face turned a bright red.
“Are you sure that you’re okay?” Aziraphale questioned. Crowley cleared his throat, aware of the eyes that watched him. He knew their attention would be back on their own dates soon.
“I’m okay,” he answered. “No, I don’t think we can call ourselves ‘lovers,’ angel.”
“Why not?” Aziraphale replied, sounding disappointed. Crowley gave him an incredulous look before leaning towards him to whisper his answer.
“Aziraphale, we’ve never had sex.”
“I know that,” the angel replied. Crowley wasn’t sure what was happening. “Can’t lovers just be two people who love each other?” The demon took on an even deeper shade of red. Aziraphale had just said that he loved him. His jaw dropped a bit as he stared at the other man.
“What?”
“Well, we are in love, aren’t we?” Aziraphale questioned. Crowley was still too stunned to say anything. The angel tilted his head slightly, examining his face. “Crowley?”
“You love me?” That was all he could get out in a strained voice.
“Yes, dear. I thought we had established that.”
“Angel, we did not establish that. We haven’t established much of anything. Hell, this is our first date. You can’t just- We haven’t…,” Crowley stammered before letting out a growl. He pointed a finger at the angel. “You can never say that I move too fast for you ever again!” Aziraphale rolled his eyes before smiling softly. He gently grabbed the pointing hand and held it.
“Well, I’m doing it now. I love you, Crowley… Are you steaming?” Aziraphale asked as small trails of steam came from the demon’s shoulders. Is this what happened when he was flustered? Crowley ignored the question and took a deep breath. He squeezed the angel’s hand as he steadied himself.
“I love you too,” he said quietly. He pushed away the idea that demons were not meant to love. He knew what he had felt for a long time. There was no getting rid of that to make anyone else comfortable. It was just different to say it out loud. Aziraphale smiled broadly.
“It’s wonderful to hear you say that, dear.”
“I still don’t think you should call us lovers.”
“Hmm. Fine, I’ll think of something else.” … They left the restaurant after about an hour of chatting between themselves. Aziraphale was perfectly content with the quality of the sushi roll and had decided that they must come back the next time he was back from Heaven. Crowley made sure that the waitress received a generous tip. The thought of himself spitting his water on the table made him shiver in embarrassment.
“I’ve missed the city,” Aziraphale commented as they walked hand in hand down the sidewalk. The streetlights were not as bright as the light in Heaven, but it was nice to see them lining the town. “Would you like to stop by the park?”
“Angel, it’s night. I’m not sure what you’re going to be able to see.”
“I know, but I’m leaving again in the morning. I won’t have time to go by. We won’t stay long, I promise.”
“We can stay as long as you like,” Crowley replied. They walked in silence until they reached the park entrance. It was dark past the gate, but they still entered. Crowley blinked in an attempt to see more clearly. Even with his sunshades, he could see better than the angel.
“Perhaps this wasn’t a good idea. I can’t see a thing,” Aziraphale said, sadness showing in his voice. Crowley couldn’t have that. He snapped his fingers, and a small ball of light appeared before them. It bounced up and down, casting a gentle glow.
“Where would you like to go?” Crowley asked. Aziraphale looked between Crowley and the light.
“I’d like to go by the water,” he answered. The light began to bounce down the path. They followed at a leisurely stroll as it guided them. “Thank you, Crowley.”
“No problem, angel.” They stopped when they reached the water’s edge. The little orb did not do much to light up the water. “Watch this,” Crowley said, snapping again. The orb bounced onto the surface of the water before sinking under. Several tiny orbs came back up and spread out.
“That’s beautiful,” Aziraphale commented. It reminded him of Crowley creating the stars. Crowley smiled, content with his work.
“Glad you like it,” Crowley responded, feeling Aziraphale shift closer to him. His hand slid up Crowley’s arm before holding his bicep. His free hand took the demon’s again as his head tilted to rest against his shoulder.
“I do,” Aziraphale said softly. Crowley smiled before turning his head to press a kiss into his soft curls. The angel responded with a content hum. This was wonderful. They stayed there for a while, just taking the moment in. It wasn’t until they could see the sky getting lighter that they decided to head back to the bookshop.
“Are you sure you have to go back just yet?” Crowley questioned as he opened the door for the angel. Aziraphale nodded. They went inside to find Muriel still standing at the counter. They smiled and waved at Aziraphale and Crowley, who were exchanging glances. “Have you been there since we left?”
“I have,” Muriel answered. “I’ve also been reading a book.”
“You know you can take a break when the shop is closed?” Aziraphale asked and saw a nervous look take over their face.
“I didn’t know what else to do.”
“You can take a nap or just sit down.”
“Nap?” Muriel asked, and Crowley grimaced.
“Yes. You know what sleeping is, right?” Aziraphale asked, feeling like this was a losing battle. He was almost sure that he knew what the next words would be out of their mouth.
“Oh, I’ve never slept. It seems so human. That and eating… and drinking,” they said. It was almost hurtful to hear that Muriel had never done any of those things. Aziraphale looked to Crowley.
“Will you make sure that they get some rest?” He questioned.
“I’ll take care of it, angel,” Crowley answered.
“Thank you. Now, I should get going. I’m sure they’re itching to get a meeting started.” Aziraphale wanted to stay here and enjoy a bit more time with Crowley, but they knew he couldn’t. He ran a hand up the demon’s chest before hooking a finger into his collar.
“I’ll be here when you come back,” Crowley said before feeling himself being tugged closer. He obliged Aziraphale and followed the pull. Aziraphale led Crowley down to where he could press his lips against his cheek briefly before moving to his lips. Crowley hummed as he leaned into the contact. The angel moved his mouth against Crowley’s, taking in the feeling. Crowley’s lips were soft and warm. He pulled back after a short moment. There was a look in both of their eyes that said they wanted more, but that was all they would do for now.
“I guess I’m off,” Aziraphale said, looking towards the door but still holding his hand against Crowley’s chest. Crowley reached up and squeezed the hand. It felt like they should have another parting kiss, but they would wait until the next time. Crowley let his fingers slip away as Aziraphale walked away. “Bye, dear.”
“Bye, angel,” Crowley said softly as he watched him exit. His head buzzed with his happiness. Then, he turned and saw the look he was getting from Muriel. They looked bewildered. “What?”
“…Is that part of human friendship?” They asked. Crowley was unsure of how to handle this one.
“Not exactly… Let’s talk about this later, huh?” Crowley asked, receiving a nod. “Right now, I need to teach you how sleep works. Follow me.” Muriel furrowed their brow before following closely behind. They had no idea what Crowley had in mind, but they had started to trust the demon. Crowley took them to Aziraphale’s bedroom and opened the door. He gestured inside.
“I want you to go lay down on the bed and try to sleep. I know it’s very human, but trust me. It’s one of the best things you’ll ever do,” Crowley stated. Muriel gave him a concerned look.
“What if I don’t know how to wake up?” they asked.
“Don’t worry. I’ll wake you up later. It’s not as hard as you think,” he explained. They still seemed concerned but went inside the bedroom. Once they had laid down, Crowley closed the door with a sigh. He was going to lock the front door and relax on the sofa. He wanted to think about his day with Aziraphale with no interruptions.

Aziraphale had returned to Heaven for a few weeks. He couldn’t stay at the bookshop forever, despite how much Crowley might wish for that. Crowley had been left alone with Muriel, who was still confused about what was happening. They stood nervously at the counter while Crowley wandered around, straightening books.
“May I ask a question?” They asked, drawing the demon’s attention. Crowley turned and looked at the angel for a moment.
“No, you can’t sell any of the books. Yes, I know it’s strange for a shop to not want to sell anything,” he replied. That was the majority of Muriel’s questions. He was hedging his bets that that was what they were going to ask.
“It’s not that… It’s really none of my business. I should keep it to myself, I suppose,” they said as they fiddled with a loose piece of paper on the counter. Crowley furrowed his brow as he walked closer. His hands rested against the counter as he leaned against it.
“You obviously want to know,” he stated. “If it’s really none of your business, I just won’t answer. I’m not one to keep people from asking questions.”
“Alright. I was just wondering how an angel and a demon became so close,” they stated. Crowley smirked and patted them on the shoulder.
“You’re easy enough to talk to. Who wouldn’t get close to you?” Crowley joked. He knew what they meant, but it was fun to watch how Muriel’s smile twitched. They were obviously flattered. Crowley assumed the angel had never been given much attention, much less compliments. “I’m assuming you mean me and Aziraphale?”
“Yes… That’s what I meant,” they replied, nerves creeping up on them. Perhaps they shouldn’t have said anything.
“Well, that’s a long story, really. It’s longer than I’m able to tell,” Crowley replied before placing his hands on his hips. He blew out a bit of air as he thought of the best way to answer. “I suppose it comes down to being friends for a very long time. Once you’ve spent enough time with a person, you learn more about them than you do yourself. Does that make sense?”
“Yeah… Well,” Muriel replied before smiling sheepishly and looking away. “Not really. I’m sure it would if I had more people to talk to. You see, I’ve been by myself for a long while. Taking care of filing and whatnot. Well, the files I’m allowed to see that is. They don’t trust me with everything just yet.” Crowley gave a warm smile the best he could to them.
“I’m sure while you’re here on Earth, you’ll find your own friend. You’ve certainly got the demeanor for it.”
“Thank you, Mr. Crowley. That does mean a lot. That’s something I worry about sometimes.”
“I don’t think you have anything to worry about,” he stated, patting a hand on their shoulder once more. “I’ve got some stuff to take care of in the back. Will you be alright up here?”
“I’ll be fine,” they answered and watched as Crowley walked into the back of the shop. Crowley hummed to himself. He started by making a pot of coffee for himself. There was some organizing that he wanted to take care of before Aziraphale returned. For as much as the angel cared for these books, he certainly left them in a pile. That was no good. Crowley intended to get everything out of the floor and onto a shelf. Come to think of it, he would have to make some more shelves appear before too long.
While he got to work, he was unaware of Aziraphale entering the bookshop. The angel took off his coat with a sigh. He placed it carefully onto his coat rack and gave a smile to Muriel. They returned the gesture with a small wave.
“Mr. Crowley is in the back,” Muriel stated. They knew Aziraphale would want to know that his friend was here. He gave a nod before walking to the back.
“Crowley,” Aziraphale called when he found the room the demon was in. He stopped in the doorway when he heard Crowley humming to himself. Aziraphale watched as he placed books on the shelf, keeping a tune to himself. Heat came to Aziraphale’s cheeks as he looked at the way the muscles shifted in Crowley’s back as he went about his business. He shook his head before walking closer.
Crowley was still none the wiser that the angel was coming towards him. The footsteps were quiet enough that his humming drowned him out. Aziraphale hesitated as he reached towards the other man. He didn’t want to startle him. Perhaps if he said his name again.
“Crowley,” Aziraphale said quietly, his hand touching the demon’s back. Crowley still swore and jumped before turning around quickly.
“Aziraphale, when did you get back?” Crowley questioned, straightening his shirt. It wasn’t out of place, but the action made him feel less embarrassed about being startled.
“Just now. I thought you heard me when I came in. I’m sorry for interrupting what you were doing,” Aziraphale answered softly. His eyebrows twitched as a thought occurred to him. “Speaking of which. What are you doing?”
“Oh, what am I doing?” Crowley said as he looked down at the book in his hand. Despite his intention to get this place cleaned up, he never thought what it would be like to actually tell Aziraphale what he had been doing.
“Just straightening up a bit.”
“Oh, well, I appreciate that,” Aziraphale stated. He clenched and unclenched his hands. Crowley cleared his throat. They were both aware of the awkward feeling between them. What were they supposed to do? Hug? Kiss? Ignore the greeting completely?
“So, how’s the plan going?” Crowley finally asked. It eased some of the tension.
“Rather well, actually. They haven’t been able to settle on a woman to be the mother. There was a close call. I couldn’t think of anything to say that she had done, but it turned out that she’d had her tubes removed. There’s only so much of a miracle that we can pull before people get suspicious,” he said. Crowley gave him a small smile and shifted a bit closer.
“Would be hard to explain that one,” Crowley responded. There was another long silence as the two pondered what to continue with. “So… You think this’ll blow over by itself?”
“I don’t know about that, but I think it may be less complicated than we originally thought,” he replied. “And I was thinking that we could go and get something to nibble on. Would you be interested?” Crowley grinned at that one.
“Is this because you’re hungry or because this is another attempt to woo me?” Crowley questioned. Aziraphale rolled his eyes at the comment.
“Maybe it’s because there’s no food in Heaven, and I would like my friend to accompany me. I was thinking about that little sushi place down the road,” the angel stated. The thought of a nice tuna roll greatly overshadowed his annoyance.
“Hmm. Shame it’s not a date,” Crowley gave a dramatic sigh, making Aziraphale’s lips press together in a flat line. “I don’t think I’ve ever been properly asked out on a date.” He kept his gaze away from Aziraphale as he made a frowning face. He wouldn’t be able to seem serious if he made eye contact. It would be too tempting to laugh.
“Crowley, what on earth are we doing right now?” The angel questioned. He knew the demon was having fun with this, but he was unsure why.
“Not dating, apparently.”
“Oh, bugger. What’s gotten into you?”
“Nothing, angel. I’m tickety boo,” Crowley replied. His mirth got the better of him. He looked back at Aziraphale and gave him a large grin. Aziraphale seemed unimpressed by the theft of his use of ‘tickety boo.’ “Alright, I’m done now. Yes, I would like to go to this sushi place with you… Do they have good sake?”
“I’ve heard it’s very good,” Aziraphale answered before clearing his throat.
“But, since you made a fuss about this.”
“Oh, bugger. I’ve pushed my luck, haven’t I?”
“Would you, Anthony J. Crowley, accompany me on a date?” He asked, voice wavering on the last word. Aziraphale watched the slightly stunned look take over the demon’s face before a pink tint covered his cheeks. Aziraphale was tempted to tease, but he feared his face had the same coloration. There was a short pause as Crowley collected himself.
“I-I would, um. I would like that very much,” the demon finally answered. His heart fluttered. Aziraphale had assumed that they had already gone on dates, but Crowley had never gotten the message. It was very different when he knew the true intention.
“I’m glad. Perhaps it would have been better with flowers. I’ll have to bring you something next time, dear,” the angel responded. Crowley swallowed thickly.
“There’s actually something that I would like to give you, angel. A bit of a welcome back, even though I know you aren’t staying very long,” Crowley stated. The angel seemed confused as Crowley moved a bit closer.
“You didn’t have to do anything for me, Crowley,” he responded. Crowley stood very close to him now, but he did not back away. He just tilted his head to look upwards. His face heated at realizing what he truly meant.
“Oh.”
Aziraphale waited patiently as Crowley leaned closer to him. There was something about how he moved that seemed fearful. Perhaps he feared that Aziraphale would run away or say he was moving too fast again. The angel didn’t want him to back away. Aziraphale lifted a hand and placed it on Crowley’s cheek, his thumb tracing over his cheekbone gently.
“It’s okay, dear,” Aziraphale said softly. Crowley pressed closer. The angel could feel the warmth of his breath against his lips. He was tempted to close the gap but let the demon finish what he had started. Crowley kissed him gently, keeping his mouth still. Aziraphale did the same. They knew the kiss was awkward, but they had to start somewhere.
Crowley eventually pulled away, red-faced and shaky hands. He wished he had done better. It wasn’t like he had never kissed anyone before. Hell, he had kissed Aziraphale before, but that had been rushed. He hadn’t had time to think about it before. Now, his nerves were getting the better of him.
“That was lovely, Crowley,” Aziraphale said with a soft smile. Crowley let out a huff, feeling his jitters starting to retreat.
“I appreciate the lie, angel. It’ll be better the next time. I promise,” Crowley stated. A part of him was relieved that Aziraphale would spare his feelings the way he had. The rest was a bit giddy that he even had the opportunity to kiss him. “Now, then. We have to get to dinner. You must be hungry after not having anything to eat for a few weeks.
“I am getting a bit peckish,” Aziraphale responded. He took the demon’s hand in his before they headed out the door. Muriel waved goodbye to them and silently wondered why Crowley was grinning like a madman.
It had been a sad few weeks since Aziraphale had returned to heaven. Muriel had done their job and stayed to take care of the bookshop. They
Aziraphale had not expected to see Crowley so happy. The demon sat across from him with a broad grin on his face. To Aziraphale, it was ende

Muriel guarded the front desk while Crowley and Aziraphale spoke in the back. Despite him knowing what the other angels had said, Aziraphale was still the archangel. Besides, Heaven thought that he had just come back down because he missed his bookshop. They had yet to learn that a new plan was being made. Muriel had been told to follow Aziraphale’s orders. So, there was no chance of them telling on the pair.
“Oh, what are we supposed to do about this?” Aziraphale questioned. He had taken to searching old Bibles as if that would do him any good. Obviously, it wouldn’t have instructions on how to stop the second coming. Crowley was seated next to him with his arms overlapping on the table. He had his chin propped on his arms.
“Not sure, Angel,” he replied with a drowsy tone. Despite not needing sleep, Crowley was rather fond of it. He shifted slightly to get more comfortable.
“Crowley, I can’t do this alone,” Aziraphale stated. The demon sat up and looked over at him. There was a distinct look of worry etched across the angel’s face.
“What’s the first step of this plan? The second coming?” Crowley questioned as he got more comfortable but kept his gaze on Aziraphale.
“They intend to find a woman to carry the child. I heard them say something about finding a woman as pure as Mary,” he replied. Crowley scoffed at that.
“Well, that isn’t going to happen. The way Heaven looks at things now, being born is its own sin,” Crowley stated. Aziraphale looked displeased with the comment. That couldn’t be true.
“Don’t you think you’re exaggerating a bit?” He asked, closing the bible. Crowley shrugged. The demon knew what he was saying wasn’t exactly true, but that’s what it felt like some days.
“You get a say in the woman, don’t you?” he questioned. Aziraphale nodded and watched Crowley lean back in his seat, arms crossed over his chest. “Point out what the women have done wrong. Can’t have a woman as pure as Mary if the archangel points out her sins.”
“I suppose that might work. Although, it does feel a bit rude. Should I really be judging people so harshly? Faults are what make humans… Well, human,” Aziraphale answered. Crowley did appreciate how considerate Aziraphale could be, but that didn’t fit into their plan. He needed his angel to be a bit ruthless.
“Angel, you’re the only one in Heaven that cares for humanity. The rest of them are up there waiting for the end. If you ask me, it’s better to be a bit rude now. So, you can be nice later.”
Aziraphale stopped to think about what Crowley had said. Was it in good faith to postpone the world's end to spread goodness later? He desperately wanted to believe so. All he had to do was ensure that Heaven never found the perfect woman, and they could go about their life here on Earth. He swallowed thickly before nodding.
“I think you’re right,” he said softly before fiddling with his fingers. He looked downwards, a feeling of hesitation rising in his chest. “But what if I can’t convince them?”
“Then, we’ll think of a new plan. We can think of as many plans as you want, Angel,” Crowley replied. He blinked some of the sleepiness away as he shifted in his seat again. They’d been going back and forth with ideas for hours. He was mildly surprised that Aziraphale hadn’t tried to change the subject. He was used to the angel backing away when he started to get uncomfortable.
Aziraphale glanced up at the demon before looking back down. The feeling in his chest was still there, but he needed to say what he wanted. This couldn’t be put off. If he did, he feared it would be too late. “I think we can put off making any more plans. At least until tomorrow,” Aziraphale stated as he braced himself. “But there’s something that I need to know for sure.”
“What’s that, Angel?” Crowley asked. He stretched and sat up in his seat. He could tell that Aziraphale had something that was truly bothering him, and he wanted to be at full attention.
“Whatever happens between Heaven and hell or even Heaven and Earth… I want to know that we’ll stick together,” Aziraphale stated. He could feel a heat rise to his face as he saw Crowley clenching his jaw. Had he made him angry? It would be perfectly understandable if he had. Aziraphale had run away without him. He was sure that Crowley saw this as a betrayal.
“You know, I’ve been thinking about this,” Crowley stated, a bit of annoyance creeping up in his voice. Aziraphale frowned at the tone. Perhaps Crowley had decided that their alliance didn’t serve him. “Have you?” The angel asked, his nerves rising.
“I have. I thought a lot while you were back in Heaven,” he responded. Would this take a bad turn? “I wondered why you pushed me away, why you ran. You know me better than any being alive and have been my best friend for thousands of years. But you distance yourself from me when things get tough.”
“Crowley, I-,” Aziraphale started but was cut off.
“Hold on, Angel.” Crowley lifted a hand. “I won’t lie. It hurt me. I felt like what I feel for you was completely one-sided, and you only wanted to have some company. Hell is too much for you, and the angels aren’t exactly the friendliest lot. So, you stuck with me as a nice little in-between.”
“And you figured out that wasn’t the truth?” Aziraphale asked. He felt terrible that that was what he had made Crowley believe. At least, that’s not what he thought now.
“I did. I know you want to be good. That’s why you keep coming back to Heaven. They’re supposed to be the good guys,” Crowley stated. He looked away as a lump formed in his throat. The demon couldn’t bear to look at Aziraphale when he said this. “And that’s why I won’t ever be enough. Even if I had gone back to Heaven as an angel, you’d know what I’ve been.”
“W-what?” Aziraphale felt a hollowness in his chest as he saw the sadness in Crowley’s eyes through the side of his sunshades. Crowley swallowed thickly.
“It’s okay, Angel. You’ve never fallen. You’re still good and pure. I’ve been by your side since before the beginning. I’ll be there until the very end, but I won’t force you to do the same,” he said. Aziraphale felt his tears starting to fill his eyes and slipping down the sides. “I don’t expect you to give up your goodness for a demon.”
“Crowley,” Aziraphale choked out. His heart ached at the other man’s words. He needed to make this right. Crowley’s attention snapped to him as Aziraphale slipped from his chair to kneel before him. The angel took his hand in both of his and rubbed his thumbs over the knuckles softly. “I’ve taken you for granted, my dear,” Aziraphale stated. Crowley attempted to pull his hand away but wasn’t allowed to. “Please, let me say what I need to.”
“…Alright,” Crowley replied. His voice was strained.
“It’s true that I’ve been afraid of falling from grace. Being an angel is all I’ve ever known, and I’ve pushed my luck so many times by going against Heaven’s plans. But, never for a second think that I’ve thought less of you for being a demon. You’ve been a loyal friend for centuries. That’s more than I can say for anyone in the world, Crowley. You hate when I say that you’re nice.”
“Bollocks,” Crowley muttered as he turned his head away. Still, he let his hand rest in Aziraphale’s.
“Please, dear. Just listen. I know that you’re kind and nice because I can see it. I can feel it. I’ve been the recipient of your goodwill so many times. And I’ve watched you perform little acts of kindness you think no one notices. Well, I notice. I know the wonderful being that you are, and I swear to never take you for granted again.” Crowley looked back at him with wide eyes.
“You know angels aren’t supposed to swear,” Crowley stated with a half-smirk. Still, a wet trail formed on his cheek as his eyes welled over.
“I don’t care anymore. I swear to show you my appreciation. And I swear to be just as loyal of a friend to you as you have to me until the very end. It’s what you deserve, my dear. Give me a chance. Let me try again.” Crowley felt like he would break as Aziraphale pressed his lips against his knuckles. He could feel the softness of his lips.
“T-that’s enough of that, Angel,” Crowley said, tugging Aziraphale’s hand. The angel rose enough to be at eye level with Crowley. Their eyes flickered over the other’s face, unsure of what they were searching for. Aziraphale leaned in and pressed his lips against the tear trail. The salty taste slipped over his tongue as he raised a hand to caress the cheek after he pulled away. His thumb ran over Crowley’s cheekbone, wiping away the rest of the moisture. Crowley swallowed thickly, realizing he had a white knuckle grip on Aziraphale’s hand. He never thought he would have the angel here so close. Now that he was here, he didn’t want to let him go. But was he hurting him?
“I’m sorry that I ever made you feel that way,” Aziraphale stated as Crowley loosened his grip. He could finally breathe again as the angel moved back to his seat. However, their hands stayed intertwined.
“S’alright. You didn’t know, Angel.” He cleared his throat, his heart beginning to calm down. “Besides, you’ve made some pretty big promises. I think that makes up for it.”
“They may be big promises, but I meant every word, my dear,” Aziraphale stated as he pressed one last kiss to Crowley’s knuckles. “I’ll never make you feel badly about yourself ever again.”

Let Me Try Again pt. 1
It had been a sad few weeks since Aziraphale had returned to heaven. Muriel had done their job and stayed to take care of the bookshop. They had not anticipated a particular demon to stick around. He moped around the shop, occasionally cleaning up. It was always done in a slow manner, as if he might lose the will to go on at any moment. Muriel wasn’t sure if they should kick him out. Still, something about Crowley was comforting.
“Yes, ma’am. I believe this book is for sale,” Muriel stated with their usual nervous smile. The blonde woman they were dealing with gave an annoyed huff. Muriel felt a twinge of anxiety at that.
“That’s not what I asked. How much does the book cost? This is a shop, after all. It’s all for sale, right?” The distressed angel clasped their hands in front of them while keeping a smile. Still, their eyes cast downwards.
“I suppose you’re right, ma’am,” Muriel replied. Neither of them noticed that Crowley’s interest had been piqued. He sauntered to the pair as a short, tense silence overtook the shop.
“Well?” The blonde insisted.
“W-well?” Muriel stuttered. They were never good at interacting with humans. Interactions, in general, seemed difficult. Crowley squared his jaw as he stopped next to the rude woman.
“I need to know the price!” She said a bit louder than the demon cared for. He reached over and plucked the book from her hands. “Hey!”
“Terribly sorry. I don’t think this one’s in my inventory,” Crowley stated. The woman glared at him and went to reach for the book but had it moved beyond her grasp. “Store policy.”
“Alright,” she groaned, scanning around for another. “What about this one? Is this one in your inventory?”
“Fraid not,” Crowley replied and plucked the book up before she could reach for it. She scowled at him for a long moment. “Maybe I haven’t made myself clear. Piss off.” The blonde scoffed, turning away.
“Bleedin’ fool,” she commented. A small bell above the door sounded her exit. Crowley turned his attention towards the angel. They couldn’t see his eyes, but they could feel him gazing at them beyond the dark frames.
“Rule number one: don’t sell any books,” Crowley stated. Muriel furrowed their brow. They were conflicted by the entire endeavor. Crowley had been rude to the woman, but she had been rude first. Should they chastise him or thank him? Next was the matter of the books.
“I don’t understand. This is a bookshop. I’m supposed to sell them, aren’t I?” They questioned. Crowley shook his head slightly.
“Aziraphale wanted to open a shop for a long time. So, he opened this place. He never thought about having to part with one of his precious books. This place is more of his collection, really,” the demon answered. Muriel nodded but still had a perplexed look on their face.
“Just don’t worry about it, kid,” he stated. The angel seemed to be okay, just a bit dim. Crowley knew he would need to keep an eye on them just to ensure Aziraphale wouldn’t be upset when he returned. If he returned. The thought sent a pang through the demon. He had a sudden thought to sell every book in this place. Hell, he might just put them out on the curb and let whoever wanted them to take them. The thought passed quickly when he heard the bell again.
“Didn’t I just tell you to piss off?” He questioned as he turned his attention to the door. He felt as though he were frozen when he saw Aziraphale stopped just inside the door. The angel looked just as shocked to see him. His expression shifted to a nervous smile.
“Hello, Crowley,” Aziraphale said with a kind voice. Muriel looked between the two, feeling the tension rise in the air.
“…I just remembered, I need to clean up in the back,” they stated. The other two didn’t acknowledge it as the small angel ran to the back of the shop.
“I guess I should be going,” Crowley stated. He began to walk out the door.
“I-I guess you should,” Aziraphale said. His tone made the demon stop in his tracks. It was a soft, sweet tone that he used when he was upset but didn’t want it to be known. Despite everything, Crowley couldn’t leave him like this.
“Something’s bothering you,” Crowley replied. Aziraphale gave him another smile.
“Of course not, my dear boy… I’m just here to pick up something before I go back up,” he responded. Crowley turned towards him fully now.
“I know when you’re lying. Something’s happened,” he said. The two just stared at each other for a moment. Aziraphale watched as Crowley clenched and unclenched his jaw. His glasses were still placed firmly over his eyes. Usually, he would have taken them off by now. Crowley nodded to the sofa in the corner.
“Go sit. I’ll be back.” Aziraphale made a small noise in the back of his throat. His stomach felt like it was going to be in knots. Still, the angel did as he was told and watched as Crowley disappeared into the back of the shop. Aziraphale tried to keep his hands from shaking as he feared his composure would drop. Crowley walked back into the room with Aziraphale’s angel mug in hand.
“Here,” he said as he held it towards Aziraphale. The angel looked down and saw that Crowley had prepared a hot chocolate for him. He smiled but did not accept it.
“I’m afraid that won’t help me this time,” Aziraphale stated with a sad smile. He saw Crowley’s brow knit together as he sat the cup on a side table.
“Has someone died?” Crowley asked. “I’ve never seen you turn down hot chocolate. Not even after they tried to kill us.” He flopped down next to Aziraphale with one arm propped on the back of the seat. It hadn’t fully been the purpose, but if this went wrong, he’d be in the perfect position to wrap the arm around the angel’s shoulders.
“No, no one has died. At least not yet,” Aziraphale said. Crowley tilted his head a bit. “First, I need you to know why I didn’t come back after you… Well, after my last day here.” He could feel Crowley tensing next to him. The embarrassment and anger rolled off him. Aziraphale didn’t worry. Crowley had always been quick to anger but seldom lashed out at him for it. “I had considered turning back and just letting someone else take over in heaven, but the Metatron said something that made me stop.” Just like that, the anger had been replaced with curiosity.
“What did he say to sway you that quickly?” Crowley questioned. There was a bit of warmth in his chest. Just to know the angel thought about coming back to him.
“They’re planning the second coming. They still want to end everything,” Aziraphale wrung his hands together in an attempt to stay calm. “I thought if I took over in heaven, I could change their minds. Perhaps I could be the one to show them the wonders of the earth.”
“Oh, angel,” Crowley replied. He knew better than anyone that heaven wasn’t the place to go to be listened to. Aziraphale braced himself as his eyes seemed to glisten with an unshed tear.
“They didn’t want me, Crowley. It was all a trick. I heard them talking,” Aziraphale propped his head in his hand as the tears broke loose and rolled down his cheek. “They only asked me to take the position so it would split us up. They thought if I were to stay here with you, we would stop the next Armagedon.”
“Can you really say they were wrong? We did stop the last one,” Crowley stated as he watched the tears roll down Aziraphale’s face. Should he wipe them away? Best not to just yet.
“I-I thought they had seen the good in me… The good in you. They knew that you wouldn’t come with me and I didn’t. How could I be so blind that heaven would know my best friend better than me?” Crowley knew the angel had slipped into feeling sorry for himself. “Maybe I’m just a daft fool.”
“Okay, that’s enough,” Crowley said gently before resting a hand on his knee. His thumb brushed gently over his thigh in an attempt to calm him. Somehow, it seemed to make it worse.
“For heaven’s sake, where was that before I left?” Aziraphale questioned as he pointed towards the hand on his knee. Crowley was confused again. Aziraphale had a talent for changing the subject abruptly and acting as though it was his fault for not keeping up.
“Where was what?” Crowley asked. Aziraphale motioned to Crowley’s hand again.
“That. Where were the soft touches? And why on earth did you have to kiss me like that?” Aziraphale questioned. Crowley hadn’t been expecting that question. He assumed that the kiss had explained itself.
“Because I wanted to show you how I felt about you. I needed you to know what I meant when I said ‘us’,” Crowley answered. Aziraphale seemed to have calmed down now as he patted the demon’s hand.
“Dear, I already knew,” Aziraphale replied. He saw Crowley’s jaw go a bit slack. “Why do you think I’ve been trying to woo you since you saved my books from that bomb blast?” Crowley’s jaw hung a little lower. His hand went from Aziraphale’s knee to pull his shades off.
“You’ve been wooing me?” Crowley asked, sounding completely flabbergasted. He crossed his arms before slumping back into his seat. “That’s complete bollocks, angel.”
“But I have, Crowley!”
“Maybe you were right. Perhaps you are a bit daft,” Crowley replied. Aziraphale rolled his eyes.
“Why do you think I started to touch you?” Crowley gave him a wide-eyed look. Clearly, he didn’t believe him. “I’m serious. I had a plan. I started with a few dates here and th-.”
“Dates?” Crowley questioned, voice rising in pitch. “We’ve never been on any bloody dates.”
“Yes, we have,” Aziraphale said. He was aware that they had completely lost the thread of the original conversation. However, he felt as though talk of heaven could wait until this was squared away. “What did you think all those nights out to late dinners to romantic restaurants were?”
“I thought you liked the atmosphere.”
“I did. Because I thought the soft music and candlelight would set the mood. What about the trips to the park?” The angel pressed on.
“It’s a park! Everyone goes to the park. What did you think watching the ducks was going to do for us?” Crowley replied before putting on a silly voice. “Oh, would you look at the mallards? Fine feathers this year. Really makes me want to snog you.”
“Stop it,” he said. There was a moment of distress passed over his face. “Perhaps I’ve been a bit too subtle.”
“You think? Besides, you’re the one who always pushes me away. You told me I go too fast.”
“Well, you do. Every time I move one step, you jump ten feet. Just like before I left. I wanted a peaceful night that I could put my hand on your chest and dance with you,” Aziraphale stated. He placed a hand on the demon’s chest and immediately felt a warmth under his fingers. Then, I’d take your hand in mine, and we’d sit in the corner to be alone while the rest of the party went on without us.”
“All you wanted was to hold hands?” Crowley asked. He tried to stay calm as the angel took his hand and intertwined their fingers.
“It’s not just that. It’s the intimacy of being alone with someone, even in a crowded room. But I didn’t get that. I only got a short dance. Then, it felt as though you attacked me.”
“…It wasn’t at all enjoyable?”
“You came off a bit angry, my dear,” the angel answered honestly, shifting in his seat.
“Fine. Then you do it next time. I’d like to see how you came off.” Crowley hadn’t been expecting Aziraphale to scoot over in the seat.
“Maybe I will,” he said, swallowing thickly. His hand pulled away from Crowley’s. He seemed to hesitate before placing his fingers against Crowley’s cheek. The demon felt his mouth go dry. Was this happening? Sure enough, Aziraphale leaned closer. Crowley puckered his lips lightly in anticipation. However, all he got was a swift peck on the lips before the angel retreated.
“Perhaps it’s not so easy,” Aziraphale cleared his throat before moving away again.
“You tried, Angel,” he replied. Crowley was honestly more than happy with the small act of affection. It proved just how Aziraphale cared for him. Still, he was a demon. So, he had to make jokes. “Who knows? Maybe next time, you’ll throw me against a wall and have your way with me.”
“Oh, good lord, Crowley.” The two weren’t aware of Muriel reentering the room.
“I just want to pick up a bo-.”
“You know you want to defile this body,” Crowley purred before noticing the other angel. Muriel turned without even getting what they had come for and exited the room again. “Whoops.”
“Did you really have to use the term ‘defile’?”
“Eehh. It sounded good in my head.”
Muriel guarded the front desk while Crowley and Aziraphale spoke in the back. Despite him knowing what the other angels had said, Aziraphale
