Well here we are again. Every time I think I’m finally getting in front of my bills, life decides to slap me down.

Long story short, I broke my leg last year and the financial impact has long outlasted my stupid bones. I’ve had up a GoFundMe but it’s fizzled out, probably because I keep landing in the same hole.

But here I am once more. I desperately need something around 300 USD to cover internet, car insurance, and a credit card payment to get my car maintained. The only thing left in my bank account right now is my money to pay the rent and I absolutely cannot let that get eaten by other bills.

It occurs to me that one reason Jiang Cheng is actually a good parental figure is because of, not in spite of, his not-good-enough syndrome.

He would take upon himself any faults of Jin Ling’s - it can’t be that Jin Ling is a failure who can’t live up to expectations, that’s A-Jie’s child!  No, it must be me, I must not be a good enough uncle.  I must redouble my efforts.

JC is tenacious and demanding but he demands more from himself than anyone else, and the way that Jin Ling doesn’t hesitate to rely on him, his complete trust in him, the fact that JC is the uncle that Jin Ling summons (NOT his other uncle, who is the literal chief cultivator, no, it is Angry Purple Uncle who doesn’t have any convenient sworn-brotherhood ties to any other major sects), shows that JC is really providing all the love and support that Jin Ling needs.

JC is haunted by his parents and not being good enough and as awful as that is, it translates into a kind of caregiving that isn’t demanding, isn’t trying to shape someone into what they’re “supposed” to be, because to JC he’s the one who’s never quite good enough, while obviously A-Jie’s child is HERS and she was amazing, so Jin Ling has never felt pressure to be someone he’s not from JC.

That’s not to say he didn’t spoil him too much, or that his love language isn’t still salt, or that he didn’t hound Jin Ling to practice his archery or anything.  Just, there are a lot of people who have kids expecting them to be little mini-me’s, who think their kid is a little doll they can dress how they want and live out their own dreams through, who look at the mistakes a child makes as they’re learning and sees them as not living up to their expectations, sees the child as a failure, blames the kid for being a kid.  But never do we see that kind of dynamic with Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling, even with the salty tones, there’s no way Jin Ling would sass Sandu Shengshou like that if he wasn’t 100% confident in his love and support.

Jin Ling acts like a teen who knows to their bones that they have an adult who’s absolutely ride or die for them. And that adult is 100% Jiang Cheng.
