i've finally read and finished heir to the empire, abt a third through dark force rising now! what am i doing after the og thrawn trilogy though am i meant to attempt to read like. all of everything in legends in order after this or is there a recommended certain set of books to get through? help me legends girlies you're my only hope
In terms of books, most of what's been recommended, I'd second.
I'd also look at finding the Dark Empire comic series - while it's not amazing, I'd consider it a solid 'middle of the pack', but they are part of the legends continuity and get referenced quite a bit in some of the material, especially in Anderson's Jedi Academy Series, so at least reading them once will really help you out.
For a different genre, look for the Jedi Knight and Dark Forces Video games with protagonist Kyle Katarn. There's also some graphic novels that tie into the the video game series too, mostly around Kyle's backstory. (The games are old, the graphics are painful now, but it's still quite fun. You can find most of the series on Steam, though you may have to get creative to get them running on a modern computer) The Jedi Academy game is also in this series, and very much worth it as well! And yes, they do specifically tie in to legends cannon.
(I feel like these games are very much like the 90's version of Fallen Order - Fallen Order very much reminds me of this series and it's a Good Thing!)
clark kent ticking the organ donor box on his drivers license automatically out of the goodness of his heart and then panicking because what if he actually dies somehow and some human gets a super heart what would even HAPPEN like he can't have his kryptonian retinas with laser vision donated to a random eight year old and so he has to awkwardly go back to the DMV to get it changed to not an organ donor but he's so embarrassed the whole time because the DMV employees will think he's a bad person that by the time he's done he has to go cry in the car
plot twist he's so clearly distressed and sad about doing this that the dmv folks just quietly assume he must have received some kind of awful medical diagnosis that makes him ineligible to donate and the first clerk that helped him immediately takes a smoke break and sees him crying in the car and that's how Clark gets at least 3 rock solid anonymous sources at the dmv and a free off-brand coke from the break room fridge.

he's fucking disabled and has trouble walking when the normandy isn't taking heavy fire, he needed assistance to get to an escape pod because he is disabled and the rest of the cockpit crew are dead. he could have very well just stumbled bad during another attack, break his leg, and float off into the abyss of space
the escape pods still need to safely eject from the ship, and lore makes it clear the ship piloting vi isn't complex enough to handle mid-combat piloting. by remaining in the cockpit and keeping the ship out of fire, joker allows more escape pods to eject safely
too many people (redditors, mostly) look at joker's decision to stay at the helm as a betrayal, and genuinely blame him for shepard's death which is insane. he didn't make the decision to remain at the helm because he wanted shepard to die lmfao he does it because he knows, as a disabled man who forgoes mobility aids, that he has 0 chance of getting to an escape pod by himself and his best choice is to stay and try to keep the ship steady and relatively intact

🇲🇽🇨🇦🇺🇸class 1 recall of nearly 37 million pounds of various frozen microwaveable shu mai, fried rice, and ramen products from multiple brands due to carrots contaminated with glass🇺🇸🇨🇦🇲🇽
if you remember the previous ajinomoto class 1 recall due to glass from february 16 2026 (earlier FSIS recall link, my (rune) tumblr version): that one was 3,370,530 pounds. this current expanded recall is 33,617,045 more pounds of food, totalling 36,987,575 pounds of food being recalled, which wound up populating a table with over 600 fucking lines. below the read more is a LONG post.
ajinomoto identified the contaminated ingredient, which was carrots, and expanded the recall. ajinomoto is a huge company that supplies ingredients for a bunch of major brands (and also makes treatments for autoimmunity and cancer), and sometimes carrots can be evil, what can you do. brands involved in this recall are: trader joe's, tai pie, ling ling, kroger, and ajinomoto.
class 1 is the highest severity FSIS recall category, meaning there is a significant chance of injury or death due to the cause of the recall, which is glass. the FSIS recall announcement does not mention how the carrots became armed with glass or what microbes may possibly coat their weaponry, but products with production dates as far back as 2024 are being recalled.
I (rune!) hit mobile image limit in this post and could only post 10 out of 19 unique labels for the 16 products being recalled. some have packaging variations or are in other languages. please check the FSIS's product list and label list links for labels of all products being recalled, as well as diagrams of how to find out if the food in your freezer is being recalled.
important to note: the recalled products were likely contaminated before the earliest best before / expiration date involved in this recall, but you may only be eligible for your money back from products that have not yet expired.
some of these products were also exported to canada and mexico, but no relevant recalls are currently hosted on official government sites, and tumblr is already quite mad about the length of this post. so if you recognize any of these products, including ones that have already expired, probably do not want to eat those!

WASHINGTON, March 3, 2026 – Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., a Portland, Ore., establishment, is expanding its Feb. 19, 2026, recall of frozen not ready-to-eat (NRTE) chicken products that may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically glass, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The establishment is recalling approximately 33,617,045 additional pounds of various ready-to-eat (RTE) and NRTE chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling products, for a combined total of 36,987,575 pounds subject to recall.
This expansion includes 16 products produced between October 21, 2024, and February 26, 2026, under brand names Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, and Trader Joe’s. These products have best-by dates ranging from February 28, 2026, through August 19, 2027. View product list. View labels.

ready-to-eat means the food is supposed to be cool to eat safe style and safe to eat cool style, even if you never apply any heat to it. NRTE, which was confusingly not defined in this recall announcment, means not ready-to-eat. not ready-to-eat/NRTE means you need to cook the food thoroughly to a safe temperature before you should eat it.
rune pro tip (me): a significant amount of the US population is unknowingly considered high risk for food poisoning. there are several types of food that high risk groups are recommended to NOT eat (or at least recommended to cook thoroughly first) because they are more likely to make someone sick. such as salads, cold meats, and RTE foods. use a food thermometer!
since this recall is USDA FSIS, they have a great PDF here with an overview of high risk groups and high risk foods, what to do if you get food poisoning, how to report issues with food, and how to reduce your risk of becoming one of the estimated ~1 in 6 people who gets food poisoning in the US every year. although that statistic probably does not include eating glass(?). also the USDA booklet has a fountain pen on the cover so:
unrelated rune pro tip (me!): for a fantastic first fountain pen, get a pilot kakuno (~$10 USD) in medium or fine. pilot cartridges and/or con-70 ink converter. if you just want a fantastic cheap ball-tipped pen get a uni jetstream lite touch hybrid ballpoint pen for ~$2 USD. both are likely to reduce wrist pain and possibly improve handwriting, even if those are due to medical conditions, including food poisoning-triggered autoimmune joint pain!
the products in the previous recall are included in this recall. the products involved in this recall have best by dates of either 12 or 18 months after the date of production, depending on individual product. it is likely that at least some products that expired/are past their best before dates (prior to either february or march 2026, depending on when they were first added to the recall) were also stealthily supplied with glass from some malicious carrots and may be contaminated. luckily, this battle is winnable. chuck them!

The products subject to recall bear establishment number P-18356, P-18356B, or P-47971 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The items were shipped to retail locations nationwide. Certain Ajinomoto items were exported to Canada and Mexico.

The problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS that it received multiple consumer complaints involving glass found in product. Upon further investigation, the establishment determined that a vegetable source ingredient, specifically carrots, was the likely source of the glass contamination, which also impacted the additional products subject to this expanded recall. There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider.

this recall only happened because of four people who decided to protect others in their communitty by reporting something wrong with their food. in this case, people who found glass reported directly to ajinomoto, and ajinomoto sent these reports to the FSIS, and the investigation eventually led to the deviously sharp culprit: carrots.
the way the part about the injuries is worded implies there may have been injuries from eating or handling glass-contaminated carrot-containing food that did not meet the requirement to be listed as an injury for a recall for one reason or another.
worth pointing out: this recall does not include every single ajinomoto product that contains carrots.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in retailers’ or consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
glass in your mouth or gut are bad. hell, even eating sunflower seed shells can be dangerous. things that cut you up on the inside can lead to infections that require surgery or hospitalization. have you seen the grill brush recall? yikes! the inside of you is a really bad place to get stabbed. when you get stabbed on the inside, the longer you wait to receive medical care, the more likely the stabbing will result in lifelong consequences. such as death.
and as mentioned at the top of this post: at least some of the already expired products with best before dates from before the recalls are likely to be contaminated with glass, although they are probably not eligible for getting your money back.

try not to eat glass, alright? and if you think you have eaten glass for any reason, please consider going to the emergency room. when it comes to stuff that can puncture your gut, the earlier it gets caught and possibly removed, the less likely you are to need hospitalization or parts of your insides removed to prevent you from dying of an infection. if anyone actually find a picture of the glass shards, let me (rune!!!!!!) know! this recall post took several days and dozens of hours to research, type, and format, so I think I just need to go ahead and hit post.
but before that, whoever you are reading this: if you have chronic health issues of almost any kind, especially if you are not happy with your current treatment/diagnoses/quality of life: have your doctors talked to you about dysautonomia and autoimmunity?
they are common types of conditions that often only test "positive" on a few specific targeted tests that may require rare and specialized equipment, and sometimes patients test "negative" on those targeted tests despite having the condition in question. even people with life-threatening forms of dysautonomia or autoimmunity will often test "healthy" on dozens of tests before appropriate autonomic or autoimmune testing is conducted. these conditions are treatable with a ton of different prescription medications, the hardest part is just finding a decent doctor familiar with diagnosing and treating them because they are on the rise around the world. autoimmune and autonomic conditions often trigger within weeks of countless other illnesses, infections, injuries, surgeries, medical flares, etc.
one of the best and easiest ways to get a good doctor who is understanding and knowledgeable is to ask around local medical support groups relevant to the type of condition you want to be screened for. just like reporting unsafe food and products can save lives, reporting good or horrible doctors is also a great way to help others. please do not mention me (rune!!!!!!!!) or my blog in any way in any medical support group though, thank you! I am no support group leader or medical professional or anything, I am just someone who got really, really sick from contaminated food a long time ago. hoping I can save at least a few other folks from the same fate before I kick the bucket from it, you know?
because i do fundamentally believe everyone should have the right to die when they want.
BUT if they legalise assisted suicide in the UK right now i don't trust our ableist fucking government to not just start coercing disabled people into suicide to save money. they already won't give them enough money to live.
you can't make a free, genuine choice about the time and manner of your death until you have the right to live, as independently as possible and with all your needs met.
this is also true of people who commit regular old unassisted suicide because they can't transition, because of harassment or discrimination, because they can't keep a job or don't make enough money to live. it's government murder by proxy.
making the radical claim "11 year old children should be taught how to make extremely simple food" has resulted in people making arguments like "I wasnt allowed to plug in electronics until I was 16 and I think this is super normal actually" and "children dont know what ratios are so its unfair to expect them to be able to comprehend the idea of adding equal amounts rice and water to a rice cooker" and I gotta say originally I thought maybe I was being too judgy but now I feel very secure in my opinion because what the fuck
Sandwiches/things on toast. This was about the time my parents got sick of having to pack a lunch for me whenever I wanted to wander around somewhere. Figuring out what makes a good sandwich, what I like in a sandwich, how to use light cooking equipment (toaster) , and what else to pack with it in a lunchbox was a crucial start to my culinary education.
Oven-ready foods. Pizza rolls, chicken nuggets, anything whose instructions were "slap on baking dish, 350F for 20 minutes". The first few times were supervised to make sure I wasn't the type of kid who'd just shove their entire head in the oven for no reason, but after that, I was responsible for my own smiley fries.
Things with the instructions on the box. Your child can make pancakes, I promise. Your child can make stove top stuffing. Your child can make a box cake. Like with the oven-ready foods, you're going to want to be there the first few times to handle questions/random self-destructive impulses, but after that, the world is their box-food oyster. I directly attribute my love of baking to the fact that I won like five Toronto Blue Jays box cakes in a raffle as a kid and my mom didn't want to deal with all that, so any baseball-themed dessert I wanted would be up to me.
Aid during mass dinner operations. At around 10 or 11, I could be trusted with needed tasks when the entire family came together for Christmas or something, such as...

One thing that I do want to underline, though, is that your kid is going to fuck up. You fucked up when you were first learning; fucking up is an essential part of learning how to do anything at all. Your kid is going to set a thing of taquitos in the toaster oven, go off to play a video game, forget time exists, and return to sad black nugs. Your kid is going to break a dish that you like.
It is important not to flip out when this happens, even if that food was important and you don't know what you're going to do for dinner now, even if the dish they broke was the good Pyrex before they fucked with the recipe, how is that even possible? Failure is shameful enough; failure plus haranguing means they'll never try again. Commiserate. Clean it up with them. Share your own early cooking failures, like how you blew up a sundae that one time or how you somehow managed to ruin a pot of rice in five different, distinct ways.
The alternative is a kid that grows up and only knows how to order delivery, or goes off to college and gives themselves scurvy from an all-Dorito diet. And if you weren't so much as trusted to handle an unsliced apple until you were in your late teens and had to figure all this out from first principles once you were older and knew what Generalized Anxiety Disorder was, I'm sorry. We can do better for the next ones.
I also want to add that the prevalence of rice cookers and microwaves has made easy cooking options even more accessible. There's a lot more that can be made in a microwave than you expect but it is also a safer first option to learn with than the full stove.
The first thing I learned to cook was to make soup in a pot, did I burn it to the pot at one point? Yeah absolutely, but I learned and to agree with what's been said above, yeah disasters will happen hopefully they're mild and you can laugh about them later but learning doesn't come without mistakes.
I was baking with my mum and grandmother at 5. Stirring batter, measuring simple ingredients (and trying to steal the chocolate chips), mashing fruit, all the things that a small child can do, albeit with some mess. (FYI, molasses is even slower if you're 5 years old and are impatient because you really, really want cookies, dammit!)
Also, one of the most exciting moments of tiny child me's week was when it was a weekend, my dad wasn't working, and we got to make scrambled eggs together. Those eggs were very uniform (I took the instruction of 'mix it with a fork until it all looks the same' very literally) but, I helped make those eggs and it was exciting!
By the time I was 10-ish I could make most simple things, and had learned some more advanced things (like how to make a roux, how to melt chocolate in the microwave, and how to make hollandaise sauce using an immersion blender) as well as basic stovetop and oven safety. I also had grandparents who survived the Great Depression and Wartime Rationing, so I got taught a lot about substitutions and alternates - which honestly, I think helped me be a lot more comfortable in the kitchen because I then understood why some ingredients did specific things. Nowadays there is the internet, so, you can absolutely look up 'baking alternatives to 'x'", or "what can I substitute for 'y' if I'm making a soup?" and so on. Just make sure you're getting a legitimate resource and not an AI hallucination, and you're good to give it a try - you might find an alternate you really like!
And yes. You will burn things. You will ruin things. You will set things on fire (sometimes on purpose -- Christmas pudding is supposed to have flames! it's fun!) You may accidentally create terrifying cookie shrapnel. . . . (yes, there's a story to that, it involves cookie batter, a pyrex mixing bowl, a crowded kitchen, and a ceiling fan.)
You will find out you despise specific vegetables, or that you actually really like something when it's cooked a specific way. You will freak out because it's charred to the pan and now, oh no, what is dinner going to be? All of that is ok. Often, things are still salvageable, a lot of cooking is surprisingly fix-able!
And if it is really an unsalvagable mass of carbon now burned to the bottom of the pan, there's always take out.
