In S6 Cas betrayed Crowley, and sent him off telling him he wouldn't get any souls. "Flee, or die." In the next scene, we saw Crowley came back with Raphael. But Cas was already prepared with the fake blood. So Cas knew what would happen. He knew Crowley wouldn't go away quietly and just let it go. Yes, he was successful with his clever plan to deceive Crowley and Raphael. But he wouldn't have to deal with that at all if he had simply killed Crowley. He could go through with the ritual uninterrupted, then go deal with Raphael. Raphael was clearly stronger than him at this point, and it was a gamble that the ruse of fake blood would work. What if Raphael or Crowley decided to test the fake blood? What if Raphael decides to kill him anyway, even if he thought Cas gave up the real blood? His own life, and the fate of the whole world he sacrificed his self-respect and all his friendships for, would be at risk.

So that moment Crowley handed him the blood, Cas having no intention of continuing their partnership, Crowley no longer had any use to Cas, but had become a threat. Killing Crowley was the only logical thing to do.

Cas really, really didn't want to kill Crowley.

i feel like a lot of ppl like this idea of dark destiel where cas falls for dean and has like. all this internal turmoil about abandoning heaven for him but i just think crowstiel should have a monopoly on that dynamic. especially because crowley's literally a demon and cas spends a lot of time in the earlier seasons holding that over his head. it's not like crowley doesn't have a soft spot for cas either you guys are just cowards i think. this has been your weekly crowstiel propaganda

Would also like to point out that just bc Dean says something on the show does not mean it’s true, he’s just talking about things from his POV. Even if most of the time the show slots it’s perspective into his own, he still is a narrator which makes him an unreliable one

Honestly it would’ve been so so good if the show had any ounce of awareness about what it was putting on screen with regards to Dean and his actions and those consequences and more directly pointed to the parallels between Dean and Chuck and REALLY held a mirror up to themselves as storytellers by exposing the power of the author + called themselves out with regards to the very specifically crafted lens of the story

When I tell you guys 14x20 Moriah pushed the potential of the story by MILES and if they actually fulfilled what they’d promised here it could’ve been a genuinely really good place of television. Subverting literally everything about storytelling and pop culture and the capitalist machine that was keeping the zombified structure of a story alive by addressing all of these directly but well. That would’ve required actual competent writing and the willingness to self reflect and look beyond the surface of what they want us to believe it was all about
