the highest recorded wet bulb temperatures in the world occur in india, jsyk. in odisha, they’ve hit 34.6 degrees celsius. the human survivability limit is 35 degrees celsius but the body faces significant risks, potentially fatal risks, even at 30 degrees as it starts failing to cool itself, like i’m talking organ failure levels of risk. climate change isn’t coming to peak, it’s been in the global south where you can’t see it or feel it.
imagine temperatures that high and humidity as high as 75%—you make more heat than you can ever cool. your sweat cannot evaporate fast enough. you literally boil alive. heat deaths in india are underreported and they already hit the thousands. there is no plan, for a nation of almost 2 billion people. no plan. nothing.
What am I supposed to get from this, aside from a general feeling of pity towards the suffering?
Is it "Indians are acting very irresponsibly regarding climate change"? or is it "With a billion and a half of them in the same system they can't effectively work together to solve a shared problem"?
I refuse to believe they don't possess the knowledge and the manpower to craft a real response to these challenges so it must be that the will is not there.
The Nation of India should dissolve if it's too large and complex to be efficiently and honestly administrated.
With public health issues this serious being ignored, Indians would clearly be better served by smaller polities with more limited scope, and better incentives to serve the public (fear preferably), as it's quite obvious that the current state apparatus is not interested in doing so ('cos it's not scared).
jeez dude calm down are people not allowed to make posts anymore
Why would you assume I was excited? Are people not allowed to respond to posts anymore?
I think it's a serious problem that Indian people need to address even at the cost of some political unrest and major investment of time and resources and I said so.
Is that wrong somehow?
yes my friend it IS wrong.
it's weird that nowhere in the post were you specifically addressed, but you clearly took it to heart enough to type out that long-ass response. you're allowed to respond, but you clearly took this post as a personal affront and diverted it to make it about what YOU were supposed to do.
im unsure if you know this but people make posts about how this country is on fire AND theyre allowed to raise awareness about it especially to a wider western audience that likely doesnt know about it due to anglocentrism. that was the point of the previous poster. theyre allowed to make posts. especially since a HUGE part of the acceleration of the problem is the west's exploitation of indian resources and the fact that they offload their shit in india and the fact that a majority of india lies below the poverty line and is still dealing with the after-effects of colonization. the original post was nice enough to not say it, but i will! yes, the west IS responsible for the climate situation in india!
why havent indians fixed it yet? why havent usamericans and canadians fixed every problem in their country? why does the imperial core still have flaws? why havent westerners fixed it yet, why are they and their governments stupid? they have access to a lot of things that us third worlders dont have... so why havent they locked in yet? i am forced to assume they just like living in subpar conditions while their government exploits underprivileged countries. you are responsible for every single one of your country's flaws! you heard that right!
oh wait, i forgot. this over-generalization and lumping everyone into a hivemind is only acceptable for us third world browns, isnt it? it's not like we're individuals.
im not gonna pretend that explaining something to a person determined to miss the point is going to go anywhere, and if you continue being stupid i am going to advise you to block me beforehand. i refuse to let this post be derailed by your fragile ego so here's some articles about heatwaves in india and some ways YOU, yes YOU person reading this with money to spare, can help!
South Asia is witnessing scorching heat waves, with temperatures in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India regularly surpassing 110 degrees Fahrenh
Modi denied climate change for years. Now, as heat deaths mount, his government offers branding instead of protection.
Forced to stay home or switch jobs, working mothers are bearing the brunt of the climate crisis as classes go online for weeks or months at
