As somebody who was once responsible for performing video driver (including brightness) functionality tests on laptops, I can honestly say that this test never occured to us.

I’m 99% certain that the “Cars” world is just some sort of Open World MMO that takes place in the same Universe as the “Wreck-it-Ralph” arcade games. That’s the only way to explain the crazy logical quandaries we encounter anytime we think too hard about “Cars”.

It’s a type of Vietnamese lithophone (literally rock sound instrument) called a đàn đá. Some ethnomusicologists think that these are likely the oldest type of man made instrument.
