Sometimes I think that most CoAi fans aren't fans of the ship, but of Haibara.

When I sometimes read arguments about this ship, although many talk about their interactions, they are mostly based on love/empathy/identification for Haibara's character and their desire for her to be happy, rather than the ship itself. They criticize Conan/Shinichi, they don't like how he treats her, they think she deserves better, but since Haibara likes Conan, they ship her with him, and they ship it to death.

The people who are the hardest shipper of CoAi, are those who love Haibara madly, who say that she is a goddess, and fight against all odds for the ship, and suffer and cry because it will not come true. That they think she should be the main character and that she should stay with the male main character, but at the same time they don't like Conan that much, but they don't like her pairing up with any character because it wouldn't be "worthy" of a character like her.

In short, a part of CoAi's fans are not even fans of the ship per se, but are fans of Haibara getting the boy she likes, and therefore being happy, when even he doesn't love her back, and it would be unbelievable, at this point, that he did. Although sometimes they forget that Haibara is a character with an independent personality, that she was not created as a romantic interest, and that she does not need a couple to be happy. And they forget about it even though that's what they liked about the character in the first place.
