i think i love goosemav so much because there's no tension there. it's just... looseness. familiarity. they love each other so dearly that there's no need for the showboating or whatever. while icemav seems to me more like a dick measuring contest, like rivalry tension turning into sexual tension borne from that rivalry**, i like goosemav because there's no anger or competition there. just passion and love. mav looks at goose like he hung the damn stars in the sky, and vice versa. goose is the one person who sees past mav's walls of false bravado that he's put up to mask his deep insecurity. i really like how in the novel it talks about how mav struggles with making friends, but goose makes all the friends for the both of them. that interpretation of goosemav resonates with me. goose has taken this beautiful man under his wing and they are just utterly devoted to each other. carole too! she and goose work so hard to take care of mav and make sure he knows how loved he is. and there's no harshness there. just tenderness.

i think this is also why i can see tgm-era icemav more than tg86-era icemav. once they're old and they've mellowed out a bit, it appeals to me more. things have cooled down and i can see them getting romantically involved (now that goose, the other man, is gone lmao). but when it comes to tg86, it's goosemav all the way for me. i'm so compelled by their devotion and reverence!!
