A great friend of mine and I were have a really enlightening conversation during lunch today (we work together) and I was expressing that I'm trying my HARDEST to reinvent myself, to find my peace, to correct bad habits and negative thinking, to further show the real me and all the other sides of myself I have to offer to the world and people in my immediate surroundings. One thing he said that really stood out to me was "you give too much and don't take enough".........something so simple yet so powerful. My whole life I always seemed to do anything and everything for other people, and then I would neglect myself. Being selfless is a beautiful thing but you should NEVER neglect yourself. If you do nice things for other people then surely you should be able to do nice things for yourself right ???? That was already something I told myself I was going to change about myself this year and him saying that was a wake up call. I need to take life by the horns and take back my control instead of giving so much of myself into other things and people. Sometimes it really is that simple. Would that stop suicide and self harm 100% ???? Realistically I dont think so BUT in my opinion it would reduce it ATLEAST 85%. Why do I say that ???? Because alot of suicidal thoughts, actions or any type of self destructive behavior can and does stem from that individual's environment. The experiences and treatment of that individual EATS and ATTACKS that person's psyche to the point that they see no other option to escape. Honestly, I'm CONVINCED that people don't need food or water anymore, all they need to survive is DRAMA. You can be depressed, insecure, anxiety filled, suicidal, homicidal, traumatized, low self esteem or anything else but nobody will care about how to help you or even to ask if you're okay. They just want to know WHO did it or HOW did it happen so that they can have something to talk about. People will discuss you and your issues behind your back but never to your face because they only want to conspire and compare notes amongst themselves of what they see, know or heard about YOUR own personal business. Not out of love, not out of concern, but just for "tea" "gossip" "rumors" "casual conversation" or whatever else you want to consider it to be. Miserable people cause other people to continue to live a life of misery by creating more problems for them. I can't even make a statement without someone either taking it wrong, misinterpreting it on purpose, trying to make it seem like something it's not or trying to get more people involved in the drama to cause a fight. Please understand and realize that "leaning" on other people CAN indeed be a NEGATIVE coping mechanism. Having someone to talk to or spend time with that gives you helpful (constructive) advice and tips and takes your mind off of the things that you may not want to think about that is hurting you is one of life's most beautiful experiences that you can share with another person when you're in pain....BUT, looking towards that person as your ONLY source of happiness will indeed leave you broken. Only YOU can make YOU happy, whole and at peace. Be 100% by YOURSELF, not 37.8% looking for someone to "complete" you. When that person leaves, then what will you do ????
