i don’t think we acknowledge enough that when children want to be treated “like adults” what they really mean is “like people”

this is just my own observations of course but 90% of the time when a kid tries to get people to treat them like an adult, what they really want is the respect and acknowledgement that they associate with adulthood - because that’s what they must give the adults. they have to give that to the adults in their lives, but the adults never give that same respect back, and so they see that difference and decide that they want to be treated “like an adult”

and sometimes i see parents who are like fine you want to be treated like an adult then you can work and pay rent but that’s the exact OPPOSITE of what the kid is actually asking for. you’re just belittling them, clearly intending to punish them for daring ask for your respect, clearly intending for them to break down and beg to be “treated like a child” again because you purposefully twisted their wants. they ask for respect, and you give them abuse.

never, ever, ever, treat a child like a full grown adult. it’s our responsibility as adults NOT to, because they ARENT adults no matter how much they think they want to be, and it’s our job as adults to take care of them.

that said, ALWAYS treat children like people. because they ARE that. they’re real people with real agency acting as best as they know to with what knowledge they have

it’s not a matter of kids trying to grow up too fast, it’s a matter of kids wanting to be treated like people instead of objects or pets.

1) Women actually being quite clear, but not telling men what they want to hear. ”She said she doesn’t want to talk to me? So many mixed messages and confusing signals!”

2) Women not having cheat codes. ”I tried being nice, and she didn’t have sex with me. I tried being an asshole, and she didn’t have sex with me. Come on, there’s got to be some kind of solution to this puzzle!”

3) Women not being a hive mind. ”First a woman told me that she likes guys with big muscles. Then the very next day a woman told me she thinks muscles aren’t attractive at all. Make up your mind, women!”

4) An individual woman doing something confusing, and instead of asking “why is she doing this now?” men ask “why do women always do this?”

the reason we bring up our trauma when it comes to ‘shipping discourse’ is because we want people to realize just how fuckin serious what they’re doing is. ‘it’s just fiction!!1!’ no, it’s just just fiction, it’s the romanticization/fetishization of childhood trauma that’s created for the sole purpose of getting off to.

there’s not anything inherently wrong with exploring darker topics in fiction, even if you haven’t gone through those events yourself, or even projecting on fictional characters, (OC or otherwise), and using them as a coping mechanism. we have friends who explore darker topics in fiction all the time, and they put the time and effort into doing the research on the characters they’re writing and the exact traumas and mental illnesses that they’re going through. that is perfectly fine, and even normal.

but there is something inherently wrong with fetishizing and romanticizing abuse and trauma because it does nothing but validate the worldviews of people who actually do those things IRL. it makes kids think that adults doing stuff like that to them is perfectly fine and okay. it normalizes things like paedophilia and other forms of child abuse.

when children get desensitized to things like that, it has a severe effect on them in the future and many, many ‘antis’ are living proof of this, such as ourselves. no matter how much you tag it, no matter how many warnings you put on it, your paedo fetish incest fic will eventually make it into the hands of minors and kids, whether you want to believe it or not.

fiction and what people see in (social) media in general has an effect on reality, and if you don’t believe that, you’re absolutely blind.

By the way, you shouldn’t introduce cats like this! Especially ones that will be living together. It’s so much more likely to go bad!

Instead, keep the new cat in a separate area, such as confined to one room or behind a baby gate, for a few days after bringing it home. Bring things with the new cat’s scent, such as a blanket or toy it used, into the the living area of the resident cat and let it smell them. Let them smell eachother through the door or gate.

Over the next few days work them up to meeting. Let the resident cat into the new cat’s space while the new cat is secured (in a crate, adjascent bathroom, or kennel) and let the resident cat sniff around. Begin letting them spend time together in small doses. Make sure the resident cat can leave when it wants and that the new cat always has a safe hidey hole it can access. Do not leave them unsupervised, and make liberal use of positive reinforcement every time they interact, such as treats.

After a few days of this you should be ready to introduce the new cat into the household! This process is also good for new dogs or other pets being introduced to a resident cat’s space. This will make it much less stressful for the new animal as well.

They’ve done it, actually! The full bricks are in the prototype stage now, and are expected to be 100% biodegradable without the need for a commercial compost facility. It’s very cool. Right now they’re testing the durability and playability of the bricks and seeing what needs to be revised/reworked on their final model.
