Smile for The Camera

These are the illustrations I created for the book Smile for the Camera, published by Kalimat Publishing.

The story follows a young boy and his grandfather as they walk through the streets of Sharjah, with the boy taking photos of landmarks and important places around the city.

Through their journey, readers discover interesting facts about Sharjah, exploring its landmarks, culture, and local traditions.

The Other Father Christmas!

When I was first contacted by Jasmine Richards, the founder of Storymix and one of the authors of the book, she told me a bit about the story and the creative vision they had. I loved the idea right away and happily agreed to create a few sample illustrations for them.

Below you can see my initial samples — two character designs for the main characters, Mikey and Curtis Merriman. My samples were approved, and we soon began working on the full set of illustrations for the book.

The client decided that the interior illustrations would be in black and white, while the cover would be in full color. As usual, I started with rough sketches. Below you can also see one of my early sketches for one of the final pages — this one wasn’t approved because the client had a different idea...

so I created a new version with a closer, more dynamic focus on the characters!

When I got the chance to read the full story, I realized it wasn’t a typical picture book — it’s actually a 304-page novel with multiple chapters!

For the artwork, we chose a cartoony, fun, and clean style, with classic black outlines around the characters.

The Other Father Christmas is a wonderfully fun and multicultural story — exactly the kind I love illustrating!

Working with the Storymix team was a smooth, inspiring, and joyful experience. I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages — it’s full of warmth, humor, and Christmas magic. I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading this festive adventure!

Three children take part in a competition for a TV reality show. There are two judges and a chef/presenter. These illustrations belong to a lovely project I worked on for Oxford University Press.

Me Llamo Checkers

Me Llamo Checkers is the title of a bilingual book that I had the pleasure of illustrating. The story is written in simple, accessible language and tells the sweet tale of two kittens adopted by a kind lady.

For the illustrations, I chose a very colorful style filled with details and little hidden surprises in the corners of the pages to gently enrich the simplicity of the text.

The book was written by Ana Cano Nennig and published by Orange Hat Publishing.

Jacq Has Celiac is a children's story about a young girl who has celiac disease and feels excluded in the school lunch setting. She cannot eat the same as her friends and feels alone, especially while socializing during lunchtime with her friends. With her parents' support, Jacq comes up with a solution to help all her friends, including those on other restrictive food diets, feel connected while having lunch together at school.

She cannot eat the same treats as her friends and feels left out of the celebration. Rereading and talking about the book It is important that while children are learning to read, they have the opportunity to read books that match their phonic knowledge. Children should also read books more than once to build confidence and increase fluency. On the second or third read of a book, children will be more familiar with the words and therefore will take more notice of what they are reading.
