Concentrates are a extract from the Flower of the marijuana plant. Concentrates contain less of the plant matter, it is a collection of the trichomes from the plant. Concentrates are for smokers who feel they are not getting the desired relief from just smoking the plant. Where normal flower can range from 5-30% THC concentrates range from 50-99% THC. People with very low moderate tolerances or first time smokers should steer away from using concentrates at first because of the high levels of THC in these products.
how are the effects different?
The effects of concentrates are much different than smoking flower. Less material is needed, where the effects can be 4x as potent feeling. Most users feel like the concentrate effects are more functional or of a background effect. Making the patient pain free for longer than just smoking a pipe will do for them, that being said the use of too much concentrate can leave a user feeling very tired, inability to move or worst paranoia and other bad feelings. This is why concentrates needs to be used by only patients who have the tolerance for concentrates or who are a in a medical need for intense pain relief.
Dabbing is a new way to consume concentrates. This method requires an intense set up which include a butane torch, a rig(a bong like apparatus) a dome and a nail and a dabbing tool there are also set up which include domeless nails as well. The reason why this is the best setup is because it will actually vaporizer the hash oil immediately. A user brings the torch to the nail and heats the nail up till it gets red hot. Once the nail is hot the hash should be place on the nail with a dabbing tool and then the dome is placed over the nail to help contain the smoke. As soon as the nail is touched by the dabber the product will vaporize. A person can lose the hit if they do not inhale fast enough. When dabbing, the product is able to absorb into the system through the mouth. So to hold this hit in actually can be worse for the user because the smoke will start to expand in the lungs and cause the person a nasty cough. it is best to take the hit and exhale quickly so to not let the smoke expand too much in the lungs.
Can i use too much concentrate and what happens when i do? a person can consume too much concentrate for their tolerance much like a person can with flower. But with hash the effect are much stronger so it can happen quicker than with Flower. Just like when smoking too much flower nothing bad will happened to you, your not going to die or some how stop breathing. the effect with concentrates will take later to dissipate so it is best when you feel overwhelmed to just move to a comfortable space and watch a movie and wait for the effects to disappear. Just make sure to remember no harm will come to you using marijuana.
i have heard all different names used what is the difference anyways? the difference names relate to the difference consistency of the product and how it is produced.
BHO or Butane extracted hash oil:
Butane extracted Hash oil can come in maybe different forms which is a result in how the process is finished. Shatter , Sap or nectar are all forms that have been vacuum purged to removed all the excess plant material from the extraction. Wax, budder, flake or cumple have been whipped to help removed the butane from the extraction and create a easy to work with consistency. Hash Oil has had all of the butane removed but remains a viscous oil for use in different types of products like cartridges, oral ingestion, and cooking. Each one of these methods is has its own pros and cons along with it’s best way to use.
Shatter can have multiple other names such as sap and nectar. These designations are related to the final consistency of the product. Shatter will actually break into tiny pieces with pressure is applied. Sap with be of a more bendable consistency but will snap apart once stretched a little. Nectar has more of an oil consistency usually because the material used has more resin and oil to it. At groundswells our New York City Diesel is usually an oiler plant so it usually becomes more of a nectar or a sap instead of a shatter. Our love potion which is a 100% wispy sativa become a solid shatter. the Shatter/Sap consistency is usually best for dabbing because it is best to handle this without using your hands. This consistency will become very gooey when any type of heat is applied. Shatter has a lower melting power which means that less smoke is produced. It is also usually that shatter has about 5% more THC in the final product when compared to budder or oils. Shatter does take longer to produce because of the vacuum oven process which is why it costs more because more time and labor is put into creating the product. Groundswell has Multiple kinds of shatter available in grams or half grams.
- the process in which budder is formed can have multiple other different products depending on different variables. First being the type of product use to create the concentrate. Second the amount of time put into the extraction. Third how much the product is worked after the extraction. Similar to shatter if the initial product is more oil than the product will usually not make a crumble consistency it will be more of a budder. The more time spend whipping the product and adding air to the extraction for the more product will sticks to itself, less tiny grains and more larger pieces. Groundswell carries one type of consistency primarily because it is easiest to handle; Budder. Budder is great for dabbing, topping bowls or loading pens. This product has not been vacuum purged so it still has plant material in the product which raises the melting point and makes it easier to handle with your hands. 1 half of a tic-tat size fits perfectly in the pen and it will produce about 10-12 large hits. this consistency is recommended for the pen because of it melting point it will produce more smoke so most users do feel like they are getting a similar hit to a pipe but a lot longer lasting effect.
At this consistency a BHO product can be smoked, orally ingested, topically applied or used to create edibles. Oil has all of the Butane removed but has not been processed after that. Certain vape pens have fill your own cartridges and this consistency is used most frequently. Most hash oil comes in a syringe and this is only because it is the easiest and most efficient way to use the product. Groundswells oil has already been activate which means it has been converted from THC-Acid to THC therefore just eating the product psychoactive effects will be felt. Groundswell has 3 different types of Hash oil indica, sativa and CBD rich formula. Orally Ingesting hash oil is a prefered method because it will absorb right into the bloodstream via the capillaries in the mouth. Orally ingesting indica oil can help one with pain or sleep faster than ingesting certain edibles. Certain medical disorders are also helped by application of oil directly on the skin. When a person suffers from eczema or a burn even skin cancer hash oil can be applied to a bandaid and placed over the area. Studies have shown that this can help the healing or reduce the size of the affected area. This is also the easier form to making your own edibles with. Dietary restrictions may limit a patient's ability to consume regular edibles. So making your own can sometimes be the best option. Please ask your budtender about the potency of the oil before attempting to make your own edibles so you can better understand the milligrams that are in the half gram syringe. Using activated hash oil is great because it doesn’t have to be only used in cookies it can be made in to anything ingestible. This product is very sticky and very viscous so it is best to keep in the freezer or fridge to help the consistency of the product.
Different Types of solvents can be used in the extract of hash another common solvent is Carbon Dioxide. This extraction results in two different products a Wax or Oil. Co2 tends to be a more viscous consistency.
Co2 wax can be dabbed, added to bowls or put in a pen. Co2 wax tends to be very potent but can lack a little bit of the taste from the initial flower. When dabbing Co2 it is common to have a little bit of popping when the product is vaporizing which is why it is best to do with a dome set up and not a domeless nail. Co2 wax tends to creep up on the average user the full effects to hit the patient about 30 minutes after the dab. Co2 is great for patients who are worried about the purity of their hash. Co2 does not carry any harsh solvents into the finished product or any other harmful substances. This extraction does tend to be a little less harsh than a BHO extraction. So people who have throat or lung problems should usually use Co2 over BHO. Depending on the type of Co2 extraction it can be a oilier or waxer product.o learn more about Subcritical vs Supercritical extractions look at our extractors websites at http://edenlabs.com/processes/co2-extraction.
Groundswell also carries Co2 extracted oil. Co2 oil is also activated so it can be smoked or orally ingested. Co2 oil is very viscous so it is best when consuming the product orally to push the product out of the syringe and on wax or parchment paper then placed in the freezer this way it will be easier to work with. This consistency can tend to taste not as good when it is dabbed so it is recommend to add this to joints or to top bowls. The R-4 that groundswell currently has in Co2 oil is very high in CBD so this product is fantastic for a large amount of medical problems. Co2 oil can also be cooked with but one must be sure to keep at a low temperature to make sure to not burn the Activated Thc that is in the product.
One of the newest products to hit the Colorado Cannabis market is pre-filled hash oil cartridges. There are many different types of cartridges on the market ranging from pure oil to oils but with a heating agent or 250 mg-1000 mg cartridges and many producers. Groundswell has looked far and wide for the best to bring to our patients and we currently carry a pure Co2 cartridge which is filled with Groundswell strains and also O-pen a nationwide strain specific brand which is filled with heating agent and butane hash oil.
Evo-labs cartrigdes are made from groundswell flower and only contain pure Co2 hash oil. These cartridges come in many different strains including sativa and hybrids which are great for daytime medication. The pure co2 cartridges do not smell at all like marijuana which is great in social situations. The co2 cartridges contain 500mg and usually last the average user 2-3 weeks. This is a very smooth hit and can be better than some Bho extractions on the lungs. These are great for people who would like the effect of concentrates but do not want to buy an expensive set up . The Evolabs cartridges do have 510 threads but do need to have a button on the base so it has enough power to vaporize the product. Please bring your pen into groundswell so we can make sure it does work with both of our cartridges.
The O-pen cartridge provides ease and convenience right when you need pain relief. The O-pen comes in a pre-loaded cartridge with strain specific options. When vaping the hash oil less of a smell is present so it is fantastic when pain or nausea is sudden and a patient needs to medicate discretely. The beauty of these O-pen cartridges is they are disposable and rarely ever break. Once the cartridge is finished which will be apparent by the lack of smoke when a person draws from the cartridges it is just thrown away, and then another trip to groundswell is in your near future. This pen is oxygen activated so there is no button to push yet another plus for the O-pen. Depending on how frequent you use the pen it has contain up to 200 hits. For more moderate users the 250 mg cartridge lasts for about 2 weeks. Once you have purchased the base of the pen it will need to be charged but it does come pre-charged so after the purchase you're ready to go. The bases also come with a lifetime warranty that we honor at Groundswell. Come in today and try the new hands free vaping technology i think you will find your might have a new favorite way to medicate.
Bubble hash is the oldest safest way to extract trichomes. This product requires Cold temperatures and lots of shaking. Bubble hash is the only hash that doesn’t use a chemical solvent to remove the trichomes from the initial product. Bubble can come in different consistency like pressed hash, keif or a dark tary hash. Most bubble is best when it is placed on top of a bowl or into a joint or smoked alone. When dabbing Bubble hash or full melt it is the not best because it can tend to leave a residue on your nail. Since bubble hash is the oldest way to extract hash this is usually the consistency most users are familiar with. If you want to try hash at this time but are a little hesitant to smoke something with a THC percentage over 60% than bubble is the best for you. Bubble hash tends to stay in the range 50-60% THC so it is great for novice trying to find something new.
