Yesterday I was reading some grace and rocky fics for no particular reason and like
I already knew ortiz!rocky was hot
And then they make him not jsut a human rocky. But an alien humanoid rocky with 4 arms nearly blind but with really good hearing and who can still speak like cannon eridians and like UGH I WISH I COULD DRAW
I don't give a fuck this is alot of images I need yall to understand why I like the ones that have a plot
Also this is so cannon to book grace. Give me more grace being a freaky nerd who would study rocky extensively if he wasn't busy saving the world
been seeing a lot of human rocky designs around so i thought i'd try making one myself :]
design thoughts under cut:
took some inspo from this and that post
tried my hardest to make him just a weird little dude. like you would take a look at him and go yeah if there was ever a guy you'd need to stick in the very back of the ship it would be him
do not get me wrong! i think the designs based off james ortiz are great! however i really wanted his human form to have this little guy energy that mr ortiz's visage doesn't really quite capture
that being said the hair + glasses is definitely based off of him
rocky doesn't really have a face as a rock so i decided to stick big ol goggles on his head to emulate that. (upon further thought maybe i could've also given him a mask... oh well. you'd miss out on his freckles in that case anyway) the green + grey in his hair and the freckles all over him are other bits based off his eridian form
on a similar note, the knee brace is kind of a nod to his weird split leg
his tattoos are most of the marks carved into him condensed onto his arms. i thought about giving him the measurement-based marks on his legs so there'd be something there too but figured that wouldn't really make sense to have there so not pictured they're on the flip side of his arms. this also includes the goodbye lines
his family crest is flipped from the orientation on his eridian arms bc it'd be awkward to put them together like that with human joints
his clothing's pretty practical for a guy who's job it is to run around and fix things; lots of pockets, sturdy boots, etc etc. the green sweater is based off what he wears in the books with some squiggles thrown in for flavour (and also bc he has a couple on his arms in rock form). the toolbelt and armband in the second one are things he has in the movie
the contrast between his usual clothing and his celebration clothing amuses me. three outfits of plain, practical clothing and then holy shit he's dressed to the nines!!
somehow in all of these the right side of him is obstructed in some way so i didn't get to draw it but i was thinking he'd have those teal marriage circles as either an earring or a ring in addition to having it tattooed on him

I follow this person who's entire blog is red winged blackbirds and I keep meaning to take pictures of the ones I made friends with but I keep forgetting and I get sad everytime.. but trust that I will deliver them st some point❗️❗️ (if I don't forget)
Project hail mary time travel au where grace doesn't actually tell anyone he time-traveled or allude to it at all and tries to act as normally as possible but also keeps insisting on certain things for the ship (like a probe that can handle a planet's atmosphere) or insists on doing experiments in certain weird ways that took ages of trial and error to get to the first time around but he immediately gets results in like batshit crazy ways. sometimes he just forgets stuff (like little stuff) hasnt actually happened yet or he'll mention some aspect of the coma bot that lamai hasn't actually invented/figured out yet but that wasn't his specialty the first time and he doesn't know the timeline or realize that she hasn't come up with it yet and she's like 'wtf that's a great idea? how did he know this? why did he talk about it like i'd already figured it out?' he makes comments on elections/politics and accidentally predicts things because he simply doesn't realize that they havent happened yet.
hes like 'peter parker coming up with excuses for why hes doing weird shit' levels of bad at hiding his secret identity as a time traveler. he never says a word but the whole vat eventually figures it out anyway because theres simply no other explanation that makes sense to them. Stratt has an unofficial rule that if grace mentions an idea for the ship or something offhanded then it happens right away. embezzler bob keeps prying him for stock advice and he's like 'what the heck i know nothing about finance why are you asking?' it's an open secret on the vat that grace time traveled and everyone knows that everyone else knows except for grace who thinks nobody knows and then one day ilyukhina is just like 'hey grace did we meet aliens up in space the first time you did this?' and hes like 'oh yea totally, rockys great... hey WAIT A MINUTE?'
Simon is absolutely pulling some "I can fix that" shit on the hail mary and he hasn't even seen holes he just does that all on his own and it drives grace crazyyyy
