as much as she wanted to tell the truth, she didn’t. “because- i was just worried you guys would hate me for it.” lola cleared her throat, albeit unconvincingly. “and it made things kinda totally weird between us for a little bit, but, like, i think they’re getting better. he’s just, uhm, like, constantly convinced he’s gonna hurt me, or ruin everything, or something. it’s not easy to fight against his negative automatic thoughts.”
“we would never hate you, lo. maybe be a little worried, but we couldn’t hate you,” shay said, quickly. by lola’s tone, she wondered if she was getting the full story. but she didn’t want to push. “they’re getting better?” she asked, a little skeptical. “well, if things get better will you be able to handle all of that on top of frankie’s reaction if you guys start dating or something?” shay questioned. she didn’t want to make lola feel bad, but that would be a lot to deal with.
