This flag is merely a suggestion. You do not have to use it if you do not want to.

Due to recent, now sourced, revelations, I thought creating a flag for those uncomfortable with the other one to use was a good idea. My last one did not go over well, so I assembled a team of aromantics, asexuals, and aroaces to help me, an asexual lesbian, create an alternative, better flag proposal.

If you have any criticisms, bring them up with me by ask or private message. I will not respond to criticism on this post, as I do not think it is fitting for a positive post to have discourse or negative comments on it.

I ran this flag through multiple colorblindness simulators, so it should be accessible to all. To be safe, I included audio description text for blind people who use speech-to-text.

So basically, our flag is shit and it was made based on something by a shit person

Longer explanation: the flag is based on this design made by David Jay from AVEN:

The upside down triangle is gross appropriation of antisemitic imagery, and the colors were obviously the basis for the ace flag

There's also the fact that David Jay is a massive homophobe

Having a flag based on something like this isolates many members of the ace community, and it needs to be replaced sooner rather than later

I'm not great at coming up with designs, though, so the most I can do is get this information out there

David Jay only proposed the purple part of the design, not the rest of it

Jewish Ace people that had concerns with the design were shadowbanned on AVEN and their threads were locked, and nazi apologist threads were still left up

While this was mostly in the early 2010s, I havent heard of any signs of improvement

i see a lot of people saying “yeah, but i like the current flag” -- which is nice, but at the same time, it’s important to consider the safety and inclusion of those who are affected by David Jay’s appropriation and beliefs. it’s okay to like the current flag, but you need to consider the feelings and wellbeing of Jewish people here. i couldn’t use this flag again in good faith knowing that it takes imagery from another minority’s suffering and appropriates it, intentional or not. 

it can be easy to overlook if you aren’t affected by antise/mitism or hom/ophobia, yes -- but it’s very important that we consider the Jewish folks in our community and their safety as well.

Since you said you’d try to redesign and learn from your mistakes: Please consider doing some research into the full range of aspec experiences. I have interacted with people who are aplatonic that would be excluded by your yellow stripe. I am aroace and was excluded by your red stripe. There are aces who are sex positive and sex repulsed and all kinds of things.

I know this. I was simply trying to make a simple flag that was inclusive of all experiences, and I now know I failed. I will try to be more respectful and inclusive the second time around. 

However, I will not cater the next ace flag exclusively to aro aces. Allo aces are included as well. I am getting rid of the romantic and platonic stripes, but you need to realize that not everyone can be catered to. I didn’t include sexual themes because that would be alienating to sex-repulsed or people who just aren’t comfortable having a stripe related to sex on their flag.

I will not make the flag specific this time. Do not assume I am ignorant.
