In case anyone is baffled by this, there’s a Tchaikovsky piece in which there’s supposed to be a loud sound but he never specified what you should use to make that sound. People have done all kinds of weird shit depending on how they think the sound should, well, sound. Hitting a large piece of wood with a sledgehammer is a relatively conventional one.
Ah look, it’s back. The post that’s wrong and makes me actually want to talk about music history.
A) This piece is not Tchaikovsky, it’s called Ricochet (Ping Pong Concerto) by Andy Akiho
B) Tchaikovsky has some unconventional percussion in the 1812 Overture, but it explicitly calls for an actual literal battery of cannons. It’s often creatively replaced by conductors because not all performance halls and/or educational establishments condone the use of an actual literal battery of cannons.
C) The piece that requires unspecified percussion is Mahler’s 6th Symphony, which calls for a sound that is “brief and mighty, but dull in resonance and with a non-metallic character (like the fall of an axe).” This is usually translated as “Take a huge-ass hammer and hit a huge-ass block of wood with it.”

btw if you live in the midwest (a region where a lot of the states are going to have trigger laws or ban abortion completely it looks like) and if it’s possible that you can leave ur state, get to illinois. Illinois isn’t just a state where abortion is permitted, in illinois abortion is strictly a protected right. illinois’ right to abortion is permanent and isn’t going to be changed anytime soon. in illinois your abortion rights are completely confidential. illinois is one of the easiest states to access abortion in and the process is fairly simple, and it’s going to always be legal to do so even as the right to abortion is overturned in other states. it’s very much a safe haven to anyone who needs to flee their state right now. if anyone can provide any resources and links that would be greatly appreciated.

Just to mention it, as I’m sure others have, as of 6/1/2022 all minors can get an abortion in Illinois without parental consent or parental notification (previously, you had to get a court order to skip the notification). Also, Midwest Access Coalition is a group dedicated to providing funds to those who need to travel here to get an abortion. Please do pass this info on to anyone who may need it.

The post I never wanted to make...
It's been a long time coming, but I'm saying goodbye to SessKag writing for now. I honestly don't know if I'll go back to it. Maybe. But fanfiction right now isn't the break from life that it was when I began writing again in 2019 and contributes more stress than relaxation and fun now, and I really just can't keep up with what is added stress in my life anymore. So, I need to move on.
It truly does grieve me to make this decision. I have a lot of great memories and met a lot of great people. I cannot adequately say how much I appreciate the dedicated readers I've had and how sorry I am that some stories will be left hanging. But in the end, a lot of not-so-great stuff that happens behind the scenes that I've not publicly spoken of in this fandom has sucked the fun right out of it.
I still love SessKag, but I can't justify dedicating the amount of time to it that I have anymore. But thank you for the time I got to share with you all. You remain in my heart, and I'll still be around Tumblr for now and over on Discord.
Before I go, I want to leave a couple thoughts. SessKag has always been such a strong, supportive community. When I came back into it in 2019 after being out of the IY fandom in general for a decade, I couldn't have found a stronger community.
But a lot of that has changed. YH bears some blame for that, but it is not solely responsible. And I know I'm not the only one who misses "how things used to be" and not the only one who notices the differences. I note this to say to those who have experienced the same that I see you, and your feelings are valid. And I hope one day we can see the same enthusiasm and support we used to without the drama and, for lack of a better term, mean girl crap that has come in the last couple of years.
In the meantime, I want to highly encourage everyone who loves this fandom to support The Pink Moon Observatory. Link is here as well as on my Tumblr. Any fandom is always going to be a community project, and keeping a fandom from dying requires community support. Not just artists. Not just writers. Not just readers. It takes a village, as they say. It takes a willingness to progress and stay current. And while the Pink Moon Observatory is still in its infancy, I will personally attest to it being championed by a lot of great people in the SessKag community who are dedicated to seeing it flourish again.
I truly do hope the rest of you continue to enjoy things as you always have. I hope that one day I feel differently again and can come back to things. But for my own personal well-being, it's time I take a step back from writing. Love and appreciate you all. You can always reach me through my inbox. <3 ~Dross
