Visual exhaustion is another symptom of ADHD, which means that if we see something enough times (or we see enough instances of something), it fades into background noise and we fail to notice it. This is why a lot of ADHD people can stand living surrounded by mess/clutter, because it’s just visual background noise to us. We don’t even notice it anymore. So if we write something down and see the note stuck up somewhere a lot – or if we write a LOT of somethings down and have a lot of notes hanging around – then we’re even less likely to think of/remember the thing because it’s just part of the scenery now. ADHD is the Catch-22 of brains.

All of this.  I imagine being a smarter than average fundie dude - which I think Josiah is - would make you have at least a moment of OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT when you realize that you’re being catapulted straight from being taken care of by your parents to being required to support yourself and a wife immediately (plus likely a child very soon).  

Though I do wonder if that’s the case why he wanted to get married six months after entering a courtship.  Was he that afraid she would bail on him?  Was someone else applying pressure?  Maybe I’m just reading him wrong and he’s as foolhardy as the rest of them.

As for his becoming less flamboyant, I don’t think we need to think too hard about why that is.

The sum total of the above pro-choicer’s argument is ‘I’m going to do whatever the heck I want to do and hang the consequences.’  The birth control doesn’t work argument is nonsense. If birth control didn’t work every brothel would have its own built in abortion clinic and every couple would have a battalion of children.  Contrary to what some men think, preventing an unwanted pregnancy isn’t only the woman’s responsibility; both partners can use preventive measures.

1. Birth control DOES work; however, it does not work 100% of the time. Condoms break, pills are taken at the wrong time, etc. It works about 97% of the time approximately (at least for condoms; the rates may be different for other methods). That is what I think motherbychoice was trying to get at, although she could have phrased it as, “birth control does fail” or “birth control sometimes fails.” 

2. Tovag is correct that both men and women should bear responsibility for prevention. Proper sex education, including taking preventative measures is what ultimately reduces abortion - NOT abstinence-only methods. That said, it is OK to abstain should one choose to do so. It is not that abstinence does not work; it is that abstinence-ONLY does not work - key word being “only.”

3. Conservativeamerican’s argument about pro-choicers’ immortality because they want to keep having sex FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE WOMEN WHO GET PREGNANT WHEN THEY ARE RAPED. They didn’t want to have sex then and yet they get pregnant. Not an issue of immortality, at least for the victim. 

4. PRO-CHOICE DOES NOT EQUAL PRO-ABORTION. 

5. To deny a woman’s right to choose, you’re making the assumption that life here on earth is better than existence in heaven. 

6. One can be morally pro-life and legally pro-choice. For example, you would want to do whatever you can do provide education and preventative measures for individuals/couples who are not ready to have children, but you also recognize that there would be many more unsafe abortions in a world where abortion was illegal and individuals only had access to abstinence-only measures. Women who are desperate enough are not going to stop having abortions just because it is illegal. It is the same argument as to why access to firearms should not be made illegal.

7. Southparkconservative, I don’t know if any pro-choice proponents who advocate for abortion at the point where the fetus is viable (i.e., about 24 weeks or so or beyond). Doesn’t mean they are not out there but we just have not heard from them.

I feel really bad for Josh. I think he had curiosity about the woman body, the differences between men and women bodies, so he touched her sisters. Then he noticed what he was doing was a sexual behaviour so he felt guilty and he told it to his parents. He was not a sexual predator, just a kid who wanted learn things by himself and maked a mistake.

JB and Michelle can be blamed for how they handled Josh’s indiscretions, but given the following facts:

1. He was 14 years old.

2. He touched 5-year-old Joy Anna while being the age of 14 (and yet, he didn’t touch Jana, who was closest to him in age).

3. No other Duggar sons, to our knowledge, have committed any similar indiscretions. Meaning that the desire to do what he did was all Josh.

Tells me that this is more than just a little misunderstanding and curiosity.

I mean I would give Josh a little more slack if he:

1. Had touched his sisters out of curiosity when he was like 4 or 5.

2. Had touched a similar-aged non-related female who he thought liked him in that way, while he was a teenager, especially if she said “no” and he stopped.

I would also blame JB and Michelle more than Josh if it turned out that multiple Duggar sons behaved similarly. Especially JD since he was close to Josh in age where he could have had urges before JB and Michelle instituted the safeguards.

So far, the Duggar Daughters—i.e., natural–born Duggars, not In–Laws—who’ve said “I do,” did so at an average of 21.88 Years old.  (Note—The Predictor does not rely on average age at marriage, and it doesn’t exclude In–Laws in this way.) With her DOB of January 12, 1990, Jana was that age on 12–1–11—but that’s a Thursday, so let’s put her hypothetical wedding on December 2, 2011.

Since you didn’t specify, I’m going to predict her reproductive habits using the Predictor’s normal rules—

Child #1 arrives 327 Days after the wedding  (Average to Child #1).

Subsequent child are spaced 475 Days apart  (Average Spacing).

Doing the math, Jana would’ve had Child #1 on October 24, 2012, making him or her GrandDuggar #3—after Michael (b. 6–15–11), but before Marcus (b. 6–2–13).  On average, Duggars wait until they’re 94 Days (13ish Weeks) along before announcing pregnancies; if Jana did so, she would have announced on April 21, 2012.
