another thing I really like about Catra (and spop in general) was how similar her body type is to mine. there's no shortage of small, thin women in fiction or animation in particular, but I appreciated that like me, Catra is wirey. she's surprisingly strong and has some visible muscle to her. and she's not afraid to be downright vicious in battle, despite her stature. in fact, she uses her small frame to her advantage, darting around enemies and landing quick blows, strategizing each move. but once she's grabbed by a larger opponent, she's fucked (unless she has another trick up her sleeve). which is just sooo accurate to the fights I got in as a kid. it's an added layer of accuracy that helps the show feel grounded

same with Mermista having wider shoulders, smaller hips, and long powerful legs, which is a figure that many of the best athletes on my swim team had. very fitting for an ocean princess who spends a lot of time in the water. Spineralla too has a body type that a few ballerinas I knew have, and Glimmer's strong, solid stature makes perfect sense for someone who blasts powerful magic without being knocked back

and now I'm remembering those dumbass arguments about the body diversity in spop, a la "how can they be athletic warriors and fat >:(((" sir (as most of the people with this complaint were men), it seems you do not know much about the human body. some of the strongest, most athletic people I know are fat. they hit the gym far more often than my lazy ass. aesthetic isn't the only consideration when it comes to health and athleticism. people train for different things and they don't owe you an explanation of their goals

besides the practical explanations, having body diversity in a show targeted at kids, pre-teens, and teens is objectively a positive thing. for one, people just like to see characters who look like them in stories. it makes them feel seen and included in the world! just like how I feel about Catra :) for two (lol), showing young people that all these body types exist and normalizing them within the story helps combat the awful body standards we're all fed at a formative time in life. it's a small thing, sure, but if even one kid is saved from hating their body, it's worth it

Catra FINALLY let Sparkles brush her hair, only today though. Adora loves them so much, apparently.

Everyone was wearing sunglasses, it looked like they were straight from the Matrix, but like, candy version. It was too bright and too cloudy. Either they were too emotional, having an eyestrain or the allergies were starting to act up. The point is, no dry eyes that day.

She’s the reason why. Absolutely RELENTLESS

since we’re giving some glimbow takes. don’t get me wrong i think the common theme of “hey, i actually meant that I Love You romantically” in glimbow post canon content is adorable but also. i think the deep meaning of glimmer saying I Love You, I Love You and saying it twice is to convey to bow, who knows her better than anyone, that romance is her intention. and i that they both pick up on that in the moment. and that bow’s response is romantic as well.

cause these are two best friends who have said i love you platonically like. half a million times so glimmer’s inflection and repetition is a telltale sign of something deeper and since bow speaks the same language, he immediately comprehends it and they’re on the same page

Don’t know how much this adds to the initial post but I just want to say how pure and soft Bow’s kiss on Glimmer’s forehead is?? Like, it’s not just a kiss on the forehead- a kiss that anyone can give in any manner (platonic or otherwise), but it’s a kiss full of “I understand”. It’s a kiss full of “I reciprocate”. It’s a kiss of, “I want you,” “you’re the one for me,” “we will get through whatever hurdles come our way”. But it’s not so abrasive and on-the-spur-of-the-moment, either. It’s in this way that isn’t intrusive or “act now, think later”. It’s so subtle, so soft, so warm, so full of intention and deeply-rooted truths. I don’t think I’ll ever not cry out how much of a missed opportunity a glimbow kiss is, but the kiss that we do get is just so… romantic.

Post post thought: really they may be a cliche trope but they didn’t become canon in a cliche way and if nobody understands that, at least they do. Like people can cry “platonic” all they want but there’s something so natural about the way Glimmer can admit her romantic desire in a way that Bow understands and Bow can answer back in a language Glimmer will understand. Like no one else has to get it and I think that’s beautiful.
