New Account!

I got to work making a new account recently so that I could make my art blog my main and finally stop fighting with tumblr's shitty "no you can't just change it manually with a simple button click or with anything in the settings and no you can't just back up your sideblogs and re-upload them to tumblr again so you don't lose them" system.

I'm losing both my fandom and Inspo blogs in this process and it sucks but I just need to give having my art blog as my main a try. I've lowkey been wanting to do it for years due to how old and cluttered this account is (I've had it since I was 14 and have made a complete mess of it thatI dont think I can fix unfortunately) and I don't wanna stay stagnant just so I don't lose what I've already done. Maybe if tumblr fixes its shit and actually makes exporting our blogs have a functional purpose, or allows us to change which blog is our main, then maybe I'll come back to using this one. But until then, I just can't cope with the mess I've made of this account any longer and I need to try restarting.

Fandom Problem #12,488:

as a woman, I'm really sick of the "good for her" and "she became boring once she became a wife/mother/whatever" narrative that people are trying to throw into stories anymore, or that the fandom tries to feed us if the book/movie/show doesn't give us that narrative.

I hate that most retellings of centuries-old works have to be feminist, and openly so; I can hardly find a piece that focuses on the men in a healthy way, or that doesn't give them other attributes that were never there in the first place just to make them marketable to a modern American audience.

I hate that most television enthusiasts claim that the worst thing that happened to the fun-loving, carefree female character was that she accidentally got pregnant, CHOSE TO KEEP THE KID, and stayed in a loving, happy relationship. yes, some television makes the characters boring after they have a kid (see also: season ten erica goldberg), and that's not fair to them. women can still be fun and interesting after having kids, whether or not tv markets it that way and makes fans believe it's the only way to be cool.

I hate that "women's wrongs" is a thing we are supporting, encouraging even, to the point where anytime a man so much as has a slight freudian slip, fans root for the female to divorce/hurt/kill him, unless he happens to be just sexy, cute, or angsty enough that tumblr goes fucking ballistic anytime someone says anything bad about him.

I am proud to be a woman, and proud of what I am able to do now thanks to the feminist movements of the past. But just because I'm happy I can work, wear pants, and vote, doesn't mean that I want or need modern feminism spoon-fed to me and consequently shoved down my throat. not all men are good, but just about every single man I have ever met has been so much better than women paint them to be. treat them that way, even in fiction. not all moms are fun, but no woman fully loses her whole personality just because she has a baby. sometimes, it grounds a person better than anything else ever has. other times, it was the exact piece she was missing all of her life. motherhood is not for everyone, but it's not equivalent to death as many people seem to believe.

OH MY GODS!!!!!!!! That's the artist! I looked him up and I FOUND THE POSTER! I've been looking for this for DECADES! My mom destroyed it in like 1992, and I could never even find anything *about* it! I've searched for it every few years forever, but without an artist name I never found anything, just completely unrelated pictures.

Those last two images are by a different artist, Sue Dawe! She's created a ton of amazing unicorn images. I have a poster of hers titled "Hanging Out in Horton Plaza" that features a zebra unicorn.

Encouragment for writers that I know seems discouraging at first but I promise it’s motivational-

• Those emotioal scenes you’ve planned will never be as good on page as they are in your head. To YOU. Your audience, however, is eating it up. Just because you can’t articulate the emotion of a scene to your satisfaction doesn’t mean it’s not impacting the reader. 

• Sometimes a sentence, a paragraph, or even a whole scene will not be salvagable. Either it wasn’t necessary to the story to begin with, or you can put it to the side and re-write it later, but for now it’s gotta go. It doesn’t make you a bad writer to have to trim, it makes you a good writer to know to trim.

• There are several stories just like yours. And that’s okay, there’s no story in existence of completely original concepts. What makes your story “original” is that it’s yours. No one else can write your story the way you can.

• You have writing weaknesses. Everyone does. But don’t accept your writing weaknesses as unchanging facts about yourself. Don’t be content with being crap at description, dialogue, world building, etc. Writers that are comfortable being crap at things won’t improve, and that’s not you. It’s going to burn, but work that muscle. I promise you’ll like the outcome.
