GNC liberation must happen. In many countries being gnc is a crime, toppled by the explicit erasure of trans existence. GNC people are removed from consideration within the LGBTQIA+ coummunity. We are much more likely to be targetted by both our governments and local community.
This video is a perfect model of how conservative society views GNC men, one of the less extreme cases where a man simply speaks talks about makeup of all issues.
This is GNCphobia. More specifcally, Cuphobia, the bigotry against GNC men and extreme femininity.
"The Gendered Line" as I call it exists to keep women subjugated, support bioessentialism, and perserve the social institution of opression. Abrahamic religion doesn't predate GNCphobia, it only codified preestablished social prejudice into a piece of text that'd inform laws to supress us.
In these times Gncphobia as bigotry and institution are seperate, yet ollaborating alongside transphobia. The most vulnerable is GNC Trans Women and Men even in the most accepting queer spaces. GNC women are just 'men', yet trans men aren't. Other trans men call their feminine brothers 'women'. Our understanding of gender and allinity is purposefully piss poor.
In feminist circles, queer ubcultures, school, work, education, income, GNC people always get the shorter end of the stick in comparison to their GC counterparts.
GNC liberation starts by looking at your gender, and standing up as who you are as a genderqueer person first. Prioritizing the complete deconstruction of misogyny from presentation and identity and being proud of who you are.
If you guys thought I was only being annoying, this is what people are saying GNC trans men. Alot of these posts coming from other trans people.
Most of this logic isn't true, as most GNC trans men are still on T (like me). It's completly ridiculous that trans men are constantly attacked. Transphobia and Cuphobia combined.
This is absolutely disgusting. Transcuphobia would be the right term for this, right? The images also exude so much misogyny and femphobia...just eughhh.
Reminder that anyone can have bottom dysphoria. A woman with a penis can be a trans or cis, or intersex, but still a woman. A man with a vagina can still be trans, cis or intersex. Shout out to altersexism! Genitals have no inherit gender.
Recently, I've noticed an upsurge in fraudulent scammers/bots pretending to be Palestinian and asking for donations. What's really interesting is that these scammers/bots generally target blogs that are active, post frequently and get a lot of engagement. So, if you've been inactive or on hiatus for a while, you may feel that the Palestinian bot problem has subsided and the worthless Tumblr @staff has done something about it. But in reality, it seems these scammers/bots actively seek out blogs that are regularly posting and interacting with other blogs. I'm speaking from personal experience. Until last December, I wasn't too active here on Tumblr; I just lurked and scrolled. Back then, I didn't receive any asks, comments or DMs from scammers/bots. I genuinely thought the bots had been exterminated. But ever since I started posting again, (around the beginning of this month) I've been receiving 5+ DMs and asks almost every day from scammers/bots. Some of them are anonymous. Most of them are pretending to be the same person with different blogs and usernames, copying and pasting almost identical ChatGPT-sounding messages pleading for donations. They're also tagging me in the replies of random posts I've never interacted with. I'd like to request y'all NOT TO FALL FOR THESE BOTS/SCAMMERS. They may seem like actual, real people but THEY ARE NOT. Multiple bloggers have already debunked and exposed these scammers/bots. So PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE INTERACTING WITH THESE FRAUDULENT BLOGS AND THINK TWICE BEFORE DONATING. ALWAYS VERIFY THE BACKGROUND AND CREDENTIALS OF THE BLOGS ASKING FOR DONATIONS.
I'd like to make it clear that I WILL NOT BE INTERACTING WITH/DONATING TO ANY BLOG THAT SENDS ME ASKS, DMs, AND TAGS ME IN RANDOM POSTS. I WILL BE REBLOGGING ONLY VERIFIED, PEER-REVIEWED POSTS WHICH HAVE COMPILED A LIST OF VETTED BLOGS AND DONATION REQUESTS. ANY ASKS, DMs AND REPLIES TAGGING ME WILL BE DELETED, BLOCKED AND REPORTED.
Idk why you posted this when it is an entirely different sexuality 😭 + it's an umbrella term including bi/pan folks. GNC people don't operate under the same rules because we're...gender-non-conforming. It's all queer from here!!
Maybe it’s the toxic evil vizier Mollie in me but I love the idea of like, playing the role of “Lady Macbeth” as a sort of semi-toxic hype-man for a Virago partner? Being the voice in their ear encouraging them to take what they want in that way they’ve been denied for so long. I did not choose a fool for a partner, after all. They are so clearly the smartest, the most capable, the most driven; the most deserving in every way. Others must be deluded to not see what my eyes see, but together we will show them...
It’s only natural then that I lean in with hushed tones, conspiring with my dear partner for their success, to hell with the ethics of it. “We both know you are the smartest person in that room, the hardest working; you deserve that promotion more than any of the rest of them. Show them why they would be fools to overlook you! Claim what you deserve!”
There’s just something so cathartic about giving voice to that anger we both feel about the injustice of a heteronormative world. Channeling that anger that sits under the surface burning away without a release, and giving it one at long last. “Let that fire cleanse you of your doubt! Let your anger burn away the babbling of sexblinded fools! They fear you because they see how categorically you outclass them! Make them rue their spite.”
But that anger wouldn’t be inflamed blindly. It’s precise. Planned.
Going out clothes shopping with them; “this suit accentuates your shoulders, but choose a darker color. We want your presence to make them falter before you even speak.”
Studying their opponents, maybe using a little subterfuge if needed; “I overheard that one in the red has been filing his reports incorrectly for the last three months, if he speaks against you, shred his credibility with his own failures.”
Lovingly stroking their ego; “They respect your confidence, my love. When you take charge people trust you, they can sense your capability; the thought you put into your actions, the care you take when dealing with others. All the markings of a good leader...” Prideful words whispered lovingly. Nothing untrue, of course, but trimmed of any unwarranted humility or doubt. Those self-sabotaging nitpicks are nothing but the remnants of others’ ignorance, unworthy of consideration.
And finally, at long last when their hard work and dedication pays off; when they finally claim that position they’ve been wanting for so long… Not a single soul could fail to see who belongs in that chair. And oh how proud I would be to sit beside them. To see them flourish, crowned and resplendent. A good consort loves to see his king stand tall, and I am far better than “good.” The best only deserve the best, after all.
What are your thoughts on what 'counts' as gnc? Are there ways to be gnc outside of appearance in your opinion? Specifically with more feminine men as male gender roles are currently somewhat stricter than women's (it is normalised for women to wear pants but not for men to wear skirts or dresses). Is it ok to call a man feminine even if he conforms to outside appearance-based expectations of gender, on the basis that he has more traditionally 'feminine' mannerisms/traits? Or is that just reinforcing the "weak, dainty, submissive" = feminine and "tough, strong, dominant" = masculine dichotomy? Sorry if this is confusing
First off, hate to break it to you, women not wearing pants all throught history isn't as accurate as you might think.
I love Nicole Rudolph, she's a great fashion historian who talks about it a little here. She makes great content (shameless, unsponsored plug)
So you're wondering what 'counts' as GNC, huh? If you don't feel like reading, GNC is both an internal identity and external representation of an identity. I will tell you that arbitrarily 'assigning' GNC 'traits' to someone otherwise not GNC by any context, isn't the way to go about things as it can easily slip back into Cuphobic/Misogynistic sentiment.
"Is it ok to call a man feminine even if he conforms to outside appearance-based expectations of gender, on the basis that he has more traditionally 'feminine' mannerisms/traits?"
Not the wisest idea, no.... While there are gendered actions, linguistics, speech patterns, and mannerisms that are feminine in regular and queer context, most of the time, it's misplaced to talk about...not feminine people. Cuphobia (The fear, polarization, and bigotry of feminine men) informs the very low threshold for femininity in men. Because if men absolutely aren't able to become feminine, touching it even slightly "counts". This can easily go wrong with our logic where men who do not identify with femininity can be maliciously labeled as 'masculine' for simply doing a certain action that doesn't fit the hypermasculine (and patriarchally informed) presentation politics of manhood. This isn't to say mannerisms cannot reflect an internal identity, just be careful calling them as such.
"Now then, what would you count as GNC?"
Again, this is highly dependent on cultural context and using discernment. Although I'm certain different subsets of HetGNC queers exist all around the world, Chances are if you're reading this, you live in a euro-colonial/western influenced society. So we'll be talking from that perspective. From this point on, I'll use the term 'gender quality' to communicate a person's gender and it's Alinity. (ex: masculine woman/intramasc woman). See Allinity model:
When identifying a GNC person, it's best to get a little bit of everything. Presentation, Internal Identification, and maybe relational identity. At the end of the day, all roads lead back to identity, everything else is conduits for expression, which feeds back to strengthen an identity. From an outside perspective the most confident evidence to gain is both presentation and expression. If you don't know someone, visual language is the another way strangers communicate an identity.
The Presentation Problem
Let's talk about it!
I've noticed that a significant number of members within our community experience shame, confusion, and frustration regarding body types, clothing presentation, and accurate representation. This tension created a subtle divide. On one side, our presenting community members feel it's unfair for 'closeted' individuals to claim or insert themselves into characters, archetypes, and tropes that do not reflect their lived, material realities. Conversely, the other half of the community feels insecure about stepping into their authentic selves within a society that actively dislikes them; consequently, they rely on finding small, subtle ways to latch onto representation. There, of course, are others who take note of the scarcity of true representation, then take it upon themselves to headcanon.
I feel we all agree o what prsentation for GNC people generally look like for Mollis & Virago. The issue arises when a straight gender-conforming character or gender-conforming body types are labeled a Virago/Mollis, causing...community-wide dysphoria. A direct solution to this issue isn't to avoid the conversations, but to have them...even if it can get a little ugly. Gender Non-conformity doesn't just look one way! but... we have to be aknowledge there is still always lies a consensus on what is Gender Conforming and these people get visibility and priority over us.
In the long run, even if it gets hetic, it'd be healthy we have uncomfortable conversations now, rather than later!
Before knowing the history of tomboy I was fine being called it...then I learned it was coined to push young gender conforming white women to become athletic so they could create "healthy white babies" and it was expected they'd eventually fall back into femininity? It never was for actual masculine women...the expectation was always to rape and convert masculine women, or ensure gender conforming women eventually stay in line.
"Why don't you call yourselves tomboys?"
It's term stems to support the Great Replacement Myth.
