day 24 - Golden Weapon

A headcanon for Nya's golden weapon, i present you the Whip of Waves :D

I’m so disappointed kai is headcanon as cis the most by the fandom when he

- has a gender neutral name

- changes his name from ash to Kai

- in the comics said the reason he kept wearing his gi when he went back to the blacksmith shop after the pilots was “because it’s comfortable” ((literally the ninja equivalent to a middle school kid wearing the same hoodie everyday))

- knows how to use make up to change his appearance ((when he burned his eyebrows off))

- do you think someone who uses as much hair gel for a ridiculous yet charming hairstyle would be cis?

On today’s episode of interesting Kai Smith Contradictions:

Kai is, in fact, incredibly selfish. But he shows it in (for the most part) non selfish ways.

His ‘selfless’ desire to protect is entirely rooted in selfish interests

It’s his desire to protect/save those he cares about that fuels him. He’s been shown to be willing to sacrifice missions and others he cares less about to try and save those he cares about.

So Kai really isn’t the selfless hero. Not at all. He cares about his family and his friends, and his interest in protecting Ninjago lie only in helping to protect them

So yeah. Kai is selfish. But that’s okay. After everything he’s been through, he deserves it

Okay I thought about this post in particular for a bit

And I think I agree

Kai is a selfish HERO but I don’t think he’s a selfish friend like how the show portray seems to mostly say he is

While his interest to help his friends is selfish and very much rooted in co dependency he seems to mostly willing to sacrifice everything *he* has ((even if that includes a mission)) to make them happy. He does care about his friends in ways they don’t really care about eachother. If Kai was a selfish friend he would be doing it in an attempt to get an advantage or gain something, and most of what Kai does is the opposite. Giving away what little he has even if it hurts him

After all the others have shown to be much more selfish in terms of being hero and friends ((jay, Nya, and Lloyd seem to be the biggest examples))

But to add onto your last part, I do kinda want to see kais selfish hero perspective clash with the perspectives of the others

The others ((I think atleast)) are selfless hero’s but selfish friends, and often times them being hero’s is a result of wu himself being selfish

Seeing kai actually go “I’ve been through so much shit I think I deserve to care about myself for once instead of ninjago” would be really interesting in show and I’d love to see the morality of that debate
