Differently from Anime, Seto did not see the last duel of Atem and Yugi. He is waiting for Atem to come back from the underground. Seto believed his victory. However, he never appears. Instead of him, YUGI does show up.

The creator Kazuki does not depict any furthur scenes after the last duel, so I was thinking about what Seto shall think when he sees Yugi showing up. Imagine, if Yugi got to tell Seto that Atem is gone, that should ve torture to both of them.

If Seto could be at the last duel, or, at least had a chance to say goodbye to Atem, it could be a different story from DSOD.

I wish to draw the another story of Seto and Ishizu and depict the excavation of the millenuim puzzle. And also how Seto knows Atem’s name.

But tbh this is not an official art thing only, but also in the fandom (even though official art probably fuels this kind of mentality). Because I’ve seen so many posts talking about “Yugi” and I’m always like: “Yeah, Yugi, as in Yugi Mutou™, the little cute one, the one who lives with his grandpa above a game store, the one who completed the millennium puzzle, the one whose name is in the title” and then they put a pic of Atem there and actually were talking about Atem the whole time.

Nope, in these cases it truly was just a pic of Atem, but they refer to him as Yugi. And if people draw adult!Yugi exactly like Atem looks like (who also is a 16 - 18 year old boy) then they did not draw Yugi as an adult, but just Atem.

As funny as this line is it does have a lot of basis in the story, whether it’s hallucinations Kaiba experienced himself, visions others forcibly made him see, or both. (Granted, a lot of other duelists have that happen too…Maybe it’s just a YGO thing XD)
