For whatever reason, my mother really wants me to move to the UK (weāre Canadian) to try and work there. (There are definitely more theatre jobs out there however sheās been suggesting this long before she knew that piece of information)
The other day she said to me āyou know if you ever decided to go work out there, even for a short time, your dad and I would probably come with you. Veronica (my sister) would could get work out there too!ā
Never mind that she had never spoken to my father or sister about this, or that my sister has a long term boyfriend who lives here, or that my sister and I have never been to the UK, etc.
Told my dad about this later and he found it hilarious because genuinely what the hell.
My mother also is constantly trying to drag my father on vacations they cannot afford especially this close to retirement and he has to keep reminding her that they do not have endless money because sheās a teacher and he makes less than her.
My mother who by the way, is constantly telling me not to spend money and then immediately after will send me links to online shops I would like lmao.
My mother will also constantly tell me my sister of plans we as a family have, despite the fact that my sister lives two hours away at school, and then not tell me of said plans that I am actually meant to be involved in since I live with her, and then the day of the plans will arrive and Iāll say āyou never told me about thisā and sheāll say āyes I didā and Iāll say āIām quite sure u didnātā and sheāll respond with āwell I told someone. You should know about this.ā
I donāt know if sheās aware that my sister and I do not share a brain.
HOWEVER, do not be fooled, my father is not the same one here. I think he has even less of a grasp on reality than she does.
My dad keeps insisting to me that one day the owners of the dance studio I āgraduatedā from will want to open a second location one day and that I should run it. Now, Iāve been a dancer my entire life, a competitive dancer at that, and now a musical theatre performer/choreographer. I have never once heard of a franchised dance studio. Ever. At least not around where I live. I could name you 5 million dance studios off the top of my head that Iāve heard of, attended, or competed against and not one of them has a second location no matter how good or profitable they are. (By the way dance studios are barely profitable) Dance studios donāt just open second locations like that for a myriad of reasons, all of which I tried to explain to my father, who despite the fact that he knows literally nothing about dance or theatre, and has never owned a business in his life, was entirely convinced I was wrong. That one day they WILL open a second location and itās so inevitable that I, a 22 year old with a bachelorās degree in MUSICAL THEATRE, and no business experience or interest whatsoever, should start floating the idea of being the one to manage it to two people I no longer work for.
After my dad found out how much money a certain relative left me when they passed, he started floating the idea of me one day opening up my own dance studio one day, where we could work after he retires. Which is not a terrible idea but not something Iād do anywhere in the near future. I also kept trying to redirect the conversation into saying maybe Iād open a theatre company instead which he absolutely ignored. Less than 48 hours after this conversation, he came into my room to tell me that a friend of his has a client whoās sons are the owner of a dance studio in the United States and theyāve apparently worked with big name pop stars. He told me that either now or one day I should ask said friend for the contact of these two men and network with them. No word of talking yo the two women I know in my own city who own a dance studio that I used to work and dance at. Why would I ask them for advice? No I should ask these two men whose names I donāt even know how to open up a studio in a different country then where they did it. Surely thatās a better idea.
