how does Shadow feel about water?

He's better about it than Sonic since they often bathed him in water on the ARK (even though hedgehogs should not be getting wet) but no amount of baths taught him how to swim, so he tends to avoid water outside the shallow Chao Garden ponds.

Anything too deep and this boy would ✨️ freakin drown ✨️

Congrats, this isn't true at all anymore! Shadow knows how to swim because they made him learn on the ARK. He has a very formal and professional swimming style- not very loose or fun.

Whether he actually likes swimming is another matter entirely. (He does not.)

"We need food," he retorted calmly, pulling on the jacket they'd bought in about his size as soon as the temperature dropped. "I'll be fine." Underneath that was a sweater, and under that were some pants; not to mention the red scarf wrapped snugly over his muzzle. No hat, but he'd probably poke holes in any hat he tried to wear anyway.

Shadow was about to duck out of the hideout and into the street when something finally clicked in his brain and he paused.

"...Wasn't there a song like that?" He asked, muffled by the thick red fabric. "Was that a reference?"

Deciding Factor

What purpose the Baron originally had in being outside all those years ago didn't matter; not in comparison to what he would end up finding that night.

Or rather, who.

Accompanied by nothing but the sounds of his own hooves, distant cars, and the occasional scuttle of pests, he silently moved through the shadows. He was wearing something a touch more subtle, lacking his helmet and those Gargoyles, though not without armor layered underneath. Not again. Never again.

The Baron stopped walking.

Standing boldly against the white noise was the sound of quiet, shuddering breaths, accompanied by little huffs and sniffs. He frowned, narrowing his eyes as he crept toward where he was decently sure the little sounds were coming from. Not as carefully as he could be, but careful enough for Baron Draxum.

Whatever was here couldn't possibly be all that dangerou-

"Achoo!"

The sound froze him in his tracks, just in time for a fuzzy little bundle of black and red fur to drag itself out from behind a discarded box. It was tiny - probably small enough to fit in the palm of his hand - to the point that if it weren't for its sneeze, the Baron probably would've missed its presence entirely. Maybe he even would have stepped on it.

"A Yokai…?" muttered Draxum, bending to get a better look at it, and as orange eyes locked with red, the shape in the shadows used its underdeveloped limbs to shuffle forward, seeming to be just as curious about him as he was about it. He reached toward it; it did not shy away.

It was just as easy to scoop the little thing up into his arms. It sat like it belonged there, gripping at him with tiny fingers tipped in even tinier claws, pressing itself into the warmth of a body bigger than itself. If he looked closely enough, he could see it shaking.

With no further comment aside from a contemplative hum, Baron Draxum turned on his heel and returned to his lab.
