Life was cruel. It could be extremely cruel, dolling out situations and circumstances left and right to people who either deserved it - or didn’t. Dealing death to those who should live forever, granting eternal life to those who should’ve perished ages ago. The Gods were cruel. Or, they were rather enjoying the game they had set up, Prompto decided this years ago. Fate was a funny thing. You never knew was it was going to bring you, never knew how it was going to affect your life, or those around you.
Even now, too far away to truly see what was happening, the water whipping across his vision making it even more difficult, Prompto could tell that something had happened, Ardyn hovering over Lady Lunafreya like some sort of bird of prey, on the hunt for their kill, “No – “ He called out, trying to reach her, or have Noctis reach her, someone needed to help - ! But his bullets would never reach. The wind would carry away his voice, or it was drowned out by the scream of the Leviathan, he wasn’t sure. Gods he wasn’t sure of a lot of things.
He wasn’t even sure that the voice, the one that quietly filled his ears was who he thought it could be. But he heard it nonetheless, or rather, which was probably more likely, he’d imagined it. The soft whisper of pain that felt like it was right next to him, so close he could almost feel a breath – or was that the wind?
‘I’m tired,’ The voice said.
Suddenly, everything he’d ever wanted to tell Lady Lunafreya was caught in his mind, held in his throat, on the back of his tongue, suddenly he was caught, transfixed with the knowledge that he might not EVER be able to tell her anything. Tell her how she helped him, how he took her words and befriended Noct, bettered himself. How he found something he loves and that he’s SUPER good at in the process, how incredible his life has become since growing closer with not only Noctis but Ignis and Gladio as well. He has friends now, people he’d do ANYTHING for, people he cares about more than anyone else in the whole world.
And it’s all because of her.
He scampered to his feet, trying to gauge some sort of way he could either get to her, or tell Noct what was happening, he knew he was distracted by, y’know, the giant GOD that was trying to kill him, and well that was super important, but he needed to get to Lady Lunafreya - she was the last piece of the puzzle. Without her then everything they had set out to do from Insomnia, before it fell, would be gone. King Regis’s last wishes, for Noct and Lady Luna to be together would crumble between their fingers. He had to do something, save it in anyway he could.
There was another screech from the Leviathan that caused a ringing in Prompto’s ear, a resurgence of power filling the air and jostling the debris that was already making it’s way around, throwing it to and fro. “Oh no –” The platform Prompto was in began to move, shift in it’s precariously held up position, “Nooo no no - !” He muttered, trying to find some grip on something to steady himself, to hold firm and not falter. Not now, stupid legs, stay strong NOW of all times, PLEASE - !
He threw his head up, trying to find Lady Lunafreya once more, trying to see what had happened to her, if she was okay. Only to see Noct down there with her, Prompto’s vision was obscured so he couldn’t see all that was happening, but just the simple fact that Noct was with Luna set his heart at ease - even a little. They were both moving, that much he could kinda tell, so maybe it was fine… . . Maybe they’d be fine.
