That was the first thing he said to the first person they saw. Blank faced and monotone, Masaaki was simply as emotionless as he could be. A stiff posture, clenched hands, and barely any outwardly feeling was conveyed. He didn't want to feel anymore. All he's felt between the small glimpses of hope was pain, pain, pain. Pain and misery and despair, he didn't want to feel it anymore. So he just blocked all of it out. No happiness, no sadness, no nothing. It was better to feel nothing than to suffer with sadness.
Nezumi Kurosawa. Innocent, and the somehow evil? But the two were friends. They'd talked, they'd investigated with each other. They were friends. And now, here she was, bleeding an dead against the wall. Her face filled with shock and confusion. She didn't deserve this. Even if she was some information broker or whatever. Nezumi didn't deserve to die this way.
Jeanne Sansaku. Sure, they had a rather nasty argument last trial regarding Momo. Sure, she was a huge jerk to everyone. But she still didn't deserve to die like that. It looked so painful, how she was strewn across the floor in a pool of blood. Why must people die young? He didn't want this anymore.
Two people dead. Two people dead. He was partially glad it wasn't Kenji or Mikhail. But no one deserved this anymore. No one deserved this pain, this despair. Was this the end of all the hope he had? Maybe it was. Maybe he was at his wits' end, and simply felt useless. Maybe he just didn't want to live through this anymore.
A collection of combustible devices usually used to celebrate special and festive occasions. Watch the colorful and “ooooh” and “aaaah: to your heart’s content.
That's all he could remember about that trial. Ai, his little sister who he'd mistreated for so long was dead. The cyclist wanted to take that bear and rip it in half. Utterly destroy it, tear it to pieces and crunch it under his feet. He wanted to kill Monokuma. Even if he were to die, he wanted that thing dead. He wanted it dead as can be. As dead as Kyo, Shinji, Momo, and Cecile were. There was nothing to hold him back anymore. Little frail wires of morals were all that was tied around his ankles and wrists. Common sense and self-preservation instinct strengthened the wires into ropes. Emotions and despair slowly sliced the ropes with a knife. A feeling of utter cold emotions swept over him. Or more accurately speaking, the emotions made it so he couldn't feel. His heartbeat slowed and his eyes looked blank. He was sitting outside. On the fountain's walls.
'Why are we even letting Masaaki-shi speak?'
'Upupu, I'll take care of that!'
'Silence is golden, duct tape is silver.'
Did they even care about him? His large ego and heroism would have usually debunked this. . . But now he really felt it. Idiot, stupid, worthless. Hero-wannabe, faker, liar. Was it true. He wanted to say no. He felt like he should say yes. It was true. He was no hero. Just a stupid kid. Who cared if he was strong? Who cared if he was happy? Everyone focused on the negatives. Was there really trust between anyone and him? Jeanne hated him now. He'd fought with her. He didn't even know if his bros still trusted him. What was left? He was alone now. His sister was gone, the person he could rely on for sure. She had has his back for so long. . .
Dead. There would be more people that would die, right? Everyone would die at some point in this place. Four people had died already. Who was to say there was an exit? That accursed bus, this accursed theater. . . This was were they all would die. There's no future anymore, is there? They. . . They should just all end it here. He should end it here. If Masaaki Yoshida shall die, it will be on his own terms. He looked towards the fountain. Wasn't drowning the least painful way to die? Or was it the most painful?
". . . I wonder. . ."
Masaaki stared at the water with a longing stare. He could end it. He could end it right now. He could die and be with Ai, tell her how sorry he was, hug her, never let her go. Be the brother he should. She'd bop him on the head like she always would and then they could laugh it off together. Together. They'd be happy together. The cyclist was always so focused on sports and his friends. . . He never valued Ai like he should have. And now it was too late to start. What kind of worthless brother was he? Horrid, that's what. He stared at the water. A dull noise of static filled his head. Ai's voice, he could hear it. That sweet sweet memory of when he last saw her. At the therapy clinic before he left for school.
'Ugh, you moron! You freakin' tripped trying to get over here!'
'Don't you know how hurt you could have gotten!'
'Your secret could have gotten out!'
'I love you, you idiot.'
That was new. He never remembered Ai saying that before. But. . . No, she did care about him, right? And Ai would have wanted him to be safe. Ai cared about him. People cared about him. He couldn't die. He made a promise to protect people. Someone, though he may not know who, cared about him. He was important. No, he couldn't do it. He was a hero. Was he? Split into two halves, he was stuck in a war that took place in his soul.
