Surface level intel. That's more than most receive, given most don't even care to request anything about him past the trail of corpses left in his wake. Cain might hardly consider himself a friend of talking about his own journey, but he can't deny it's strangely good to hear Sydney acknowledge a demon's attempts at becoming someone better. A softness spreads across his face, not quite a smile yet close ; eyes cast down in a substitute gesture for a nod. "That's a...", he pauses, tongue clicking, "nice thing to say." Closest thing to a 'thank you' there'll be for now.

Then follows a dismissive wave of his hand, the manner of which might look like annoyance while it's not, and he returns his full attention to her. "Enough of me." If they must wait, they might as well spend that time with a balanced exchange— questions Cain hasn't thought of subjecting any gifted individuals to before. Lack of interest or lack of time. "How did you notice the power you hold? I can't imagine you wake up one day and suddenly", a snap of fingers for emphasis. "It's just there." Would be too simple, but maybe it is.

  𝓢ydney wasn't surprised when she heard Cain ask how she came to have her powers- most people do ask. Though more often than not, they ask if it was real, if what she was dealing with carried any truth. In the end, a small percentage believed her. What mattered was that she knew what was real. It was their choice in the end whether or not they wanted to listen. ❝I uh— well, I guess death and the veil between planes of reality have always been something I've dealt with. Was born premature. Got sick a lot. Almost died a couple times. I probably died once and was brought back. Relatives died a lot from when I was young. My family's also been really open to the other side. So it just kinda comes with the nature of what I grew up with. Over time, I learned to grow my ability. And now I'm in a bunker with other mediums and you, of course.❞

Well this was rotten luck if Cassandra had ever experienced. The washer and dryer were being replaced back home, so that meant she'd be stuck doing laundry duty at a laundromat...

She groaned, lugging the big bag of dirty laundry on to the table with a thud. "Uggghhh! This suuuucks!" She wailed aloud in dramatic fashion.

  ❝𝓨ou know—❞ Sydney began as she collected the rest of her laundry onto the folding table, taking a glance back to check if anything fell onto the floor while moving. ❝—I think at this point I'll take my chances in a river, bashing my clothes with a wooden paddle against a rock.❞ She said flatly, looking over her things, briefly trying to figure out where to begin. ❝Why don't people double-check the washers and dryers when they take their stuff out- I'm constantly checking if I missed something.❞

"You've never seen Shawshank Redemption?" He laughed a little like he was in disbelief but he needed to start remembering that not everyone was a movie buff -- Like he was. He was surprised she never caught it on television since it was airing constantly on the USA channel, but maybe she didn't own cable. "It's a classic. Lots of twists and turns. I uh, don't wanna spoil anything if you haven't seen it so I think you should just go in blind. Now If you wanna pick that one up and grab another prison movie we are having a two for one sale, or I can just credit you for something else next time."

  ❝Look—!❞ Sydney began, raising her hands in defence as he questioned her about having not watched Shawshank Redemption. ❝—I have a lot on my plate and there's a lot of movies in the world. How can one physically... and mentally... watch every movie.❞ She jokingly huffed. ❝I'm making my rounds for classics. Is that a crime?❞ Looking over the movies again, she then glanced back up at the salesman. ❝Two for one sale on prison movies?❞ It sounded kind of silly, but she'll go along with it. ❝Sure, what do you have?❞

Given that his arms were already around her and with the fraction of teasing, one of which shifted to around her lower back. The other underneath the crook in Sydney's knees. Much to his surprise, it wasn't either difficult to pull himself into a standing position and lift his girlfriend as well. Certainly helped that her arms were already around his neck.

"As my queen desires." He said, not as quietly and with a bright grin. Within that next moment, Melvin heads towards the bedroom, lightly humming Sweet Talkin' Woman by ELO as he did so.

  𝓖iving a sleepy smile as her head rested against Melvin's chest, she was so happy to have such a caring and protective boyfriend like Melvin. She didn't know how she got so lucky, but meeting Mellie was a great start and then meeting Melvin- things evolved. And with the two of them, she couldn't be happier. She couldn't help but quietly giggle when she heard him start humming along to a song. He wasn't about to let her go to bed without some kind of lullaby, it seemed. It was perfect. ❝A queen?❞ pause. ❝I could get used to that.❞

Given the sudden change in her expression, he figured must have been something he'd said. A pause was taken as Melvin went back over what he'd just uttered--no, nothing had stood out. Nothing unusual. Unless….had she taken his offer, of the temporary variety as something else…?

"Oh…oh! Sorry, Syd I didn't mean to confuse you there. I meant it if things get dicey, and I just wanted my girls to be safe was all." There was an awkward smile of his own now, free hand running through the back of his curls. "Unless it gets dicey quite often…?"

Luckily, they realized I was home, and they left. Still don't know who it was. But the apartment isn't that great. Asked for things to be fixed and they just- don't get fixed. I'm pretty sure one of my neighbours' windows is broken.❞

"A slide would be epic~" Was Thanos aware that he may be a bit childish? Yes, but it had been far too long since he'd gone down a slide. Plus, those stairs were a lot. Even with all the exercise he had done for learning dance moves with hopes of becoming a successful performer/idol, it was a bit much.

"If there is, we can do a toast before we slide down to celebrate our victory." Clearly, the man believed that there was no way either of them was gonna lose, at least not yet. Even if had no idea what game was in store for them.

"It'd be a pretty lame game, but I guess it'd work to get rid of those that aren't cut out to be here." Mostly, the older players came to mind. Sure, he knew he should respect his elders, but they'd need to show they could compete in the environment.

  ❝𝓘 don't really know if it matters... I guess it might.❞ Sydney said, looking over each door from where she stood. It was hard to pick which one. What if it determind what team they would be on, or what game they'd play. There was no telling what would come from it. ❝Let's just pick one. Stick together as much as we can, I suppose.❞ It wasn't like she could ask the spirits for help. This compound had a weird, sinister energy to it, and not just because of the creepy guards. But she could also feel something blocking her from connecting with the other side. Perhaps there was a reason. So she would have to tread lightly.
