Thank you to the lovely @tosska for this wonderful prompt! You got my writing juices flowing again! This one's longer than usual :)"Oh boy." Jonah sighed, and Jasper looked up from his phone with questioning eyes."What?" He asked, and Jonah rolled his eyes."Y'know the new interns?" "At your office? Yeah, why?" Jasper set his phone down."They're idiots. I told them exactly how to fill out the dental exam form, but they did it wrong, tried to redo it, and charged some poor lady double for her visit. Dr. Davis went out of town this weekend and left me in charge, so I have to go clean up their mess." Jonah worked at a local vet office as a veterinary nurse, and he was working toward being a full-fledged vet. Jasper knew that the fresh wave of interns had been frustrating him lately."How long will that take?" Jasper asked with a frown. "Only a few minutes. I'll drive down there and be back in twenty," Jonah tried to sound okay with it, but Jasper didn't miss how Jonah was pulling at his fingers like he did when he was stressed, nor did he overlook the bags under his eyes."I'll come with," he offered, "I need to get out of the house anyway."Jonah looked infinitely grateful when he accepted; they both knew that if Jonah went alone, he might snap at the timid young interns, and that wouldn't be good for anyone. As they headed out to their crappy old army-green jeep, Jonah maintained silence, and Jasper was actually glad for it. He'd gotten a vicious head rush upon standing up, and his vision still swayed slightly. Jasper wondered if he'd had this headache all day without noticing, or if it was suddenly assaulting him. Tiredly, he leaned his temple against the cool glass of the window, doing his best to focus on the soft music playing over the car's speakers rather than his aching head. "Jasper, love?" Jasper jumped when Jonah's fingers appeared in his face, snapping to get his attention, "ah, there you are. We're here. Are you gonna wait in the car, or come in with me?" Jasper blinked, and it took his brain a minute to process the question. "I'll, uh, I'll come in with you," he stuttered, shaking his head slightly to clear out the fog. The thought of being in the hot, stuffy car alone made his stomach flip. He coughed uneasily, fighting the tight feeling in his throat, and pushed open his door, trailing after Jonah as he walked purposefully inside. The aforementioned interns looked younger than Jasper had expected, huddled together around a computer, looking perplexed. Jasper sat in a chair and watched Jonah warily as he approached them. As much as he was worried about his boyfriend's stress levels, he was distracted by the sudden unpleasant feeling in his gut.In the short time it had taken to walk from the car to the doors, he'd been hit by an unsettling wave of nausea that had sweat beading on his upper lip, and his stomach wasn't showing signs of settling down anytime soon. He swallowed convulsively when his throat tightened, and pulled himself up, scanning for the nearest bathroom. Not bothering with keeping up appearances, he pressed a fist to his lips and walked briskly toward the restroom. Vaguely, he heard Jonah excuse himself hastily just as he pushed open the bathroom door and rushed into the first stall. Jonah followed just as he slammed his knees down next to the toilet, leaning over the water. "Whoa, Jasper? What happened?" He sounded alarmed.Jasper shook his head and rocked forward with a wet gag."Okay, okay, just breathe," Jonah soothed, still sounding a little shaken.Jasper did his best, but his next inhale caught in his throat, and he retched thickly. A trickle of watery puke trickled out, and he retched again at the taste; this time a heavier wave clouded the toilet water. Jasper shuddered, gripping the toilet seat with white knuckles and leaning even farther forward.Jasper panted, his lower lip shiny with dripping saliva, anticipating the next round, while Jonah tentatively rubbed his back. Jonah fought the urge to pull away when he felt Jasper's muscles tense sickeningly beneath his fingers and he heaved loudly. Jasper blew out a shaky breath when his stomach settled momentarily, "Sorr–" his cheeks puffed out with a gag, and he pulled himself back over the bowl, belching up a thick slurry of vomit. "Don't apologize, love," Jonah cooed, "I just wish you'd told me you weren't feeling well."Jasper retched miserably, bringing up a thin stream of bile and spit. Jonah tore off a few squares of toilet paper the roll and used them to wipe Jasper's face clean, catching the string of saliva that trailed off of his lower lip. Jasper took the opportunity to speak, "I f-felt fine before. It came on really fast."Jonah frowned, concern glinting in his eyes, reaching up to touch his forehead,"You feel a little warm. Maybe you're coming down with something."Jasper shrugged; he really didn't care what was causing this, he just wanted to go home and curl up beside his own toilet. His stomach had given him a break for now, but the burning nausea in the pit of his gut warned him that it wouldn't last. "Are you up to riding in the car, or do you want to wait a little while?" Jonah asked, gently brushing a curl out of Jasper's face."I'll be okay, just...can you get a bag?" He told his boyfriend quietly, flushing."Oh, you poor thing. Of course, baby," Jonah assured him, "I'll be right back." While he was gone, Jasper rested his sweaty forehead against the cool porcelain of the toilet seat, willing his stomach to calm down just long enough to make it home. The last thing he wanted was to puke in a plastic bag in a moving car when he felt this miserable. It felt like ages of sitting alone in the bathroom before Jonah finally returned, holding a plastic grocery bag in one hand and a water bottle in the other. He crouched next to Jasper, holding out the water, but he shook his head,"I don't think I can drink that r-right now," Jasper stuttered.Jonah frowned, but didn't push him; instead, he helped Jasper to his feet and together they made the short trip back to the jeep. Jasper didn't like to see himself as melodramatic, but he couldn't stop the thought that the car was like a prison cell from entering his mind. He climbed into the passenger seat anyway, and opened the bag that Jonah had handed him, just in case. As they continued, though, over bumps and turns and rough patches, the bag was starting to feel more and more necessary. Jasper gagged weakly when the car jerked, and Jonah sneaked a glance at him. Jasper sucked in deep breaths, trying to control his rebelling stomach, but he already knew that it was no use. The turn into their parking lot was the last straw. With a sickly belch, a thin stream of bile splattered into the bag, and was immediately followed by a gurgling retch. "Oh honey," he heard Jonah mutter as he dry heaved harshly over the plastic. Jasper lurched forward one last time, just as the car pulled to a stop, and was left breathing heavily over the bag.Jonah waited for a moment to make sure he was done, and then spoke: "Ready to head inside? We'll set you up in bed and get you some tea, okay?" Jasper swallowed, "yeah, okay." This wasn't either of their ideal Sundays, but it was Jonah's full intention to allow Jasper to enjoy it as much as possible.
