“The need to deter this type of conduct is high,” That's what U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor said to justify the ludicrous sentencing of Des Revol along with the other eight individuals arrested for their involvement in the Prairieland Detention Center protest. It doesn't matter that Des Revol didn't participate in said protest and wasn't in the area, or that he was arrested two days later at gunpoint. O'Connor and the Texas state court want to make an example of Revol in the hopes it will deter future criminal activity. His crime? Having a box of free zines, pamphlets, and art in his truck. Free speech isn't illegal yet and we won't let Texas pretend that it is! In Des's own words(taken from his first public statement):
