I hate when people online mischaracterize Mac or worse, stop treating him like a character at all. You do realize that he has other traits that aren’t “being gay” and “being in love with Dennis”. You do realize that he’s his own character with his own motivations right. I know they sort of lobotomized him in the more recent seasons but goddamn not to the extent I’ve seen online. It is genuinely so hard to find a post on here about Mac that does not involve Dennis. You guys are failing some version of the bechdel test istg.

agreed but i do believe that the show has a little bit of fault on this because they've been erasing mac's personality in the late seasons. i miss so many of his old traits and quite frankly rob's acting changed and he hasn't been playing mac like he used to. it's like they're having some problem in knowing what to do with mac other than just him being the gay guy in the group. let's see how s17 is gonna go tho

#i agree with both of you #i think a lot about of the intracacies of macs character #when you look back at the early seasons he is a completely different character #but when you take a character whose main defining traits are centered around toxic masculinity #like wanting to be perceived as macho and later wanting to be perceived as straight #with the added weight of him being catholic #and the fact he looks up to his dad to the point of copying his style #of course he is going to change when he comes out of the closet #specially when he tries to come out to the man he looks up to and wants to impress. and the man simply leaves #i mean #i like to assume thats why he stopped styling his hair with gel and wearing the clothes he would wear in previous seasons #to symbolize him coming to terms with his sexuality and his dads reaction in a way #ofc they really didnt work it well #and i mean it #they really didnt. i think they are still trying to work his character out #i feel like they dont really know what to do with him.#i miss some aspects of mac so much! they mellowed him out a litte sasjkddajdd #but he was better in s16 which i appreciate #and hope will stick for s17!!!#maybe im rambling but its so interesting to think about the trajectory of macs character

POV: you're walking out of the bathroom and you bump into glenn howerton and you're stuck in the doorway and you have to do a little dance to get past each other and you never even get to say "hey i know you from sunny" because it's not like you're gonna follow him BACK into the bathroom or wait outside for him because he already thinks you're a freak who can't use doorways
