Wasting hard-earned money on dolls, lalala

Bought the SDCC Ghouls Rule Lagoona. I've been working an extra hour most shifts these past 2 weeks so I had the money.... should be saving up for more important things. I know. I know! But hey, the world feels like its constantly blowing up and I am in constant pain no doctor can seem to fix so.... pretty shiny fishgirl to give me a bit o' joy. People spend way more on concerts and sporting events these days, and I gave up other expensive things in life, this IS my one expensive non-necessity.

With the added shipping and taxes it makes her my 4th most expensive doll. My others, in order of most to least expensive (what I paid for them, not what they are going for on the secondhand market right now) are:

Seeing the in-box photos of the collector Abby made me glad I didn't spend the $100 on her. My main problem was that I would've preferred the G3 body... having skinny G1 in that bulky coat/dress looks weird, even though I like the overall shape of the outfit. The lighting in the voting pics and the dark background of them also gave me pause... I knew the final mass-produced product would not look as good as the prototype. Plan on making my own g3 version... gathered the materials and an extra self-scare Abby when she went on deep discount. Just have to get around to it. One day! (I hate sewing so I'm putting it off). Just don't understand why she was $100 when the Rainbow high winter dolls that came with those sand-snowmen also have big puffy coat-dresses and were on clearance at Burlington for like $13 last year.

Still debating on the angler-fish-inpsired Lagoona. She goes on sale tomorrow and I'm leaning towards maybe getting her. My rule on dropping big money on collector dolls is "Can I recreate this myself with the skills I have and cheaper?" and if the answer is no, and I like the doll.... I know I could never recreate her shiny shiny fishyfin dress so.... hmm...

I know the pictures are blurry and I might change my mind when we get better pics... I want all of the Carnival dolls. Elissabat! and the Frankie is everything I like about FreakDuChic Twyla but will actually be an obtainable price. Lagoona I'd give different hair, not digging the yellow curls here. I'd most likely give her short black hair

Claws & Charms is probably a skip. Moonspell: I like the sleepover Carina doll better than her witch outfit doll and will wait for her. Claire is the opposite, the sleepover doll is very nice but I prefer her witch outfit... though if she's on clearance I might still pick her up. And do they have pets? It looks like maybe a black cat for Rae, Owl for Claire, and bunny for Carina?

Aldi-Lagoona!

I'd been looking for a cheap G3 Lagoona to try giving bangs, and in a walmart clearance isle they had 4 of the Core Refresh 2 (the one with the puffy sleeves and long sporty skirt). For $13. 3 of them had very misprinted faces, the one I picked had a great face but one ear that hadn't molded right. No problem, i was going to hide that with hair anyway (the side I braided) !

I cut the part that was tied up at the top of her hair to make the bangs. Even with a boil wash the bangs didn't want to stay down on their own so they are gelled in place with Got2bGlued and also the shell-sunglasses help hold them down as well.

I didn't like her original outfit but that was fine too because I'd been looking for a doll to put in the Aldi doll clothes. Her cup and camera are from Barbie Dream Besties (pretty sure on that). Necklace from a 5 Below fashion set just able to squeeze over her head and then tied in the back to keep it tight on her neck (her long hair hides the extra beads back there). Headband was from a Steffi doll bought solely for clothes/accessories that was then redressed and donated to a thrift shop (as was the Aldi doll). Sandals from Rainbow High Dawn, with some painted on details. I repainted one bracelet and her armfins.

Her sunglasses (original to the doll) do not want to stay on straight. I might add in some pieces of hair that I cut off to the bangs to fill them out more, but otherwise pleased! The doll as she was in box had way too big of a forehead but the bangs really soften her look.

I think she's really cute and finally her and Oasis Lagoona (who is perfect as-is) are the only 2 G3 Lagoonas I've wanted to keep pink.

OoAK "Fearbook" Cleo. There is no official Fearbook Cleo DeNile as of me posting this (July 2026), this is my version. I bought a G3 Ghoul Spirit Cleo off ebay for cheap, as all she had was her jacket and earrings (I liked the jacket!).

Hat is from the tennis Ghoulia (repainted and drips cut off the brim). Top is a pale yellow Bratz shirt. Necklace came from a dollar tree Barbie accessory set, belt and bracelet are from Luv dolls... I think... I painted some details on top. Skirt from Hauntlywood Clawdeen, leggings from G1 Gilda (tight fit and didn't go all the way up, which is why I needed to layer a skirt on top). Boots are.... I forget, G3 and I totally repainted them into stylish hiking boots. Purse is from G3 Nefera. and I painted the sculpted bandages on one leg.

What's her club? She doesn't have one... she doesn't join, she wants people to follow her... her activity? she's going shopping on her dad's credit cards, of course (I I don't follow G3 lore, so I'm going with G1 personality here).

Back from vacation

I didn't do much. It either rained or was too hot or I was sick most of the days. On the hot days the beach was either too crowded to find a spot or I was too sick to swim. So I only got to take a quick 10 min dip one day. I have another vacation in August, so hopefully, I'll feel better, the weather will cooperate, and it will be less tourist-y.

I saw maybe.... 6 minutes of fireworks before it poured rain. I did nothing for the 250th.... hard to feel proud of America right now.

I did go to a giant library booksale (many tents on their front lawn) and got a big bag of books for only $9 total! I got most of the way through re-reading The Golden Compass (last read in highschool. I was able to find the whole series). It's scary to hear reports of us being in a "post-literary America". I still like books. I don't know why people prefer smartphones. I have one now, but there's so many annoying ads and AI garbage mixed in. Know where there isn't any of that, and doesn't require electricity? a book printed on paper.

Worked a bit on art. Fixed up some dolls (photos to follow).

Befriended a bald cardinal (the red bird)... he was young and had not yet grown feathers on his head, very funny. He was still begging his dad for food but his dad ignored him, so I would save seeds from my bread for him and leave them out for him. I like the kind of bread that has whole grains and lots of seeds in them. As I said, I was feeling queasy most of my vacation (and still) so I was eating a lot of toast with olive oil butter and French mixed-fruit jam because that;s one thing I can always eat even when ill (why French? well.... they don't put the artificial stuff the American jams do... its worth the extra dollars)

When I came back I found some animal had eaten all the cabbages and cucumber plants out of my garden, but they left the raspberries and tomatoes alone.

I loved Uniracers as a kid. It's what I miss most from my SuperN*ntendo. It was my comfort game. Never thought I'd get to play it again.

I don’t think people truly understand the scope of the damage Sony is about to do to physical media. They literally invented the compact disc. They are the reason why Blu-ray as a format won the HD wars over HD-DVD. They have gargantuan influence over manufacturing disc-based media. If Sony as a company stops making physical media for their next gen gaming consoles, this is going to affect movies and music as well. If you buy CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays, those are next on the chopping block.

I do want to point out that about 10 years ago, there was one manufacturer still pressing vinyl records left in the U.S. But since the resurgence of this format, multiple pressing facilities have opened, or reopened, and now vinyl is the most common form of physical music on the market. CDs and cassettes are also making a comeback.

Sony claims it’s using sales trends as a reason to phase out physical games. Corporations do actually care about making money. They follow these trends. I’m not saying panic buy all the physical media right now, but when it comes to owning things you can hold in your hand, you have to actually buy them.

There are series I started collecting on DVD/Bluray that only had their first and sometimes second seasons on disc, and the rest is locked behind one streaming service you have to pay monthly for, you don't even have the option of renting or buying the season or individual episodes.

I used to get made fun of for 2 solid decades for having a DVD collection because "it'll all be on streaming! Why waste all that room in your house!" and only now people seem to be waking up to the fact streaming can yank away any and all of the movies and series they enjoy and they don't get a say in it. Streaming is NOT a forever archive!

I used to buy so many CDs but have lost most of my collection.... which sucks but I have the songs from them I loved most transferred to both Mp3 players and an external harddive so I could re-burn them onto CD if I took the time. How many songs do I have? over 1,400. that I can listen to any time. Without ads.

I forever regret selling off my SuperNintendo as a kid with all its games thinking future consoles would let you download them to the new ones! NOPE! Most of those games are gone forever

So yeah man, physical copies are where its at.

Work was like being a turkey in a thanksgiving oven, but I survived. It was fans, not A/C today. I do no like working in 80 degrees F and up. I do not like it at all.

I might get the collector Lagoona doll afterall. May have room for her in my budget, considering all the new dolls I want will have to wait a while to actually be on store shelves.

New dolls I'm waiting for:

Self-Scare Spectra and Cleo (I'm telling myself to wait for sales on these)

Buried Secrets Concert Looks (all of them, mainly for their accessories/clothes/boxes and because I do like that Spectra. Going to get these as soon as I see them as BS doesn't go on sale, it either sells out in a blink of a eye or stays on the store shelves for most of the year)

Slaycation Cabin Cupid (and the Clawdeen when she's on discount... even though I have too many 'deens. I said I wouldn't! but ... then... *shrug* she's too pretty and her jacket makes her look like her OG doll)

speaking of that Salon Clawdeen (hoping she'll be in TJ Maxx or Marshalls at a reduced price, I got the Cleo with vanity set there last year, should be the same size box)

The Ghoul Spirit 3 pack ( I really online like the Drac and Frankie. That 'deen head and clothes are going on an unarticulated body and donated, and going to rebody one of my BS with the one with joints. Prob getting this online as I doubt stores want to put multipacks on shelves anymore)

I tend not to like their plain humans, so as much I love that show.... that and its $100 pricetag I might have to skip.

Its silly to spend money on dolls as an adult, I know, but it brings me joy and gives me something to look forward to. I don't go out much, this is where the "fun money" is going until I get bored of it.

I'm jealous of her sometimes, she's worked for big companies, and is now (according to AI) a superintendent of a community college. Hey if you're coming to Washington DC for the Fourth of July: don't

We're having our turn in the heat wave and reports from the National Mall are brutal already this week. That screenshot is today's forecast (courtesy of the Capital Weather Gang) and tomorrow and Saturday are confidently going to be worse than this is.

The national Mall has no shade on the grass and you will be exposed to the sun constantly while also experiencing extremely high humidity. You will not be allowed a bag over a certain size to enter the mall and it has to be clear. You cannot have an insulated water bottle, it has to be clear. Reports are that there are two entrances to the area so you'll have to wait in line to even get in. I cannot find a number on how many cooling stations there are, except that it's "few" to "none" depending on what accounts I read online. Vendors are allegedly charging more than the posted prices and seem to be unprepared for actual crowds - these are the official vendors not the scam food trucks that park all around the edges of the mall. And that's the extent of the planning done because it was not a priority to make sure attendees don't pass out.

My local friends and I have reached a consensus that tourists are going to get extremely sick and none of us know what the EMT response or planning is on the mall this year. People are going to die.

Please stay out of this. It's not worth your health. Get your relatives and family to stop. I can give you recs for so many DC museums and things to do if you want to make the most of your trip. Any other local can too.
