So I just had the shit creeped out of me.

I’m not someone who believes in ghosts, but I was sitting in my room, alone and in the dark, and I heard the strings of my violin being softly plucked. 

My violin is hanging on the wall several feet away. 

So I gathered my courage, grabbed my phone, and used the camera light to investigate. 

And found this.

A goddamn spider was playing my violin. Not even joking. The little shit.

The behavior would indicate that it is a male. Only females weave webs. Male spiders have to be careful not to be mistaken for prey and eaten, so they pluck the web. Poor thing didn’t exactly get any this time!

In case anyone reading my blog is unaware, this is a reference to the Green Day song titled “Wake Me Up When September Ends” a song that Billie Joe Armstrong wrote following the death of his father in September of 1982 when Billie Joe was ten years old. The title of the song references his desire to sleep through September in an effort to get some emotional distance from the death of his father.

He’s since been open about the emotional difficulty of having written the song since many people now message him on October 1st to ‘wake him up’ despite the song being a memorial to his departed father.

It’s generally seen as respectful to not try to wake him up. Let him sleep and let him remember his father in peace.

When it comes to death The Living do all they can to avoid it, even going so far as to shame or ridicule people like me who embrace and celebrate it. We even go so far as to tell those who have Dementia/Alzheimer’s that their dead loved one is “working” or “at the store”.

The Living are horribly selfish, and it makes me angry, disappointed, and sad.

One of my biggest regrets (and my mom’s too) was when we both opted out of being with our rescue dog Honey when it was her time. She had a very traumatic last few moments due to what her ailment was. And I was still young and scared. Not only is it no closure for us who loved her very much, but I feel awful I couldn’t kiss her goodbye. My current dog Poppy is spiraling towards that same fate unfortunately in her old age. I doubt I’ll be able to be around for when it happens as she lives with my mom. But I am sure my mom will be with her, as we spoke about it with heavy hearts before.

But thinking about it is choking me up. And I really hope I’ll be able to be there somehow. Even though I live an hour’s drive away in the city. :(
