Fishing nets account for an estimated 46% of ocean plastic waste, so if you’re looking for a way to reduce your personal impact, boycotting commercial fishing and not eating seafood would be a great starting point.

So this article is just a really in your face example of the dodgy tactics of the animal agriculture industry. In terms of the article itself, an article espousing the supposed need for the agriculture of cows, its author is  Sara Place, Ph.D who is a senior director at NCBA, a contractor to the Beef Checkoff Program. The Beef Checkoff Program is a producer-funded marketing and research program designed to increase domestic and/or international demand for beef.

The main study cited in this article to support the authors claim is a study by a dairy scientist for the U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center and the other is an animal scientist working for The Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences that “strives to improve the performance, efficiency, and profitability of animal production”. This study has rightly been widely criticized for being incredibly dodgy, and some such replies, highlighted before you even get to the original study, are the following here and here and here. I would highly suggest giving them a read for a better understanding of just why this study is so incredibly flawed and misleading. Another source used is beefitswhatsfordinner.com from the same National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
