Seriously? She has been so worried about this pregnancy and won’t let Bates be openly happy about it nor announce it publicly. She has had 3 miscarriages that she knows of, 3 trips to an expensive specialist in London and she ignores her husband’s pleas to not go and literally runs off. Even today, when women have the McDonald stitch put in because of cervical incompetence, bed rest and caution are highly recommended, especially for their first pregnancy. Anna, especially with all the walking and the stairs, and being at least 4 months pregnant now, maybe 5, should be cautious. If the stitch comes lose it means death to the baby or the pressure of her running can cause premature labor which could mean death to baby and mother or, if there is a doctor present, a c-section which would very likely mean no more pregnancies because they would be too dangerous. Each subsequent pregnancy will always require a cevical stitch and her first pregnancy is the most delicate. Tear or rupture the cervix and barren. And what can she do for Mary that Tom can not? Love Anna, but Bates needs to get her away from Downton and Mary, I can not believe she literally RAN off when her and Bates’ baby, their future, was bouncing against the stitch! For Baxter to have found out about Anna being pregnant, Anna could very well have stayed with her husband after Bates cautioned Anna.
