Hollonov thoughts on LIUSA:
- they’re both rooting hard for Kaniya. Shane in particular hates to see Aniya cry
- they didn’t approve of the Brinity due to the age gap and after episode 8 Ilya is on Bryce’s ass
- they both hate Zach, nothing but bad advice and walking back on words
- they had a heated debate on Mel and Sincere. Ilya recognizes the fuckboy in Sin IMMEDIATELY and heavily supports Mel getting any lickback. Shane doesn’t approve if the tit for tat and wants her to just let it go
-they both want to set Gabriel on fire
- Shane LOVES Bea and wants the best for her and also immediately looks up her races when he hears she’s an athlete
- Corbin frustrates Shane to the point of anger and Ilya is trying remember if he’s ever used corny ass lines like that in his youth
-Ilya keeps trying to get Shane to do splits like Kenzie and Shane just wants her to pick the white boy and be happy with that
- Ilya loves Kayda’s energy and after he hears about her hs fights he’s praying she swings on someone
- they both really miss Sean
Ilya coming across Raye’s new album and Shane finds him tearing up on the floor with “I Know You’re Hurting” on repeat. He just holds him for a while then continues the album after a few more listens. Shane held him extra hard during “Fields” as the sobbing intensified and Shane knew that one would be a rare play in their home.
“Lifeboat” on the other hand will become a mainstay in their household when Ilya whispers that Shane’s always been his lifeboat. Similarly with “Joy” and “Happier Times Ahead” as they quell Ilya’s cries and alert Anya who comes and starts dancing to the music, finally putting Ilya in a better mood.
When Ilya tells Shane that music never got to him like that before, Shane immediately buys tickets to her tour and also orders a sick pack of travel tissues for the day of the show.

Sameteam!au where Shane and Ilya are both young and stuck on a team with a god awful losing streak and one night while drowning their sorrows they drunkenly hook up and the next day the team plays incredibly and they win. The very superstitious veteran captain insists that everyone repeats everything they did the night before so Shane and Ilya hook up again and they win again and they keep hooking up and winning and now the team has a complete turn around season and maybe a chance at playoffs but oops uh oh now they also have feelings for each other
Do we think Ilya has seen any classic tragic American boy-with-dog movies? I just know “Where the Red Fern Grows” would hurt bad, same with “Old Yeller”. Even “Marley & Me” was still popular when he was settling in the US and I just know if she saw that movie he’d be crying alone in his Boston apartment.
Worse he’d see it after getting Anya and would probably cry himself to sleep and she’d be sleeping in their bed for a week. Shane too would be upset but would be over it by day 3 but let’s it go on for longer because he loves his husband a dog daughter.
I know technically Ilya is based on Quicksilver from the original fanfic, but lets be so honest, Ilya has to be Deadpool. He’s the misunderstood lovable asshole who can’t stop quipping to save his life. He has mental issues out the ass and is always popping up in the background of other stories.
That leads me to my next theory: Shane Hollander is Spider-Man. The upstanding beloved hero who is as scary on the ice as spidey is to his villains. Both are fast, smart, and quick thinkers but also over thinkers.
That of course means hollonov is a spideypoool variant and that sits so well in my soul and also explains the obsession.
i'm so grateful to "how many times can you cum in an hour?" because the fandom saw that and went. oh, ilya rozanov will make it his personal life goal to definitively answer that question and will not stop until he's tested the upper limits of shane's physical limitations. bet. and i think that was very smart of us.
Those upper limits meaning Shane is left with no feeling in his left leg, half blind in his right eye, and twitching like a dead cockroach while speaking in tongues. Ilya on the other hand is barely satisfied and thinks he could do one more.
"Just because I'm right, doesn't mean I'm being helpful" is a vastly underrated thought process that I strongly encourage others to get comfortable with
Headcanon that Ilya grows a beard in retirement and when he shaves it off his kids react like this. Just crying and running away from him and he vows to never shave again
the thing about heated rivalry is beyond the actual hockey games it's never shane vs ilya. it's shane vs the shame or ilya vs the horrors but they're always walking towards each other. always together, even when they can't pick up their heads and see it. so yeah shanegirl this ilyagirl that but do not forget that from whence you came (the hollanov combination torture nexus/sex dungeon)
lake scene redraw bc they’re so cutieful

Shane hadn’t realized when Ilya first told him that he loved him until they were having pasta with his parents. It makes him feel things that he can’t say to Ilya in Russian or any language.
Shane will just have to show him.
it came to my realization that 99% of my fandom related headaches would be cured if everyone understood this
Can’t lie I hate the way some people talk about Reid’s writing. Like yea it’s obvious she’s no Jane Austen and there are very valid critiques to be had but people are drilling her writing for not extensively spelling out and exploring every single part of her characters.
Yes Shane is autistic and has some form of an ED but if you can tell that from the writing why does it need to be explicitly explained? It really feels like half the people who’ve read the books have never had a discussion on literature in high school. You’re SUPPOSED to make interpretations and hypothesis based what’s presented, thats what analysis is.
For example Shane’s eating habits lend itself to an ED thats worsened over time, and that he’s explicitly states he does to have some modicum of control. The same control that he can’t have over his personal life because he has to hide person he loves. We know he has autistic tendencies that can lend itself to rigidity that also adds to the ED. So why do we need Reid to fully explain that once the thing that he was trying desperately to protect and control (his relationship) is outed and he can’t do anything to control it he finally let’s go of the diet. It’s actually a beautiful moment of him finally freeing himself from crazy expectations and everyone wants to paint it as bad writing because he didn’t have to speak to a therapist about it.
And speaking of therapy, on the other end of the spectrum we have people claiming that Reid doesn’t explore Ilya’s sex addiction meanwhile that can be a condition of his depression and he is literally in therapy for only a few months. He’s at the beginning of his mental health journey and everyone is shocked that all his issues weren’t talked through? Like we can’t make any assumptions here that Ilya will continue to work on his issues?
None of this even touches the racial critiques I’ve seen. Like yes I really do think that she could’ve have done a better job at exploring that part of Shane but also using all the context clues it’s not THAT unrealistic of an interpretation of a poc in a white space. I can’t and won’t speak for the Asian community but I am the child of black immigrants and grew up in a heavily white area. Technically I can speak more from Yuna’s perspective but when it comes to being white spaces if you don’t make your race an issue they won’t either especially in more northern areas of America. Can’t speak for Canada but if you’re good at something, one of very few poc in a space, and don’t bring up racial issues they will leave you alone which is what see in Shane’s conversation with Rose in HR. Shane is the embodiment of not wanting to rock the boat and just wanting to live his life and play hockey. He’s definitely faced racial discrimination and is being used as a token but he gets to do what he loves so it’s worth it. Also he isn’t even a child of immigrants it’s very possible that he’s just one of those poc whose parents were assimilated heavily to fit in and so they purposefully don’t make race more of an issue than it has to be. It happens all the time so I’m not sure why everyone is shocked that a 2nd/3rd gen North American would be whitewashed after growing up in the whitest major sport. And my last point in this that goes back to overall analysis is also bringing in who the author is. Reid is a white woman who made a generally inoffensive depiction of a poc and I’m not sure why we’re looking to her for perfect representation. I can’t lie if she tried harder it could have gone badly quickly and gotten actually offensive. It makes sense to look for representation in Hudson’s portrayal but looking to a white woman writing smutty hockey romance for a perfect representation of a poc is genuinely odd to me.
All this to say I really think there are a lot of valid criticisms of her writing but I do think there needs to be some more levels of analysis instead of expecting every piece of their characters to be explored. It would eventually make for a very boring story to have to dig through all that.
Not a hot take but when a fic includes characters speaking in a language other than it’s written in I actually wish writers would just use google translate especially if they aren’t adding the translation to the text.
I can kind of get over it if the translation is in the notes but even that breaks the rhythm of my reading. I appreciate the efforts that goes into researching translations but if I don’t know your sources and you’re not writing it somewhere I have no clue what’s being said anyway
