Writing this because I am absolutely baffled that this is nowhere else on the internet, but the Black Mirror episode “Metalhead” is an amazing piece of anticapitalist fiction and everyone is convinced it’s one of the worst Black mirror episodes because “It’s just a boring ‘robots want to kill all humans story’“. This reading is just wrong, factually. The robots lie dormant in warehouses until they are set off, at which point they implant trackers in whoever triggered them because *they are hunting those specific people*. And now I know what you’re thinking, “But why is the world all barren though? Why are almost all the people seemingly dead?” For the same reason that there are robot dogs running security, automation has negated the need for human laborers, and so those human laborers have been left to die by the owning class. This episode shows in great detail the consequences of automation if we continue on how we have as a society, as all great Black Mirror episodes do with futuristic tech. And it just goes to show how unversed modern people are in this kind of thought that no one is talking about this episode this way.
