Itâs insane, the things that people will cheat at.
So, Iâm playing Overwatch last nightânot competitive, or even Quickplay, but an arcade lobby for Tiny Hide & Seekâwhen we all start to notice that one particular player seems to have a knack for honing in on the hiders, even the ones whoâve masterfully clipped into otherwise completely innocuous places.
The player finally gets called out when theyâre seeking and zoom over to the general area where a tiny Diva is literally clipped into the wall trim (with not even a pixel exposed), pauses for several seconds, then turns right to the Diva and gets her out.
Iâm the lobby host, so I decide to give them one more match and not say anything but keep a very close eye on them. Low and behold, we load into a map and I hide (either Sombra or Diva) clipped into a newspaper stack, and when the match starts immediately swap over to their camera and see them go from spawn and straight to my area. It would have been less suspicious, if not specifically because they didnât fire a single shot until they were right by me, at which point they shot the trash can then my newspaper stack.
They then proceeded to take out 6 of the 9 hiders both that match and the following within the first 1-1.5 minutes of each map while I was trying to figure out how to boot them from my steamdeck (I know, I know, but I work a desk job and gaming on keyboard makes my carpal tunnel flare up).
I finally boot them, and another player drops the match at the exact same time. They both show back up at the same time, and then I boot the cheater again and both players disappear. Rinse and repeat several times, where Iâm honestly surprised they didnât catch a hint or get bored and I also realize the two have never actually been on the same team, and I finally put both players spectator jail where they couldnât break free to rejoin.
The original cheater goes all âwoe is meâ and says their goodbyes as if theyâve been wrongly accused of a grievous crimes and are leaving the match, but then continues to lurk silently. They only left for good when I realized they could still see both teams and set their spectator privileges to the seeker team only.
Turns out, they were likely in a group and using the âavoid as teammateâ function to metaphorically hack the system of a for funsies hide and seek game.
