the umbrella academy is right. the only time it’s acceptable to deadname someone is if you missed the fact that they came out as trans in the first place because you’d been kidnapped by the children your father replaced you with.
In the town where I grew up, there was a large statue in one of the parks, of a famous historical white colonizer. I'm not going to say who specifically, suffice it to say that it was someone who wasn't worth memorializing for their deeds. And as you can imagine, this statue was a frequent target of vandalism, with paint or toilet paper or eggs on multiple occasions. Now, the local council was generally pretty lax when it came to repairing potholes or other public damage in the town, but every time, 24 hours after this particular statue was hit, the same person would always appear in a Hi-Vis vest, hat, mask and sunglasses, carrying a bucket of water, and wash it clean. They would do it as quickly as possible, but always made sure the face and the name carved at the bottom were generously scrubbed. This only encouraged people to do it again, and so it became a vicious cycle.
Within a year, the statue had sustained so much damage that it was unrecognizable and the lettering unreadable, so eventually the council came and took it down. Also apparently, the person in the Hi-Vis vest didn't even work for the council. They were supposedly just some 'good samaritan' who cleaned it, often before the council even discovered it needed cleaning, so they just let them do it and ignored the problem. They didn't bother putting the statue up again.
Much later, we found out that the anonymous 'samaritan' had been deliberately washing the statue with a bucket of saltwater, which had dramatically corroded it, causing irreversible accumulative damage far worse than spray paint ever would have done. It's even theorized that they were also often the one spray-painting it, just so that they had an excuse to come back after a day to wash it.
God I love this plot twist so much
my favourite scene in all of heartstopper is the hallway scene during sports' day. not because they are lovey dovey or kiss or the entire rest of that scene but because nick says the words "and if you really want us to break up then i would respect your decision, but i want us to be together."
normally, i despise the trope where you have to 'fight' for someone to prove that you love them, especially in break up settings. it's a thing we were a victim of and i hate seeing it portrayed as some celebratory moment of not giving up for someone because that is not always true. all it took was for a few extra words "then i would respect your decision" and the trope no longer felt constricting or negative. nick knows that at the end of the day charlie is his own person and as much as he wants them to be together, he prioritises charlie's wants over his. and thats why they work it out in the end. this scene means the most to us personally out of the entire show, because it just shows how good of a character nick is, and how good the show is at portraying common tropes in a non-negative light that makes them feel fresh and unique

I think the PJO Disney+ series should keep the “overcoming the blonde stereotype” subplot except with Percy and it’s a recurring gag throughout the season
aphrodite being played by multiple actresses because beauty and love is subjective PLEASE
i think absolutely the funniest thing about like, the adfree tumblr subscription coming with the option to turn ads back on anyway so you can see the weird ad everyone is talking about, or the new promoted post feature and everyone immediately thinking about what kind of stupid shit to put on other people’s dashboards. is that for years execs have been struggling for a way to make tumblr profitable when its userbase is so actively hostile to being advertised to and thus extremely unattractive to the big advertisers that keep the majority of other sites afloat, and have been passing tumblr around from company to company like a hot potato as a result. and now the solution is to like. only allow the stupidest most insane ineffective advertisements and then give users the tools to make even more insane and ineffective advertisements. i just really like that this site is so impossible to advertise to that they just kinda gave up on doing it the conventional way and are now letting us prop up the empty defaced husk of advertisement and parade it around for our amusement. i also really like that this is a perfectly double edged sword because the more people see your post the more attention you get and everyone knows attention is a punishment on tumblr dot com. i love it here i’m never gonna leave
In 1934-1936, trans brothers Mark and David Ferrow of Yarmouth, UK, both transitioned at age 13 with full parental support. Mark medically transitioned first in 1939 at 17 and his brother soon followed. “Though we have been girls, we have both felt men at heart,” Mark told a reporter. Their stories show that trans youth can grow up to be happy, celebrated adults.
David lived in their hometown of Great Yarmouth, UK for the rest of his life. He became a local icon. At 15, he started selling books. He later ran a wildly successful bookshop until death in 2006, age 81, 68 years after transitioning. He had a daughter, Jan, who supported his work. The whole town adored him. Why, yes, that is a mug of his face. Mark, always passionate about art, joined the Kirby Muxlue Players troupe as a writer and traveled throughout the UK. His David Gower painting is currently in the UK’s National Portrait Gallery! His art still hangs in collections all over the country - although it’s almost never recognized as being by a trans artist. Mark married Edna Hall in 1942 and died in 1991, age 68, in Leicester. It’s important to mention that it’s unclear if both men are intersex despite the reports. At the time, it was customary for non-intersex trans people to claim intersex conditions in order to access care (e.g. Roberta Cowell). Regardless if they were trans or intersex and trans, I would hate their underreported stories to be forgotten!
one of my favourite and most refreshing things about Heartstopper was that both Tao and Charlie apologised after their fight. In a lot of queer media the gay friend has to apologise (*cough*lovesimon*cough*) even if both parties were in the wrong. but here-- they both acknowledged they could have handled it better, and both of them apologise (in the classic "im sorry" "no, i'm sorry" way)
its just so nice to see in a teenage drama series
i cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have gossipy bitchy littl pirvate group chats or discord servers with like 4 people in them whose stated purpose is posting "new kind of guy" or "this reddit post is so fuckin dumb" or "i got into a fight on twitter today look at this idiot's reply" so your homies can still see it and laugh and back you up but more importantly, so you are not tempted to post these kinds of things on main
I actually think that a lot of people are very beautiful, and maybe even more beautiful when they are not aware of it themselves.
