Season two John is such a treat. Like yes he has overwhelming (understandable) paranoia that drives him to essentially stalk his coworkers.
The thing is he makes my trust issues seem farm more reasonable. Do I on occasion have thoughts about how everyone around me doesn’t like me and at best only tolerates my presence? Sure but who hasn’t had that thought? The important thing is that I don’t spy on my friends and ones because I’m keenly aware that would only make matters worse and that my trust issues were made from a trauma the people in question never caused. I also refuse to believe the world is horrible that everyone I know is capable of such things.
That aside following him down his rabbit hole when someone unknown actually is out to get him is… cathartic
my aunt is watching some generic daytime tv talkshow and the hosts are very cheerfully going "yknow this AI thing isnt actually as cool as i thought it was- i keep noticing the google overview getting facts wrong! isnt that weird?" and its very funny watching regular middle aged people finally catch on. we did it lads it took long enough.
i hate the word spicy can we bring back calling things erotic
rolling up to Wendy's to get an erotic chicken sandwich
Mip is like six of our guys sharing a name and each of them going by a different nickname. I'm running out of nicknames for Michael, send help.- Vinnie, the host
we usually solve that by getting a second, entirely different name. like me! I'm Avery from Searching for a world that doesn't exist, but there are already other Averys in there so I also go by Chenille -Chenille
It really is harder to be kind than it is to be mean in so many situations. It can be really difficult to see the good in people and believe that they have good intentions and try to help because it's exhausting and people will call you naive. But it's so worth it. Even if it's unlikely that someone joking about killing themselves means they may be even slightly inclined to do so, to me, it's still worth it to check even if it pisses them off that you keep checking just in case because there could be a sliver of them that isn't joking and I want them to know I love them. So yeah. Hug your friends. Tell people you love them. And get hugged. Cuz even if it's exhausting and tiring and repetitive and naive and silly and stupid to be kind and be nice and be loving in the face of suckiness, it feels good and it's totally worth it.
I love rebloging. It’s the adult equivalent of showing everyone the cool rock I just found.
Anyone else ever just think about how your whole life consistently feels like fragmenteds lies stitches on top of each other?
Like you’re a bunch of books from the wrong series strung together and being represented like one book series but you never know the plot or characters because is book 1 of series A, book two of series B, book 3 of series C. Suddenly it feels like there’s no point in learning or connecting to what’s going one because it’s all going to change again anyway?
But also you long for connection and with you could trust despite perpetually being out of place. You fake being a person because there’s no other options but what If the people in series E find out about what happened in book 2 and suddenly hate you and now you’re in book 5?
But you also know that if you don’t make connections and do good at it then the world will change again because people won’t like you anyway for being so distant.
Sometimes I think it might be easier to run off to the forest. Decide for my self when and where the new book starts but I know that we’ll be stuck thinking about this book the way we do the last one.
Truly running off won’t solve anything. Walking off won’t help but opening up isn’t exactly an option. There are of course exceptions to this but the answers to what those exceptions are and how far they go have to be constantly reconsidered.
Just is there a point on planning for a future when nothing ever goes as planned? Be there for whatever happens sure but why plan for anything? Especially in this economy.
Plural inside jokes are THE MOST inside a joke can get, I think
a list of things that have been mentioned in the simply plural discord server before the temporary lockdown last night:
any of the subscriptions (simply plus, patreon) money went to servers, because saving this much information from this amount of users is expensive.
amaryllis has not made any money from this app and has stated so multiple times.
money is not a reason for it being shutdown. time is. the dev wants to use their free time for family and friends - which a hiatus wouldn't fulfill.
the issue isn't just about developing the app, but also handling all the maintenance outside of it like emails and support, keeping up the servers.
an app announcement is planned. no, you're not supposed to find out through random means - they're working on it.
the app can't be sold or change devs due to legal reasons (do not ask me about which laws) as well as privacy concerns.
hiring devs costs money. hiring volunteers has privacy concerns - there's little trust in having random people get access to half a million users data. and managing people / employees is also time consuming - time that apparyllis does not have.
the possibility of it becoming open source / self hosted are currently being discussed, which offers the possibility of not loosing your hard work
the moderators had to clarify multiple times that they understand concerns regarding octocon - but they're not in a position to do anything. it is simply an alternative that you can either use or not.
amaryllis' opinion won't change. they're set on sunsetting simply plural.
reminder, that you're allowed to feel sad, upset and distressed about this - but coming up with conspiracy theories, insulting the dev or harassing the mods of the discord server is not a good look.
"im probably faking being a system" mfs after their name and gender/identity continues being unstable no matter how much they ignore it (im mfs)
So long as i dont update my tumblr on my phone, I dont have that fuck ass update
Thank you for reminding us to turn off automatic updates
I usually just let smarter people talk about Tumblr's site meta and current events, but speaking as someone who does post my stupid little scribbles here, I don't think the Tumblr update is bad because it's "taking notes away from artists": it's bad because it makes the website more insular. I don't give a shit about my notes count, but I do care about the community aspect. I like seeing what people say in reblogs and tags. Say what you want about the modern Internet favoring aggregate accounts and content mills, I just want to engage with other people. And the update makes it harder to see what people have to say further in the chain when they're doing the normal Tumblr thing of reblogging another person's addition to add their own commentary. Tumblr is good because if I make an original post, I get to see all of the tags and additions. I get to continuously engage in the conversation as people add new things. If someone has a question about something three reblog comments down, I can answer it. Not anymore, apparently.
The collaborative nature of Tumblr is what makes it stand out among other websites. Puts the "social" in "social media", hear?
"you should be at the club" i should be in the woods. performing the ritual.
there is a little hope left inside of me and i’m gonna hold onto it like my life depends on itÂ
the older i get the more it's terrifying to me how much child surveillance is normalized. scared for your child's mental health? here's more tools that will make them feel even more watched at all times. child is experimenting with their gender identity while away from you? we made it this other adult's job to surveil them for you. kid is "enjoying" their "free time" instead of doing homework? we've put parental controls on the things that they like so that you can monitor their private time. like can we fucking stop
it took me until 24 to realize that my parents don't deserve to just waltz into my room while i'm asleep and that me thinking this was fucking terrifying behavior wasn't actually unreasonable at all
unrestricted internet access is good for children because the alternative is that their parents are fucking inescapable. surveilling your child is abuse.
